  1. I should probably keep my underware offer quiet then... you know though... spandex thongs used to be ALL the rage!! []
  2. Like the little people in the "Caves of Ankanasum" thread? (I'm sure I butchered the spelling) []
  3. Send it to Terry DeWick http://mcintoshaudio.com/dewick_repairs.htm He IS the McIntosh man! Nice guy to boot and many many people say, charges WAY to little for what he does. He's an authroized McIntosh service center. My understanding is, he won't "tweek" things to flavor their sound, he will put them back to McIntosh's specs. Probably not fair of me to put words into his mouth but I DO think he said something of that flavor to me once (when speaking of my MC-30's)
  4. I'd like to second the spotlight on Larry as it seems I've got a K55 on it's way to me. As a lark, a while back I did a search on my name for my earlier posts. Seems my very first post made some kind of comment about the joy of finding this place and more importantly, others with the same appreciation I had. I think I said something about finding either long lost family, or brothers or something like that. It really was a very warm feeling for me to FINALLY in my life, be able to talk/visit with someone else who "gets it" about these monster boxes as no one in my lifes journey thus far, was remotely familiar with them. Acts like Larry's just reinforce that warm feeling to me. As for me, all I did was send some 27 year old crossovers out that had more crust on them than Duck Alfredo. Too bad I'm not one of the crossover voo-doo guys or I would have touched them up a bit. []
  5. C'mon over to Knoxville and you can hear the MC-2102 and the Jubes!! Just be prepared to go home & explain to the wife why the Khorns gotta go []
  6. I agree with Tom. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee don't ever have gasoline anywhere NEAR the fire. I can't find my pics here at home (I know I have them at work). I started a "bonfire" about 100 times larger than that from a slash pile some loggers created. Thing was probably over 100' long, 50' wide and maybe 30' tall at it's peak. I started it with less than 2 gallons of diesel fuel AND didn't start it until a day when we had rain the ENTIRE night before and the morning OF the fire. crud...where is that pic...My fire was so big at it's peak, people across the lake called the fire department telling them "my side" of the lake was on fire!! About 3:00 in the morning (as in 3:00 A.M.), I was sitting there, keeping warm because of the flames when I saw a light bouncing towards me. Was the Sheriff. He looked at me and said "what you up to". I thought that was a pretty stupid question, so I said, "I'm burning". "you know if you're going to burn, you have to BE HERE, until the fire is out????" he asked with a bit of redneck "boy" unspoken afterwards. Unbeliveing what I was hearing, I said "Well, it IS 3:00 and I'm here, aren't I?" "How you going to put it out" he asked (which I thought was another STUPID question, seeing as I had to START it to have it going?) "well...... uh... seeing as I DO have a fire permit, it DID rain all day today, I DO have my cellphone with me, I ALSO have my full sized (industrial) backhoe with me, Oh, and ALSO, the fire department was out LAST week with their bulldozer, PREPPING this fire FOR me, I uh... think I'm probably ok??" With that, he said "have a nice evening" About 10 minutes after HE left, I then went home & went to bed. [6] Anyways, I put diesel in a garden type, pressure can so I can soak a spot, light it and then from a distance, put a spray down to it and "walk" the flames around if/as needed. I (as well as everyone else I'm sure) MUCH prefer to see/harass the Dtel's at the next opportunity, rather than talking about how nice anyone 'was'. Christy... lay the law on them!!! You want toasted marshmellows, NOT toasted Dtels!! Sorry if I misunderstood any facts and over reacted. I just take safety about as serious as anything and using gasoline.....[N]
  7. I don't want this to sound like I'm disrespecting McIntosh. You might also check into trying to listen to an OTL amp. I had some Khorns hooked up to a Transcendent SE-OTL amp and found the sound GLORIOUS. I kept the SE-OTL amps over the Wright 2A3 amps I had. The only thing I ended up not liking about the SE-OTL amps was for me, they were TOO frustrating since they only had 4 wpc (I had 2 mono's bridged). The sound was probably the best "most real" I'd ever heard and I craved more. Unfortunately, at 4 wpc, they couln't provide me what I needed and I sold them too. I had with them, some McIntosh MC-30's and also a McIntosh MC-2102. I'd STILL say the SE-OTL's sounded the best "within their range". Since I really listen to stuff more loud, the OTL's were out. I might look into Transcendent's larger OTL amp later in the year for fun. If I like it enough, I'll probably keep it over the MC-2102 (which I think is probably the most beautiful amp in the world). All this stuff was hooked up to a garden variety Sony CDP and a Peach (tubed) preamp. Although I don't think you'll go wrong AT ALL with McIntosh, there might be some other alternatives that will compete on the sound front, and be (perhaps) a less expensive alternative. You anywhere near Knoxville? []
