  1. I second the thoughts on the KT-90's. I'm not much of a technician, but I was told they'd swap out in the Jolida I had. I tried them and they definately gave more bite to the bottom end. I kind of wish I'd kept them when I sold the amp but I included everything with it.
  2. Careful Tonto [], (and I'm just funning with ya), but I've had mine for 27 years (and I'm 46), so it's been almost 60% of my life ! Additionally, I didn't have the luxury of living in a cool place like Hope to know about Klipsch until I was 18. I had to discover Klipsch all by my itty bitty self (tweety bird impersonation) when I saw these cool boxes at a dealer and had the wisdom to ask "what are THOSE!!!" [] Ok, enough of my bantering... you say there's a lot of history. I'd guess it would interest more than one here to hear of some of your stories??!! I liked Hope, thought it was a charming town. Even more given the history of Klipsch there. Maybe you can give us some dirt on Trey, even if you need to make it up? []
  3. I've always wondered if someone like Roy (or PWK in his day) can hear one of these raw bass bins and, know right off the bat if it's at least in the ballpark. I was amazed to find out how much the raw bass bin sucks in its sound, without any HF support. []
  4. Oh, and for HT bass... You gotta realize I've NEVER had a sub. Part of my reality would then be ignorance is bliss []. When I had the LaScalas, I always wanted to get a sub but never quite found the timing to do it. Today, I don't even have the interest (because of their capabilities). I once asked, how much is enough or something like that. Meaning, if I did add a sub and it added "15%" more to my system (just made it up ya know), then is it really worth it price/electronics/wiring wise, to go through all that for the 15%? If it added 90% I'd say an easy yes. As it is, for me, I'm really nothing short of tickled with the sound I have (which btw, isn't really a HT setup, just stereo going through my DTV box) My HT stuff is sitting idle in storage.
  5. *So scan and post Jubi boy* Would if I could [] Our scanner has bitten the dust and I've tried a number of times over the years, to get it working...finally gave up
  6. Can HE perhaps tell us, if the plane will take off? [6]
  7. I don't have a projector but I've got my speakers hooked into cd/dvd/tv and use it for all (not always for tv though). They really add some oomph when you've got a movie on, even without a sub. Nice pic in avatar [], I was once thinking about taking a shot of just the K402, looking down its throat. Hmm, that reminds me, anyone recall seeing Alan Parson's "Gaudi" cover art? There is a picture taken, looking down the spiral staircase in Barcelona, Spain. Don't recall the year that lp/cd came out (I think I bought it about 1985?) However, what I found interesting is, I was in the same cathedral in Barcelona in about 1994 and took the SAME exact shot, although I was in the other stairwell as my picture rotates opposite the album cover did. None the less, when I was walking down the spire, I thought "This might take an intersting picture". I was pleased to see the same logic make the cover shot of that album later on.
  8. Mark, I know he didn't mention need of the horns (probably oversight). If he in fact does NOT need them, I'd be interested in one of them for my empty LaScala cabinet (it too, needs a 400/401, K55 & perhaps tweeter, though I might use my 2404) I've been too "busy" (read that to mean lazy & cheap) to call Klipsch parts yet. [] Edit: I only need a single 400/401 & K55
  9. Having swapped out my networks to Al's ES networks on my LaScalas, I should have 2 "AA" crossovers if you'd like them. I should say first, they are BONE stock, circa 1979. They might need a touch of TLC before proper use (though they sounded fine when I used them last summer) If you'd like them though, I don't really ever see my self using them and suspect they'd just be laying around for a long time before I finally toss them in the round file. Lemme know
  10. Nice job & nice looking! Question for you (or D'man??) The top hatch is presumably going to be drilled & screwed down. Would it be possible to (when making the initial cuts) cut the lid with a 45 degree angle and the two sides with a matching 45 degree angle and then SLIDE the hatch on like a wedge? Just wondering if you could do that & hide any screw holes. I figure if the wood is in plywood then it might be possible. If it's in MDF, I don't think it would hold up over time. Just curious, I know that would cause some issues with cutting the angles and having them mate up nice & tight without being TOO tight.
