  1. Did they teach you about soil conservation in economics class along with the part about stabilizing food markets?I believe you said: "America if we wanted to could feed the world over and have no child ever left hungry at night. But there are major problems. One problems is the fact that if we were to feed the world over 90% of America would have to be farmland or farm based. Two then food would cost nothing which even though sounds good, means that you can get probably 50 pounds of meat at a penny, that means the farmer would have very little profit meaning very little incentive to work (wholy capitalistic ideal). Because in capitalism we strive to maximize our profits by cheapening our products. If the competition sells it cheaper we will underscore them. This will make a bidding war and reduce prices even further as the American people are now taught from childhood to know when something is cheaper and the same quality it is a "value" hence all the warehouse prices and so if you buy 50lb of it. That is why our government gives subsidies to farmers to not grow to their potential and actually tells them to plant nothing this year, to stabilize the food markets". My response and link was posted to show there are other reasons for soil conservation like preserving the quality of it for longterm production of crops vs. simply stabilizing food markets. Greg
  2. No idea. I called them and spoke with them. Seems the more I find out about them, the bigger they are (international). She said I'd have to send them an email about it so I did. She said depending on what kind of auction it was, they sometimes take posession of said merchandise, or other times, high bidder (even if $1.00) takes it. Told them I'd wanted to know if it sold, if so, if they could tell me WHO they sold it to (they might be interested in flipping them?) so, here I sit now & wait for return email that will probably never happen. I await your next post, should be interesting. Greg
  3. Japan makes everything in China or Thailand for the fact that just like America, the labor has become to expensive to make products their to meet their stockholders. Remember after WWII Japan was where cheap labor was, then it moved to Korea, then and now China, as each nation prospered it to became to expensive. The problem is when does it stop? When there are no more realiable sources of cheap labor, then what do you do? Goto war. And to DrWho's comment, " For anyone against sending jobs overseas I would highly recommend actually giving some of these countries a visit - and not spending the night in a hotel, but in the homes of the people living there. I've not been to China, but I've been to Romania many times - think of the thousands of people that would starve to death had there not been jobs from the west moving in...we don't have starvation problems here in america - nope, we've got obesity like no other and are constantly throwing food away. We're definetly helping out all of mankind..." America if we wanted to could feed the world over and have no child ever left hungry at night. But there are major problems. That is why our government gives subsidies to farmers to not grow to their potential and actually tells them to plant nothing this year, to stabilize the food markets. It sounds more like a communistic idea but if evey farmer grew to their potential the spoils would be too much. Then we go into the idea of "great we have all this food to feed the world" but how do we get it to the people. Unfortunately most of the food that we send out would have spoiled by the time it arrives. There are more complications but there are many reasons why america cannot feed every child. I do understand your point DrWho that we throw away too much food at around 11-15% of all the food brought in America, enough to feed Canada, but its much more complex then lets just go and feed the world. I have not even touched on the politics yet... Have you ever heard of soil consevation? http://inside.bard.edu/politicalstudies/student/PS260Spring03/soil.htm Greg
  4. Did they sell and for how much? Greg
  5. Hell,I would deliver them to Bellevue! I often ride the bike there, beautiful area along the Mississippi. Greg
  6. Charles, Glad your starting to like the combo. When you said yesterday that they seemed a little to rolled off I thought to myself he needs to give it some time. The sound is different from what you are used to.You might have to adjust the position of the 511's to maximize the sound. The one driver covering so much territory probably has a different dispersion into the room(highs).I would be curious to see on/off axis measurements. In my system off axis does fall off but if Im not on axis then I am not ctiticaly listening. There also seems to be more roll off in the vertical vs. horizontal plane. That might have more to do with the position chosen for my 511's which are now about 60" in height and pointed down to the sweet spot 12' away. Greg
  7. thats intresting. so I could take my 2inch throat k-4m adapter and mount it on the flang of an altec 511b? The klipsch k-4m adapter lets you mount four k-55 drivers to a 2inch throat horn. Just for the record,Bill Martinelli has told me recently that I could mount the BMS 4592 coaxial driver to my 511B's with an adapter he sells. He claims the only noticable effect would be a loss in efficiency, mainly dictated by the horn itself. Not sure of the output of a BMS 118db driver on the 511 horn. Greg
  8. Chops, I at first I had the same impression with mine running 2way.After listening for awhile I find that to be the case off axis. But on axis I felt it was fine.A different sounding driver than the K-55 and K-77 tweeter(in 3way) for sure. After listening to many recordings over the last 6 months I have grown very fond of the sound.Give it some time. As you know I run an active x-over vs. passive so what I am hearing isnt the same.I look forward to your further impressions. Greg
  9. Congrats, What is the stock horn in the Belle's? Greg
  10. Thank you,the slow boat to China never set sail,so they will go on audiogon if there is no interest here. Greg

  12. This sounds like a no win situation for both partys.Oviously he believes his system is better and that mindset will be hard to change. We all have our perceptions of what sounds good. Then on the other hand K-horns and Mac SS gear is a sweet combo.Has he ever heard a K-horn?This could boil down to how open minded he is. As for your impressions of his system,be gentle. Greg
  13. Interesting thread. I wonder if different material for the gasket would change the sound. My 902's came with a cardboard gasket. It looked to be in good shape but I wondered at the time if a rubber gasket would change the sound. Coytee, I am pondering some vibe mods for my Scala bass bins.I felt that encasing the bin with MDF and creating a cavity of about 2 in then filling with sand would kill those nasty vibes. Also looking at some way to further isolate the driver itself from the cab and its vibes. To take things a step further spike the cab with cone feet. The cavity I refer to would be around the sides and the back side too. Greg
  14. Congrats! Make sure you get him up to speed on that Klipsch sound. Greg
  15. LOL,I know! Was in such a hurry to get a post up I missed that until I reread Bill's post. Maybe I have 3000 CDs for a reason? Greg
  16. Well, bring your system over sometime and I'll measure it for you. LOL You can measure your system. All you need is the TrueRTA software, a Behringer ECM800 calibration mic and either a mic preamp or small mixer with +9 to +48V phantom power. Oh, and it helps to have a somewhat decent soundcard in your computer. [] Roadtrip? I need to look into the equip.to measure. Greg
  17. Amen, this is for real!!!! I have expierienced ghost imagining with a couple dics since I went to my BagEnd dedicated sub system(2x18"w/integrator).On a Tool song where there is a recording of thunder my impression was that the sound was behind me,completely freaked me out the first time.I am like the speakers are in front of me,how can a sound like that be to my left behind me.Another song by Blues Traveler I had the impression I was in the middle of the crowd with people all around me clapping, being vocal, whistleing.I was hearing all this behind and to the sides of me.I have talked with another person that has had some similar expieriences and he has 2 subs. Great post Shawn,I hope people go to the link and read it all, kind of boring but yes it is for real! My recommendation is 2 quality subs. I have run many different subs such as Velodyne(3 different 15"),NHT,Sunfire and 2 12" Velodynes at the same time. The best of the bunch was the 2 12" Velo's,just sounded right. My 2 BagEnd 18"'s walk all over the 2 12" Velo's not because of the cone diameter but by the way they integrate or blend so well with the freqencies above. Greg
  18. a second bump while you figure it out. Greg
  19. My thoughts as well! Greg
  20. Chops, That is some pretty good response, wish I could measure my system to see where I am at! Greg