  8. We're probably heading into a terratory of "too much infomation" [A]
  9. Oscar, now that this is evidently behind you, I hope you'll pardon my laughing during your tale there. That really sounds like someone had to TRY to be so inept. I woudn't wish anything bad like that on anyone (though I might wish Oldbuckster to have to spend a full day hanging out with Hillary [6] ) Most of my issues seem to be behind me now. I had the dehumidifyer running most all day yesterday and that helped dry out the whole room/closets. Perhaps a silver lining is this "allowed" me a chance to also clean the room up. I had a place where I had my pile of tools (most soaked). Mixed in with this pile was an old cardboard box that USE to hold various things, until it finally collapsed. Additionally, there were construction remnants all over the floor (drywall pieces, nails, screws...) Now I've got all the tools back in a NEW box and all the other 'trash' which needed cleaned up, cleaned up!! The guy doing the shower tile came by yesterday & decided it would be better to allow it to get completely dry before he went on to stage two. so, after this fiasco, I got to watch my Bengals go from feral cats to... well... I guess baby kittens []. Tis amazing how they've been able to be so "bungals" for so many years.
  10. Don't know if he can help on a tweeter or not, but you might call Terry DeWick http://mcintoshaudio.com/dewick_repairs.htm He's an authorized McIntosh repair center & a straight shooter. I don't know if he's ever heard an Ionovac but that's probably a different issue []
  11. I typically wake up anytime after 5:00 a.m. (without alarm) every morning. Last night, wife & I went out for dinner & mosey'd around one of the "local" malls (25 miles away). Got home late, got the dogs outside for their last chance about 11:30 or so. Was heading to bed at midnight which is a bit late for me. no problem as I was thinking I could sleep in today (perhaps until 6:00?). Usually in the mornings, the dogs start to jump all over me in their playful way. They NEVER bother Marion in the mornings as they know she's not the one who'll take them out early and feed them. As it was, since they were out late last night, they too were kind of sleepy this morning and bottom line, we didn't get up until about 8:30. yes I was awake but I was playing with them and watching some show on the science channel or something. Finally get up to take them outside, get downstairs and I hear something strange. I hear "splashing". As there is nothing downstairs to splash, I became curious and paused on taking the dogs out. To cut to the chase... we're fixing up the basement and currently working on the bathroom/laundry room. This is going to be a fancy room (ask JC & Mark about the Cherubs in our 1/2 bath). Anyways, this is going to be a fancy room and as I walk in, the splashing sound is stronger. The entire floor is flooded. I might add that just yesterday, a guy came out to lay the first layer of concrete flooring for our walk in shower. hmm. Seems some stupid oaf (that would be ME) pushed the washing machine back into its closet to gain some floor space while we keep adjusting things in there to work around them. Moving it back gave some slack to its drain hose. Last night at midnight Marion did a load of laundry. As it was heading into its final rinse cycle, seems the water jetting out of the hose, dislodged it from its drain and the hose was laying on the ground, pouring all the water out. Since the water level never rose to 'full' and have the machine cut the supply OFF, it was in effect, pumping water out all night from sometime after midnight, until 8:30. Yeesh... I got the dogs outside, woke Marion and spent the next several hours moving things out of their, including a soaked rug that fortunately, acted like a HUGE sponge for most of the water. This rug was destine to be burned anyway, so I'm not concerned about keeping it. Got stuff picked up, moved doors out, durrock out, drywall out. Other pieces of drywall have wicked water up to about 3 inches off the floor. I've thrown away my Paxton 'box' fan. It was a real tornado, but it fell and didn't work. No one had a fan to borrow. Fortunately, I had a big shop vac and pulled some water up but honestly, 90% of the water left when I LUGGED that rug outside (something like 9'x12' and SOAKED). Hand dried most of the floor and pulled my dehumidifyer out to simply get some dry air moving around in there. Wife use to ask me why I was so let down that we didn't have a floor drain in this room (she thought it would be ugly). I think she now has a clue. [] As an aside, the Jubilees are destined for the room next to this, water DID get into the larger room. My LaScalas are currently IN the larger room but no water got near them. Rug = soaked/toast Particleboard cabinet = soaked/toast 3" drywall at base of floor = soaked/perhaps toast LaScalas = high & dry [H]
