  1. So,do you think I could slam the diaphram into the phase plug at 2 watts max output?
  2. Hey, I lived in Chicago for a few years and was into the blues scene, try around Markette college.Cant remember the streets but look for a place called Kingston Mines. There is a strip by the college with about 4 or 5(used to be)blues clubs one owned by Muudy Waters(I think)been awhile, were talking 1986.But I know they are still there! Greg
  3. You are correct,China has had a booming economy since coming out of thier reccession in 2000'. The potential buyer is a project manager for a major architecture firm and has spent money on audiogon with good feedback. He knows due to his geographical location its not cheap to ship and like you said the selection of Klipsch LaScala's has to be few and far between in China. Greg
  4. lots of good info here folks...save it to favorites! Thanks Moon Greg
  5. Maron, How did you have your 2001's set up,what x-over point? Did you have it in a 2way application or 3? Greg
  6. Duke, That sounds interesting, let us know your impressions. Greg 'Bought a month ......ok ..?? yep
  7. Thank you, This info adds a different perspective for sure.I have not committed to them yet and wanted to hear others thoughts and expieriences with them.I dont feel like breathing anything poisonous due to my ignorance.Great post. Greg

  9. Dana, After living with my system for 6 months now I tend to agree on that punch factor. I have formed the impression due to the various level controls in my biamped system allowing me to voice the system vs a manufactured speaker with its passive set at the factory.Adjusting the Rane's bass levels 1 or 2 db can greatly impact the energy and impression of punch.I am not in any high or low x-over camp yet.I cross at 400hz but occasionally set it to 500hz.My impression is that the bass can really impact the midrange and that they work together to give that sense of impact and definition.Get the bass wrong and it screws up the mids ie loss of transparency, clarity, focus, impact and so forth.I do think we have preferences and need to listen to various configurations to find them. Greg
  10. Just got off the phone with Pioneer/TAD and they are telling me in my application 500hz is ok for a crossover point. This is looking better and better. 3db better than the 902's plus TAD sound, the remaining question is how are they gonna sound hooked up to my 511's Greg
  11. I understand where you are.My girlfriend of 3 years decided she didnt know where she was in life. Her divorce came thru last summer and I guess I got rebounded. She moved out this Jan.I am still torn up and trying to pick up the pieces.Music helps and it takes time.Everyone says go out and find another one.I dont think they understand that it is not that easy.My feelings ran deep and I dont think I could just fall in love with someone else at this time.I would probably end up rebounding her and no one deserves that. Good luck and think positive. Greg
  12. I could possibly go with even steeper slopes of 48db per octive for added insurance.I think I would be afraid to stand on the system untill that point.98% of my listening is within a safe SPL range, just have to be cautious. Anyone have a response chart for these?probably not with an Altec 511. Greg
  13. Just an update here in case you want to ship LaScala's to CHINA. The prospective buyer is mulling over the total price at this time and I cant blame him. The cost of shipping came out to $350 for packaging and $1250 for air freight.Ocean freight came in at $1405. He is also searching for possible shipping prices.Shipping will be his responsibility including payment to them seperate from the cost of the speakers. If he chooses to buy them as per our aggreement I will deliver to any shipper of his choice in my area only after I have payment in my checking account via his transfer to my paypal account. This will be interesting. Greg
  14. Hi Shawn, The TAD's are rated from 500hz to 22k with a recommended crossover at 800hz w/12db slpoe and 500hz w/24db slope.I would have to probably adjust my Rane up to 500hz. This purchase would be from a reputable speaker dealer that has 4 pair used and he is guarrantying them.On the second pair he claims one has a blown diaphram. Greg Will they do 500hz?
  15. In my recent never ending search for more efficiency for my highs I have ran across a fork in the road. I am very interested in the BMS 4592 coaxial driver that D-MAN uses.At 118db/1 watt it sounds like the perfect match for my Wavelength Gemini's and love of the 45 tube(2 watts). Today I am at a fork in the road.I have the chance to buy a pair of TAD 2001 compression drivers which seem hard to find and I'm not sure if they are even made anymore. The efficiency of these drivers is at 109db not as high as I was looking for BUT... These drivers are like the holy grail.Way over engineered for exceptional sound and I think the price is right at $350 ea.That sounds like alot but I dont know the price new.Is the price inline for used? This would completely consume my budget for this upgrade but also will bolt directly to my 511B's.The BMS drivers would cost about $400 ea plus I am looking at a different horn(price unknown?) to make them work. Any thoughts would be apprciated. Greg http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=1479&taxonomy_id=45-200
  16. that Klipsh made a horn like this, too bad there is only one. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9739532520&ssPageName=ADME:B:DS:UK:28 Greg
  17. Yea,I coulnt sleep last night!!! Greg
  18. Interesting thread.I have never heard Scala's outside without walls renforcing the bass so I would asume there to be less bass output but probably better quality. If no sub is to be used they my guess would be attenuate the mids and high just a tad. my 2 cents. Greg As an ambassador to the Klipsh sound at this party dont forget to STAND on it once and awhile, got to show them what Scala's can do!!! LOL
  19. the compression driver hooked to it looks pretty BIG!!!

  23. Hello, I was on the west coast stationed at Bremerton,Wa.I was a Boiler Tech. Second Class. Greg Small world. 4 years Navy, Boiler tech as well. USS Wisconsin #4 Fireroom. Wisconson, was that in the Iowa class battleships?I know in that class you had the Iowa and Missouri not sure of the others.Thought the Wisconson was one? I was on the USS Sacremento,a fast combat replenish ship .We could cruise at 30 knots with a ship on each side tied with 4 cables each sending weapons.fuel and groceries to them.We had 4 600 psi boilers and battleship turbines from some other battleship class that had been decommissioned. We could carry 16,000,000 gals of fuel and about 8 mill of JP5.The length of her was right at 800'.
