  1. D-Rex, for DIY, there are plenty or sites out there for this. just go to the message board at partsexpress.com and you can see some pretty cool things that NO other manufacturer have or can make for the PRICE. but then again the biggest problem with DIY is you can't hear it before you build it(usually you can't, unless a friend has built what you want to build). the safe thing to do is buy a prebuilt klipsch/yamaha/JBL sub and then you know what your buying because you've heard it at a store and/or at home. however the price/performance ratio is poor of those yamaha/klipsch/JBL,etc subs when you compare to a well designed DIY sub. I guess you'll have to balance what you want: "much more value" vs "you hear what your buying". good luck scp53
  2. plissken99, looks like your going to have a very nice ht when its all setup. unfortunaly I m not much help. I wish I had a room like yours where it can be played loud and still not be disruptive. thats pretty cool
  3. I forgot to add that the titanic kits have free shipping right now- its worth $30-40, depending on the kit. scp53

    Question?

I don't have much experience with these speakers but one thing that im pretty sure about- keep it all klipsch. mixing the infinities in will mean there not voice matched... do you care about timbre/voice matched speakers in you HT
  5. Where did you get the kit? I wouldn't be opposed to that possibility! Thanks for being so long winded! D-Rex I got the kit from partsexpress.com . just today I rewatched different battle scenes from the lord of the rings- the return of the king. and in my room it has VERY good bass response. and guess what. im not even corner loading it. I set it about 13 ft from me(back of sub is about 2ft from nearest wall) and sit on a resonably padded coach and still felt it very well. and this produces ABSOLUTELY NO distortion-even at extreme levels. except a little air sound from a leak. but maybe it isn't because I had two people today listen to it and they were impressed and said they heard no air leakage, etc. maybe its just me. but when I push on the woofer, there is a slight hiss of air. oh well. a little air noise is ALOT better than port noise/turbulence. is your room on a cement floor or wood. mines on the first floor so that helps me out. if you have a cement floor Id consider getting the 12 or 15 inch titanics. not that the 10 won't do it. I should try it some time. tomorrow Im going to watch the matrix- but not in the basment. I tell you how it is after Ive watched it. I think I stated some where that the bass it tight. I really tested it today on some tight deep bass song. It really kept up- no mudding it up. you could hear and feel the beats seperatly. not like some other subs that sound like one big bass burp. let me know if you order it. I looked at your room dimensions. this sub should be fine unless you are a bass head. my room is filled with bass sound/thump,etc and its slightly bigger than yours(like 16 by 18-20??). note: the PE tech support is VERY good. they are NOT some dumby on the phone like some tech support is. if you have questions/concerns there able to help. tech support is from mon-fri 8am-8pm ET and sat 9am-5pm ET. theres also a message board for your questions-http://www.pesupport.com/cgi-bin/config.pl question for doudou: do you like your synergy setup? I have a pair of sb3's and my parents have sb1's-I really like synergy. good quality for the money. beats 99% of stuff out there when it comes to price/performance ratio. how do you like your ksw10?? do you have an amp problem like some people have had?? again Im very sorry Im so loonnngggg wiinnndddd........ scp53
  6. Ive had a little experience with the 215(a step below the 315) from yamaha. I took it back because it had really weak bass. Ive never personlly owned yamaha speakers(except that sub for 5 days or so until I returned it), but I don't consider them anything special. I would go with the ksw10 before that 315. Ive listened to the rw 10 and 12 but never the 8. The quality will definately be better but have less output if you go with the rw 8 vs the ksw or 315. Some things that I ve heard about the ksw is that it can sound boomy and has amp fuse problems. are you willing to spend a little more than 330. like maybe in the $350-400 range?? I just bought a titanic 10 inch mk3 sub kit and it is pretty impressive for a sealed sub(shakes my whole room with movies, sitting 13 ft away I can feel it very well, absolutly no distortion- except a little air noise- im still searching for the leak). ever thing on it is built like a tank and I know it surpasses any componets in those two subs you metioned. the driver in this titanic is around 18-19 lbs alone. that ksw10 and yammie315 don't have any thing like that. my new sub's cab/w just amp in it outweighs the ksw10 and 315. Im not saying that weight is every thing but it is something to look at- it can possibly tell you the quality of componets inside. you should tell us your room size and taste to better help you. is it for HT or music?? both?? is the physical size of the sub box a consideration? note: don't be dicouraged from a kit of any kind, you can really save money and gain much better performance. some kits(like the one I got) come with precut out holes. all you need is a few basic tools. even the t-nuts were installed and the cab was already texture painted. sorry i got so long winded scp53
  7. do you have an idea for a subwoofer?? size of driver? power? ported, sealed, etc? does the sub need high output(I think probably not because you have small sats???) If you were to build a sub from a kit I can strongly recommend the titanic subs from parts express. I got one and it rocks. they have three models with 3 driver sizes and an amp to match each. I have the smallest kit. my 10" sealed titanic is very tight and has reasonable shaking power. its only 14" cubed roughly and weighs 60 lbs. every part of it is built like a tank and backed by a very good warrenty/customer service. it cost 350 for that kit. but you'll need to specify your budget. I need to break it in before I really can say how it performs. just thought I d give you an idea for a cheap very well built/sounding sub. parts express message board can help you out with other cheaper sub designs. I think someone may have metionioned this... good luck scp53

