  1. OB, Glad you and that Scott are warming up to each other. I got excited for you just reading your posts, heck you were not even grumppy at all. I hope this does not soften you up too much, we still need our No. 1 butt kicker around here. To those who got this set up, and followed through to compleation [Y][Y][Y] Now that you have discovered the center channel, you will have to hunt yourself down a third H2 to stick in there. I bet Speaker Fritz has 4 or 5 laying around somewhere, or you could get his LS's and use a H2 for a center[] I think your music selection is absolutely the best. You better hope I don't ever end up in your neck of the woods because I will be a poundin' on your door to check out some tunes. I hope you continue to get a great sense of pleasure from your Scott. Travis Travis - The center output on a 299 (a and is unpowered which is why a powered sub like the RSW-12 I sometimes use with my 299b works so well. To add another heresy, you'd need to run another amp to the center out RCA jack. The 299C and D have powered center ouputs which allow a derrived center channel with no additional amp. OB - Glad you're enjoying the Scott. It was my first tube amp also and I still use it with my Cornwalls. The sound is flat out stunning. I never owned a Scott, and that makes sense that it would be unpowered. Now, back then, what would have been the purpose of having an unpowered center channel? I have read posts on here, and elsewhere, there was a move afoot to go from stereo to 3 channel, studios were recording in 3 channel, etc. What was the purpose of this feature? Travis
  2. I think that's BS. Maybe in theory it's true but I have some LPs that have been played 100 times and still sound as good as the day I brought them home..........used in many cases! I suppose if they're played a million times they'll eventually wear out. I'd probably be sick of it by then anyway.[] If an LP is well cared for and your table is properly set up and you clean your stylus on a regular basis, an album should last a VERY long time. It's not like a tootsie pop.[] (As an Old Timer, I assume you remember that commercial?) Gary, Are you using, or have you used, Last Record Preservative? (This is a serious question) Travis

  4. Pauln, Naw you aint losing it. But I will say this, you would fit in perfect with us R2R guys. Not only can you feel the tension from wondering if the vinyl is all the way up to par, you can also fret about whether you are getting the upmost recording quality. On top of that, you can replay the tape and re-live the experience all over again. I have a real cherry Rt-1011 that I would make you one heck of a deal on.[] Travis
  5. Are these the ones that William just sold that I missed out on by one day? I am going to puke. Travis Or better yet, get those 60th anniversary Khorns that are so pretty, or even better than that get yourself a pair of JUBS. YOU DESERVE IT with all the [bs] you put up with from your clients. This thought has been resonating with me for the last couple of days. I just sent Trey an email about it. Thanks a lot for getting me off track[]
  6. That's funny, I was sitting in a bar the other day and in walked a penguin, a frog and a duck . . . and the penguin said the same thing about her.[] The duck said only SET for him and the frog was SS. We started talking about the atributes of vinyl vs. CD but the penguin got em all thrown out before we got that far. Travis
  7. Can I ask why you did this? Did I miss something? Mike Mike, It has been the topic of discussion in my "WTB Cornwalls" thread located here http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/884101.aspx Mark asked the same question, and I tried to explain with a photo that it is more a function of the room, HT is on short wall, 2 channel is on long wall, this requires the movement of furniture and one KSP-400 HT speaker to go from one to the other. I was just thinking though, the 60th Anniv. Ed Khorns have sealed backs that, essentially, act as a false corner? If they do not require a false corner, and depending on the the size (there is an issue about the size interfering with the entryway) I might be able to go with those. So I am going to continue with the CW possibility but if 60th Khorns will work with their sealed backs I might start trying to beg borrow or STEAL a pair from Klipsch somehow some way. Travis
  8. Wow, here is 1000 posts, and it is to toot my own horn[D][^][<)][<)] GET IT, TOOT, HORN ? ? ? (Who looks at that post count anyway? Obviously I do). So here is a photo of some folks facing the long wall. Towards the the back right, where the two gentlemen are standing, is that alcove area that I mentioned where people enter the room. The right speaker would be going under that sconse light to the left of the picture hanging on the wall. There is no corner there, obviously, and if I did a false wall it would leave too narrow a path (at least per my wife's tastes) for people to enter the room. The exact center of the listening area for the long wall is under the sconse light where the gentlemen in the aqua blue shirt is sitting (with hand up to mouth) Those are electric recline leather theater seats that I have moved up facing the long wall. When it came time to watch a movie, I would have to move those chairs 90 degrees clockwise, centered on the short wall. So that there is the situation, I have heard suggestions from everything from putting the chairs on tracks that they can slide from one position to the other (good god) to getting an L sectional that went bothways. However, about the only suggestion I got from guys who were married and knew the realities of having to get something at least half way acceptable to No. 1 was: get rid of the Khorns and try Cornwalls up front or Reference Series. Travis
