I just received an e-mail purportedly from Pay Pal, telling me that someone with a foreign IP address has been trying to access my account. The e-mail looked official, and even had a link for me to click on to verify my account. The link was not directed to Pay Pal, but someone with a bellsouth.net domain address. Don't be fooled by this scam! I went to Pay Pal and logged in the correct way and verified that my account is OK. Now I'm wondering if Pay Pal is really all that secure if someone can get a hold of my e-mail address [:@] Dale

Maybe some Kg 1.5's, 2's, or 2.5's...I've never actually seen Heresys, except in pictures, but they might work...How do they do placed on stands? The room is only about 10' X 10.' The Reference and Synergy bookshelfs would be work too, and would probably sound great, but they're not really vintage. Ideally, I'd like something that would have been available new in the mid-70s and might have been paired with this receiver. Dale

Just wanted to show off my new home office system...The receiver is a '76 Rotel RX-603 (50 Wpc) that I bought from forum member Rick 88. The unit is in awesome shape for being 30 yrs old! Fortunately, I had a pair of crappy JVC speakers from an all-in-one system. My goal is to find a decent used TT and, of course, some Klipsch speakers to make this a totally vintage system, but this will have to suffice until that happens. I immediately hooked the RX-603 up in my main system with my Kg 5.5s and my initial impression was that the unit sounded much more powerful than 50 wpc. Of course, that's the efficiency of Klipsch speakers! As soon as I powered the unit on, that warm, rich sound I remember came pouring out of my system. I put on a CD of America's Greatest Hits, and I could swear it was the '70s all over again. Of course, I was only 10 yrs old when this receiver was built.[] And you know what, the iPod doesn't sound half bad! I know a bookshelf isn't the optimal place for speakers, but the room is kind of small and I really don't have room for big floorstanders. Bookshelf speakers mounted on stands could work if I were to totally rearrange the room. If any of you have a set of speakers or a turntable you'd like to sell, PM me with the details. Dale

Oldtimer, "Beautiful Blue", huh...Great car! I hope you have a good source for parts here in the States. I've only seen one Alfa dealer, in Newport Beach, CA, next door to a Ferrari dealer. Fortunately, the 164's are as ubiquitous in Italy as the Taurus is here...The'yre all over the place! Dale

Catchy tune...I give it an '8." Seriously, the band isn't familiar, but I do remember WRIF for sure. I left Michigan after 10th grade when my father was transferred for work. There were a lot of good local bands in the area, though. Speaking of Motor City Madmen, Ted Nugent had a place just outside Jackson, and I used to see him with his kids when he would take them to Chuck Cheeze's. Man, what a nice guy! He always drove a totally decked out black Bronco. I remember when his wife got high with a friend one night and wrapped her car around a very large tree. Unfortunately, the tree won that match... I saw the Romantics at the Michigan Theatre in Jackson, MI. That was pretty embarassing, but I only went to the concert to see the drummer play because, like me, he was left-handed. Dale

Filmboy, I got a chance to see Buddy Rich as well. I guess I was about 10 yrs old. My grandmother took me, and she was able to get me on his tour bus to meet him after the show. He had a towel over his head and sweat poured off of him. I remember that he was really nice, and he spent about 10 minutes with me. He even told me not to start smoking. A real class act! If my memory serves, my first concert was Kiss and they played at our local ice rink in Jackson, MI, circa 1976 maybe? I think the opening band may have been Blue Oyster Cult. Anyway, Kiss' makeup started to melt in the heat, and I remember reading in the paper the next day that the band was PO'ed and had vowed never to come back again. Dale

Jay, Burger King (here in No Cal) is advertising something like what you mentioned, only on a bun made of french toast. It does not look very appetizing... As for Krispy Kreme, I have never liked their donuts. Call me a purist, but I prefer plain chocolate cake donuts. The sugary coating Krispy Kreme uses makes me want to hurl. I can't even think of adding meat and cheese to it. [+o(] Dale

Congrats on scoring the 5.5s...If they're are in decent shape, you got quite a steal! That means that my speakers may be worth less than I thought they were [:@] The 5.5s are best suited (I think) for rock and roll, but they're great at just about everything. I find them a bit bright at times, and they tend to manhandle some delicate classical music, but overall I think you'll really enjoy them. Most of all, they sound great LOUD!!! I bought mine in "94, and after about six months of looking for speakers, they were the only speakers my wife liked [] If you're going to put them on carpet, I recommend you remove the plastic feet and use the spikes (mine have them). When we lived in Italy I had them placed on a tiled floor with the plastic feet and they sounded fantastic as well. The are rather large speakers, however, and will seem huge unless you have a large room. I'd love to see pics when you get them set up! Dale

After seeing it demo'ed on an HT system in an audio store, I just had to run out and pick up Diana Krall's "Live in Paris" DVD. I only have a 2-ch system, but the disc still sounded amazing. I felt like I was sitting in the front row! Of course, Ms. Krall is nice to look at as well [] Highly recommended! Dale
