  1. Great looking stand Allan, unfortunatley, I have no welding skills what-so-ever. Additionally, I would probably end up burning the entire house down. Travis
  2. I loved looking at everyone's 2 Channel Setups in the thread that is still going strong and it got me to thinking about a couple of things: No Disc, I have been thinking about having my cabinet maker doing a custom cabinet what is similar to the one you have your TT on along, where did you get yours, if you had it made do you have any suggestions or something you would have done differently, what isolation platform do you have under your TT and are you happy with it, what on earth are all of those brass harmonic dampeners you have everywhere, or are those dampers? Doctorcilantro has a wall mounted platform which I have been strongly considering, I don't have wood floors but my A/V room is up stairs and movement on the floors seems to transfer across the whole room. Doc, which mount do you have, where did you get it, what isolation platform are you using with it, what did you pay, happy with it? Shapeshifter, you have an isolation platform under your TT which I noticed is every close to your K-Horn. I was wondering which platform you use and does it work even at mid/high volume being so close to the right speaker. 3dZapper, what A/V racks are those, did you fill with lead or sand, are you happy with those for that beautiful Bellagio? Guy Landau: Nice looking rack, the shelves look adjustable. What brand is it, where did you get it, pay, etc.? Same questions for Codhead's rack, if you know. I would love to hear from anyone about a turntable racks they have been happy with, or isolation platforms that have worked well, and of course, anything that they found not to have worked or worth the money. Thanks to crazytubepower for starting a great thread and stiring my imagination and curiosity. Thanks in advance for your responses to the above questions. Travis Austin, Texas
  3. Kev, What isolation platform do you have under your turntable, and how do you like it? Travis
  4. Gary, Allen and all other vinyl lovers, Have you purchased any of the 45 RPM reissues. I have several (From Music Direct, Accoustic Sounds, etc.) and have really liked what I have heard so far. Just was wondering what your thoughts were when you had the option of getting a reissue in 33 or 45 (at usually twice the price) Travis
  5. Patrick, If you ever find a pair in on Ebay in Texas, (Austin, Dallas, Houston, etc.) let me know, I will go look at them if I can, do a local pickup for you (escrow), or anything else I can do to help you out (except sell you mine). Travis
  6. I saw this lising on ebay today, if any forum member is interested I will go and check them out for you. If you need me to pick them up for you I will do this as well until you have time to come and get them. (I have a climate controlled storage area). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3276&item=5778025237&rd=1 Let me know if I can be any help, Travis
  7. Blanton's is quite good, but I like Booker's just a tad better. Has anyone tried that new 25 year old Old Grand Dad, about $100 a bottle? Travis

B&K seems to make GREAT gear at great prices ($3300 for their 7.1 receiver, for example) Krell makes good stuff, and their name sells. Very $pendy. McIntosh is awesome, but VERY expensive and the 'hip' crowd might not like the looks (I LOVE it) ---------------- The first thing I would want to know is what converters and processor are in the Krell or B&K you are considering. The Mcintosh MX135 has a 24/192 DACS. Also the analog to digital to converter is 24/192 The MX135 is based largely upon the C-45 multi-channel pre-amp that was a runner-up for Stereophile pre/amp of the year. Lastly the MX135 is running the Motorola Aerius chip which is going at 1.2 billion instructions per second. I think that gives it the the most powerful dsp chip of any pre/pro currently on the market. That's the basics in terms of making sure that they compare in their ability to play the software. However, what's most important is how each sounds with YOUR speakers in YOUR home. I know my Mac dealer will allow me (and I am nobody special) to demo any piece of Mac equipment in my home for a week or so before I decide to purchase it. My understanding is that most Mac dealers are the same way, and that is for good reason: they know if you get it home you are never going to want to bring it back, and you are not going to want anything else. Travis Of course what really matters is
  9. Alan, Alright, at least two other Bookers fans on this forum. No I meant, 10 essential for you. If you were forced to get of everything you own, which 10/25 would be essential for YOU keep, forgetting value, collectability, i.e., based soley on the music, performance, sonics, etc. Travis