  9. Mark, It was easy to miss, kind of obscure from a couple of different posts. Nervertheless an excellent question if you did not know the whole story. My media room is 22 by 16 with an alcove entrance. The home theater screen is on the short wall. There is only one useful corner on left side of the screen, and I cannot do a false corner on the right because it would extend too far into the alcove area where you walk into the room. That left the long wall for the corners. I just got tired of moving the furniture from being oriented towards the long wall for 2 channel and the short wall for HT. The HT speakers are KSP 400's, matching center and rear surrounds, so I would also have to move the left KSP 400 in front of the Khorn to listen to HT, and then move it out of the way for 2 Channel. So the Khorns go and the hunt for a single set of fronts, to be used for both 2 channel and HT is on. I am going to go with Cornwalls first and see if they will do for my tastes, I could also probably put in a pair of RF-7's up front at the same time to try just for giggles. If I like the CW's then I will go get rid of the KSP's and go with matching rear CW's. I originally had LS's up front, sold them when I got the Khorns. I knew when I bought the Khorns that I would not be keeping them. It just was not goling to work with my room layout. I bought them because I was having a Klipsch gathering at my house and they happend to come up for sale 2 weeks before right here in Austin so I went ahead and bought them for the Gathering and then knew that I would sell them at some point when I got tired of moving furniture. I think I have a photo of folks listening to them at the gathering which I will post, it might show the HT screen in the background so you will have a better idea. So to answer your question, I'M TIRED OF MOVING FURNITURE. To answer the question that is "between the lines": The reason I am moving down the spectrum is purely one of logistics. Am I afraid that I will not be satisfied with the sound of the CW's after having had Khorns for the last 10 months? Absolutely. I am scared it is going to put me off into a different direction entirely, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Travis

  11. Got an email from the seller of the CWIII's, he relisted them because of a fradulent buyer. The new listing number is 220091687915 and the link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D220091687915%26fvi%3D1&item=220091687915&rd=1 They are listed with a starting price of $2,000 and a buy it now of $2,600. It is a 21 hour drive (EACH WAY) for me to get these and Gilbert is only an 8 hour drive for me, so I am going to officialy bow out of this deal. BS Button, you can jump in the fray with all of the other Ebayer's on this one. I think if you offered him 2400 right away he would take it and cancel the auction, at least that is what he was willing to do for me. The whole thing initially made me ill, they were an hour away, undamaged, and offered on the forum before Audiogon for 2500. The one time I am away from the forum for a couple of days is when he listed them on the forum. Isaw then on Audiogon, mentioned them here and someone pointed out that they had been listed here. So I lost out. But everything happens for a reason, and now I have a great offer from Gilbert, only an 8 hour drive, if I really like them I can move those to the rear and purchase brand new CW3's, maybe even cruise over to do some gambling in MS and then swing over the Dtels for a listen before making a final decision. So I have found my CW's, at least my first pair, and you all can have at these CWIII's. Travis
  12. 22" -- as I tried to say (not very clearly) above. What I also tried to say is that you're not automatically home free at 22", because the side slopes away at a 45-deg. angle beyond that. So, a window sill that extends 2"-3" into the room will still interfere if it's too close, e.g., only 24" from the corner. Larry Ludovico, Larry is exactly right, it is 22" that is the first measurement you need to deal with. Then the next thing is you need to know where the molding (if any) starts from the corner, and how far it sticks out from the wall. As I mentioned, even though I had room between the edge of the speaker and the window, I still had to file off the corner of each molding to fit the speakers into the corner. Currently, the corner of the molding fits right up against the grill cloth of the bass bin portion of the speaker. Travis
  13. Ludovico: I am an "expert" about the diminsions in terms of corners and windows. As you can see from the photo below, my lett speaker had a window to both the left and the right. I had to file down a corner of the molding on each window to get them in place so I can tell you the exact diminsions you will have to contend with. I have blinds, and with the blinds closed (down) you cannot tell any difference in the bass, with a solid wall. With the blinds up there is a bit of a suckout and the bass drops a bit. If you shoot me an email I will be happy to send you the exact diminsions. I will also post them on here at the same time. Travis