  12. I don't know their exact size... perhaps three feet wide by four feet tall? (bass bin only). The bass bin is essentially the same height as the Khorn bin as I understand it. Two people can comfortably carry a pair of Jubilees around (after taking the top horn off). The bottom end isn't THAT heavy but needs two people. The HF horn can be carried easily by one person but it's kind of awkward given its shape and the driver hanging out on the back only makes it more weird to carry. My guess is combined, (LF horn & HF horn) they might be 150 lbs?? but that's only a guess
  13. [:$] I'm glad they will fit the bill. Given the box they came in, I wonder if they still smell a bit like ham? [*-)]
  14. I'm open to any bidding wars if they want to put them in the place, of the highest bidder!! [6]
  15. Oh, probably not capable at all []. Just speaking from a "seat of the pants" perspective though... I'd always wanted a sub with my LaScalas and then Khorns. The Jubilees have freed me from that want altogether!. Can it get better than them (Jubilees)? yes, sure. I just wonder if it's worth the additional expense (to me) to get the incremental gain from a sub... (answer is currently no) Trust me Ear... c'mon down & give em a test drive. I'll supply the Classic Cokes!! []
  16. As an aside, the file was from the Big Phat Band cd that I was going to try to share with someone. I might suggest again that ANYONE who likes BIG SOUND out of their Heritage, to try these cd's. I bought them on a whim (from someones recommendation) and think they are possibly THE best sounding cd's I have to play on the Jubes. Music is good and VERY good recordings!!
  17. Just got home and it was bounced back to me. Either your carrier bounced it or (more likely?) my bellsouth disallowed it? Either way, thanks for trying. I guess I'll just re-rip it at a lower rate and try again next week. []
  18. In process as I type, of sending it now. Thanks! Smaller is better, I'm aware it will lose some quality, but I'm more for small size than quality right now. []
  19. I understand knocking it down might/will make it sound worse. That tradeoff is acceptable though because the flip side is, they can hear a crappy version or nothing. I think if they heard even a crappy version, they'd have a clue if they liked the music.
  20. I've got something I tried to email to someone. Turns out it's 13 megs in size and got bounced. Short of driving home, getting my cd, driving back, re-ripping... Is there something on MOST PC's that would allow me to make a copy and lower the bit rate? I've got Media player on mine but if it's able to do it, I can't figure out how. It's currently ripped at what seems to be 320 kbps? and I'd like to make the 13 mb file 2 or 3 mb's if possible.
  21. It MIGHT be a setup [6]. I've been batting around the idea of taking the Jubes or not... if not, then no setup, if they DID go, a second person with a strong back would certainly be an asset to have around!! How cool would that be for him too... get to spend the trip with those babies? I was talking to Mike earlier today about this very thing and I got into some of the issues why mine might NOT show up there. He made comment that he'd like people to hear them in a good listening enviroment and I agree. I told him that one of the thoughts I had was talking to Colter or IndyKlipsch and leaving them at their house. Take Indyklipsch for example, he's already got that HT room setup to perfection as I understand it... how tough would it be to drag 2 LaScalas OUT of there and slap these in their place? Then, they'd be in a home environment the entire time where people could get a real "seat of the pants' feel for their sound, as contrasted with perhaps a room like we heard while in Hope? I don't know how far they live from HQ though. I would guess that people that had an interest in the Jubilee, would not mind the drive if it meant a chance to hear them in a good environment. (kinda nice of me to volunteer this onto Colter or IndyKlipsch huh?!!!!) [A]
  22. You know, they DO say something about watching out for "the quiet ones"?? [6] I don't think you heard Mike speak too much about them either?? I know I didn't until we were in the car together and that was one of the focuses of the conversation. I anticipate being there. I am CASUALLY debating if/how to drag the Jubilees up also, but don't get into any breath holding. Doing that has other issues involved that I am (both) not setup to deal with or not too interested in dealing with.
  23. You just want me to go to the audiologist and have him fill my ears with some kind of liquid plastic... Are you conspiring with my wife? []
  24. Sooooooooooooo, does anyone here want to buy some Jubilees and forget all together, about subs? [][:#]