  11. My take is, he has filled out their questionaire (valued at $40.00) and it's suggesting to him that his best mate is an accoustimass based system? [6]
  12. I say send it back. Maybe Klipsch will prefer to send a service technician out to fix it? Would Roy be able to get through airport security and/or customs with a black magic marker in his shirt pocket?
  13. Houston... the Eagle has landed!
  14. I like this part.. *Separate, single, 12-inch, Tractrix® Horn-loaded mid-bass device mid bass "device"?? [8-)] What exactly, is a "mid-bass device"? [:^)] [:^)] [:^)] [:^)]
  15. Just an idea... sell your Khorns, acquire some Jubilees. Better bass from the Jubilee right off the bat, enclosed back/sides (like this topic) and of course, the huge 402 horn on top. With the K402 horn, I think that alone would greatly widen your sweetspot (did for me). Jubilees are only 12 - 18" taller than the Khorns so other than the visual intimidation of the K402 staring at you, it's not REALLY that large of a jump to them. I'll bet you didn't know I'd be of the above opinion? []
  16. How many miles of caulk would it take to rope up a K-402? []
  17. Seems Amy might need to apply some Tide with bleach, to this thread [] Called parts and new motor is $123 AND in stock!
  18. Perhaps once (if) that happens, they'll all make a rush to sell their Khorns and kill the market [] We'll be able to buy Khorns for $500!! [6]
  19. I didn't really expect any comments!! Your comments there about opening door, holding switch, give drum a spin happened to be exactly what I did and I was able to start it. It died though after about 15 minutes. It started later when I repeated the process. I took everything apart and see where the motor won't be so hard to get to after all. I'm going to contact Sears tomorrow & see how much a new motor is for it. Although it's nicked up (and I could care less about that), I figure if I can get it running cheaply enough, I'd just as soon do that than buy a new one. Buckette, I DO like your idea of hanging the laundry in front of the Jubilees and simply air drying everything!! Do you think if I had the Stones on, it would cause any wrinkles in the clothes? []
  20. Seems my dryer is dying. Actually, it's about 1 step from dead and I need a new one. I have a Lady Kenmore and owned it about 10/12 years. I'm not concerned about brand as long as it's a good one. I don't mind paying for quality. One stipulation is, I GOTTA have a side (vent) discharge. the washer is fine so my preference is to buy just the dryer instead of a set. Anyone have any good stories verses horror stories of what to steer away from?
  21. Did some more asking around and I'm now 100% sure of it. As for the 60th Anniv, didn't Trey say that they might (or were?) going to make that available to the U.S., that there were some dealers crying foul??
  22. I had a pair of Khorns. The biggest single change I got from their sound was when I sat a JBL 2404 tweeter on top of them. I was going to do Al K's "trachorn" upgrade. You can look here http://alkeng.com/ on the left click on Klipsch upgrades, then I belive, squawker horn upgrades. I ended up selling the Khorns before I got to the Trachorns so I can't give a first person report. There are others here who speak glowingly of that change. It's also essentially a drop in change so your Khorns won't change their appearance. You would use your current K55 on the back of the horn so you wouldn't need to replace that.
  23. LONGEST weekend of your life lol!! They came to us on pallets, but only had shrink wrap as I recall (attaching them TO said pallet). We were able to cut the wrap WHILE on the truck and simply remove the boxes from the pallets. I'd be sure you have ONE able bodied person with you and you should be fine. Took us two people PER box to effectively carry them. The HF horn could be done by one person, but it was somewhat a cumbersome box to carry, given its size. Once we got the actual cabinet out of the box, I think we found it easier to carry as you could grab the mouth lips. And please don't let your wife hear you talking to someone over the phone about grabbing the mouth lips.... []
  24. Yes Fritzie, I've got one of the transformers. It's that exact thing that I'm trying to keep away from (extra cord, more wires laying around) Unfortunately, they need to be powered and I never thought of that. On a side note, I WILL say that I found the boost in signal kind of interesting. I haven't listened to it enough to conclude if it's just the same as cranking my bass bins up by say 6 db's or if that extra boost, simply makes everything work better. (does that make sense?) The speakers seemed to have more 'punch' to them when I was using it but it could have simply been a result of me not calibrating the HF/LF horns together. I might have ended up with the HF horn attenuated too much relative to the LF horn.