  14. Jay, Excellent topic. I use the Producer's Cut of Hi Fi test record AND the Acoustic Sounds Test record. The old Hi Fi Test record, which I have, had usless antiskating test tracks. I think that I recently read on this forum, or it may have been somewhere else, that the original Hi Fi test reccord lead to many folks having improper antiskating/bias adjustment. I think all of those problems were resolved with the producers cut. Travis
  15. Congratulations on the purchase. I am on the same hunt as you right now, I just sold my Khorns and am looking to replace them with Cornwalls. I think my pickup with be 8 hours each way, but the condition of the ones I am getting I will not have to really do anything to them at all. Do you have any photos yet? Travis
  16. The seller of those Cornwall 3's must be cursed. First he buys nearly new CWIII's only to have them arrived damaged by the shipper. He lists them on Audiogon, and I guess does not get much response so he lists them on Ebay at $2,000 which is what I offered him, with a BIN of 2,600.00 Someone does the BIN of 2,600 but he has a feedback of negative 2 with feedback saying the account is fraudulent. This poor guy can't win. Here is the listing if anyone is interesed. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220091295277&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1 I wrote him again and asked him to let me know if they are relisted. To my long necked friend: I hope you were serious about that offer, it is looking more and more like I will be driving to Tulsa to p/u a pair of CWII's. Travis
  17. I got an email from the seller of those cornwalls and he advised me that he has them listed on ebay. So I don't know what to make of it at this point, I am sure he will get some buyer somewhere to jump on them for 2600 or whatever his BIN is. Travis
  18. You have a pm, send me your email so I can give you the whole scoop
  19. One looks like it is almost an inch long, but very narrow ... almost lke a scrape. The other looks like it is was smashed but it is very small. Looks like the MDF underneath was damaged in a bigger area. I can't really tell. Travis
  20. I admit to being a cornwall glutant, and at current, have one more pair than I can use. I won't make it back down to Laredo, Texas until the Xmas holidays, so if you decided to go with one of mine and want them before the holidays, then shipping fee's will apply. Otherwise, I will deliver to your doorstep. Condition is unquestionably good, I don't buy garbage. What flavor are you looking for, Oak, Cherry, WalNut? Cotton or Cane? Most with risers. I have a few, but beware, at $1100 for either CII's or ALK'ed Vert's, I'm not exactly in a hurry to sell them, and I'm not letting them go cheap or for a loss. I assure you I'm not selling them for a profit either. I rarely offer any of my stuff to anyone, but if YOU sir are interested, I have a pair for you. Gilbert, That is really an incredibly kind offer and one that I will probably take you up on depending on how things sort out. I think I would probably drive up there and get them and maybe see Oldtimer and/or Seadogs set up or one of our other DFW friends on the way up or the way back. I am taking a look at the Cornwall III's that are on Audiogon that were damaged. He says that he just paid $2,700 for them, I didn't think William had them that high on the Audiogon ad, but maybe he did. He sent me two more photos closer up of the damage. He says you can't really see it because it is towards the back. When I blow up the photos you can see that the damage goes right into the MDF, and I don't think there is anyway to fix these. We are still $400 apart, but if I know that I have a nice pair available up in Broken Arrow I think I would stand a bit firmer and see what happens with him. If I end up getting CW's from you and really enjoying them, I can order a pair of CW III's and use a pair for rears. Your offer really leaves a lot of options open for me, the best of which is that I know that I don't have to jump on these beater CW3's. My preference would be Cherry or Walnut, I have never been a big fan of cane, I know that risers are supposed to really improve the sound, and I have never heard the difference between the Vert and Horz. cornwall so I would need to do a little homework to try and determine what is what. Gilbert, Thanks again for your offer, I really appreciate you willing to part with a set. Travis
  21. As a matter of fact, Yes. Brown Penny by William Butler Yates. St. Patricks is a week away. Or another one of my favorites, by Dylan Thomas: Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Travis
  22. Thanks for keeping an eye out in the north country. My first choice would be WO or anything exotic, the newer the better. I am not looking for a steal, I will pay ebay prices if need be. Travis
  23. Well now that I have sold my Khorns, I need to start working on Cornwalls. If anyone is thinking about selling a pair, or if you see a pair for sale in Texas or surrounding states I sure would appreciate hearing about it. Depending on what, if anything is available, I might be considering CWIII's from the factory so I can be cool like Dtel and Detel's wife. Thanks in advance for your help. Travis
  24. My Khorns with the new DeanG crossovers have been officially sold. Shinerman from Amarillo (I cant get Jerry Jeff Walker out of my head now) is going to come and pick them up weekend after next. Thanks to everyone who expressed an interest, and those who posted with there comments. Travis