  10. Try the U.S. Dept. of Transportation website, and look under common carrier or shipments. I had to look this up for a client awhile back when he received a damaged 10,000 flat screen HDTV. My recollection is they cannot limit their liability in the fashion you described. I beleive that USDOT website tells you what a shipper can, and cannot get away with. They can be limit their liability for damage, but it is difficult if they lose the whole thing. Additionally, it was good advice not to cash the check. However, there is language you can use to endorse the check which will not limit your rights, etc. Let me know if you need help on this. Travis
  11. Allan, Happy Birthday, glad I have another bourbon drinking buddy (but you should switch to Bookers). Now that you are the ripe old age of 48 I was wondering if you could tell us all what you would consider the essential ten (or 25 if you cannot narrow it down to 10) jazz lp's anyone starting a jazz collection should own. Would also love to hear what other forum members would list as their essential 10/25. Travis

I lived right near there for twenty five years (East Texas) right now I live on Cape Cod MA. and by the time I move back to Texas this fall they will be gone, and I like the price, just my luck. ---------------- Randy, If you really, REALLY want them, let me know, I will pick them up for you and store them in my house in Austin. (I promise I won't play with them). It will be a pain, and I will have to deal with my wife for a few months, but for a fellow forum member, I will help you out if you really want them. Travis
  13. Tom, it does have all of the info entered in. You pop a cd in your computer, the program id's it, finds it on one of 6 databases on the web, downloads the info on your computer, even puts a picture of the cd/lp cover next two it. For lp, you just enter the name of the artist/lp the program finds the rest (tracks, other info.) on the web and enters it for you. You could do a 100 cd's in an hour watching tv, you just need to keep changing them. Travis

Later figured out that the source of information would have to be huge." I've been using a bar-code reader for several years to do this. I've went through various custom built programs that I made, but recently switched to the Mac app "Delicious Library". It currently hooks up to Amazon to find details on dvds, music, books. Cool little app, I scan a new dvd/cd with my wireless bluetooth bar code reader, it auto looks up the selection on amazon, downloads the cover art and all details and displays them in your library. If you have an Apple its def. worth looking into. Back to the question. Currently 1070 cds, 415 DVDs, around 100-150 lps (I dont track the LPs yet in my computer, just not enough of them) and a whole 1 SACD. ---------------- I highly reccomend Music Collector software. You can download at Collectorz.com. It will load all of the info from a CD when you put it into your computer, uses 4 different data bases to find your CD/LP has bar code reading capability, etc. I finally got everything entered because I was tired of buying lp's I already had at record shows. And it will give you an perfect count of everything in case anyone ever asks you how many cd's you have. LP's: 2,947 CD's: 1,256 SACD: 5 DVD-A 3 Pre-Recorded Reel to Reel: 87
  15. Trey, Some very nice thoughts. It reminded me to send my Dad more notes and to thank him for taking the time to share with me many of the same things your Dad shared with you. My Dad turned 74 on the 10th. It is too easy to let time pass you by and I have heard too many people say they wish they would have told a parent something, or something more often before they passed. Your sentiments gave me the motivation to make sure that my Dad has no question in his mind what I am thankful he did for me, and to not take any opportunity to get together for granted. Thanks for saying hi, Travis
  16. A great idea in theory. I am more then happy to let any of you come to my home and demo., or for that matter anyone interested in buying a similar set of speakers from any forum member. I like the thought of being able to pass on the enjoyment I have received to someone looking to get into heritage. A few email exchanges or a brief phone conversation is going to tell you if they are for real or not. If you want, you can show them one of your guns from your gun collection and say you wish they had made speakers in the same color as "this." They won't be back for any trouble. The "legal issue" is a red herring. Homeowners insurance will cover you, there is no deductable for litigation expense, and you should make sure you have plenty of medpay anyway which pays regardless of fault. There is no more or less risk then having friends over for dinner. I do join in the opinions about not wanting to do it for Klipsch and trying to keep heritage alive. It's there problem, not mine. I am happy to be altruistic for a forum member or anyone looking to buy from a forum member. For example, I think the idea would be great for Dean or Al's aftermarket crossovers. When I get around to getting mine I would be happy to offer them the option of sending any potential customer my way to listen. However, I value my time to much to do it for a company that is in the business