  9. Jay481985, no Im not shopping for ht at sears just klling some time
  10. I meant that the subs in the HTiB systems sears sell barely shake. Im not really talking about $1000+ systems in a box.
  11. Im glad I know what real speakers are. KLIPSCH!!! not some crap from that cost 5 times what its worth. just a note: the other day I was in sears and asked a guy if they still had Klipsch(the quitet II). he looked at me and said "eclipse". Im like no "k l i p...". he says, nope never heard of them. he said sears sells ht systems. you call "ht in a box" a ht? give me a break. Its sad how many don't now what kind of speakers go into a ht system(or even music systems). the subs in those systems arn't even subs really(but many still beat the bose crapmodule )
  12. I like to read them for the heck of it but I would definitely not use them as a reliable source... not hijacking your thread, but does anyone know of reliable online review sites or magazines? Id like to go online and see reviews of products that aren't a bunch of bs from people who don't know squat.
  13. if you use the RF 7 as a center, how does the horn and two woofers stay centered on you? I mean your nomal center has a horn and a woofer on both sides- so its equal. does two woofers on one side of the horn work?
  14. I go look at specs at the RW10 and see " MAX ACOUSTIC OUTPUT: 110dB @ 30Hz 1/8 space, 1 meter ". what the heck does 1/8 space mean? this has been puzzling me for a while. thanks for any help...
  15. this is actully the 12 inch model. looks identical to mine except a little bigger in diamter. heres a pic of the back of it. by the way, how do I post multiple pics?
  16. I looked at the SW-15 on klipsch's site and it looks nice. with a passive radiator the bass should be tighter and obviously will have no port noise. if you really want to save money Id go diy. I just ordered and got a titanic kit(Titanic MKIII 10" kit with 250 watt amp and finished cab) from parts express. I think colin metion PE kits. I can't comment on sound quality because the drivers voice coil was out of alignment when I got it. don't let you think that a damaged driver is a reason not to consider a kit like this- the PE tech support said it is rare that this happens(it will cost me not a cent to get a new shipped to me ). I ll be able to comment on sound quality in a week or so(need to ship back driver, plus I'll be gone on vaction). I will comment on quality of build though. the box is top notch 3/4 think mdf and internally braced. the brace is notched in the sides of the cab, not just glued. the gill that came has fabric on it already and is very nice. it also comes with spikes which help clean up sound, level it on the floor, and also make it look better. as for the driver, its built in the USA- omg, imagine that, built in USA-, has a very big cast aluminum basket, huge long stroke vc(18.7mm xmax, thats just on way. pretty good for a cheap kit)and 2.5inches in diamter, very big magnet(over 6 lbs), huge surround, and handles 400 watts rms. remember that just a 10" sub. Im sure that it(the actullay sub driver) is better than a 10" sub made for huge production. Im not at all impling to buy a 10" sub or even a kit. but I think you may want to consider it(a kit). they have 12 and 15 inch models too. these are the same great build but bigger amps- 12 , 500 watt, 15inch , 1000 watt. there designed buy a audiophile van dickenson. by the way the amp has a standard warrenty of one year and the driver a 5 year(all driver models). sorry this is so long. if you want, I could tell you what its sounds like after the new driver comes and I break it in. I ll post a few picks of the driver and actual sub. see ya
  17. I just decided to search bose on this forum and found alot of bose bashing. Im a KLIPSCH fan all the way around but has bose ever made a decent product for the money? scp53
  18. I don't have the $$$ right now to consider spending a lot on a sub so I went DIY. besides, DIY has much more performance for the money generaly speaking. anyways, to what I was going to say. I order a kit from partsexpress(im not sure if a kit is DIY???). it came with a very well built cab(heavy and internally braced, looks pretty good too), a 250 watt plate amp, and 10" titanic driver, plus screws/foam/etc. got the whole darn thing togather, powered it up and played some music but all I got was distortion from it. fiddle around for about 30 min and came to realize that the voice coil is rubbing. that sure is the ****s. been waiting a week and know gotta wait longer to get a new driver.the driver is around $200 msrp, whats up with that. I called PE and they said its rare a driver would come damaged. sorry Im so long winded. just thought I share my dissapointment. but I guess in a week or so I ll have a new driver and HOPEFULLY its NOT a lemon!!! just curious, has anyone on this forum heard of these subs(Titanic from Dayton Audio). scp53
  19. very interesting triva . Im one of those "75%" that tried to lick their elbow.
  20. I agree. how many subs do you need?
  21. glue??? I don't know about that one. make sure that its a small amount. with that really small driver(3"-3.5"??) extra weight on it could drastically affect it . just a thought. scp53
  22. dkp, how do those THX subs sound. are they compareable to the rsw 15(s)? or are they better than the rsw 15(the specs show that they are, at least spl output is better). scp53
  23. pretty long... I guess ill have to read it later
  24. not hijacking your thread but how many subs do you have? Isn't the three rsws enough? actually, isn't the rsw 15 by itself enough?
  25. prodj101, my size limits are probably 20-23" cubed . I don't want to really go higher than that. Ive been reading on the parts express forum and for the money a Dayton quatro 12 or 15" driver puts out decently. I figured with all material and the driver and amp, it cost me 250-280 total. The guys on that forum tuned it to mid 20hz range and said its good for theater and pretty good for music. I also found out that it has a flat response from 20-25 hz----to 90hz and when put in the correct box sounds controled and non boomy. some of you should look at the quatro and tell me what you think. the titanics are nicer for sure but need more power to make something of them. pe also handles dvc sub drivers. I would consider one of those before a titanic. one person said they got a little over 105 db in his 15 by 15 foot room from his listening position(quatro 15inch in a 5.5cuft box vented).tell me your opinion(s) scp53