of making speakers for a profit. There is nothing altrustic about such an endeavor. The auto analogy is a poor one. Ford is going to discontinue the T-Bird (again) this year due to a lack of sales. I don't feel a need to go buy one and offer everyone a free demo ride to try and save Ford either. Besides, if Klipsch needs me to help sell their heritage line then the line is already dead. One other thing that has been overlooked is that the forum is actually their "home demo." These forums are not here out of the kindness of Klipsh Co.'s heart. It is a display of and acess to the best kind of advertising, word of mouth. They know if someone gets on here they are going to hear how great their speakers are. It is worth the expense to them to host these forums because it's members have a wealth of knowledge and obviously believe in the product. How much do you think Klipsch saves in payroll expense for customer services reps and tech. support reps. by referring folks to their various forums. How many times have you seen a brand new person get on a forum and say "I have a question about _______ and the person at the Klipsch 800 number said I should give you a try." I say if someone is looking to get a used pair of Klipsch Heritage we do everything we can to make them a believer too. Try to give them a demo on the speakers they are interested in, answer all their questions, let them know when the next Klipsch Forum get together is and that there is always several set of speakers to listen to, etc. If they insist that they want brand new speakers, then I say we refer them to Klipsch and that little guy in Spring, Texas. IMHO Travis
  17. I have a Z series, and there is no real difference. The one for sale now has the best cosmetics I have seen in a long time, I don't think you will find one better then that. The real key is wheather it has been worked on (caps replaced, etc., and by who). If it is all original you are going to need figure in the cost of replacing those old oil filled caps. This was a great deal at $765 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=67807&item=5754915322&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW You can find MX-110's on Audiogon from time to time in near mint condition from 700 to 800, add about a $100 to $150 if it comes with the wood. Super fine choice and you won't be disapointed. Travis
  18. Thank you everyone for the great responses. I am working on a couple of different tube amps with some of the folks who replied on here. Some great suggestions and fast response. Thanks again, Travis
  19. The right channel on my Mac 2125 went out on my yesterday. I am looking for replacement AMP while I search for a pair of mint MAC tube amps. I am willing to look at just about anything, SS, PP, SET, in any price range that someone might have available right away. But would prefer SET that someone might be in the process of getting rid of since I would be able to hand onto that for another system I was going to create. I look forward to hearing from anyone that has something ready to go in good shape. Thanks Travis tcwesq@texas.net
  20. A rather paltry list in comparison to some of you: 2 Lascalas (90 or 91?) 2 Belles (1978 Factory Teak) 1 Heresy 2 KSP-400's 1 KSP C6 2 KSP RW6 2 KG-4's (1987) 2 RF-15's 4 Outdoor Klipsch
  21. That is a very good point Dodger. You will need all of that info. for a theft or fire loss. I glad you mentioned it, I always say I am going to do it, but never seem to. I have a list for my guns, but now you have given me the perfect new years resolution to accomplish while I am watching the Rose Bowl. I am going to photograph and list every item. Travis
  22. I just bought my wife a SONY 400 DVD/CD changer from BB and I went ahead and got the extended 4 year warranty for $50.00 bucks. They had mailed me a 10% off preferred customer coupon which pretty much covers the cost of the warranty. After she opens it I will tape the receipt and service contract on the bottom of the unit. I have found that after two or three years if something goes out I can't remember if I bought the warranty or not, and if I have, that I cannot locate the receipt/contract. I have had really good luck with Sony in the past and will not need to use it, but if I do I will be able to just bring the unit it with the documents attached. My wife bought an extra Aiwa DVD progressive DVD player from Sams Club for a guest room a couple of years ago. I think it was between about $200.00. It just quit the other day, won't read any type of disk. It is out of warranty, even the extended warranty my credit card offers (don't forget about that by the way, can come in handy). If anyone lives close to Austin you are welcome to it to try and see if you can make it work, target practice or anything else you see fit. The cost to diagnose/fix the problem probably exceeds the value of the unit. Travis
  23. Does anyone have an extra copy of La Traviata with Joan Sutherland they want to sell? Travis
  24. I have a JA Michell Gyrodec with SME Tonearm and a Linn Axis.
