  1. It would be cool if Klipsch installed some sort of tone adjustment device on their future model Klipschorn. I would love to have a new matching pair finished in Dark Walnut.
  2. Speaker placement is critical when balancing the high and low frequencies. You can either be too close(boomy) or too far away (bright) from from the rear wall using floor standers. Since my integrated amp has no tone controls, I had to move my SF Grand Piano Homes until I found that magical sweet spot, that perfect balance of high and low frequencies. The results of being to close or too far away can be dramatic. Plus I have no tone control to get in the way of good clean sound. I can understand why the Khorns would need some kind of tone control, they are permanent corner setting speakers. But mybe one could improve the overall tone buy simply moving the Khorns around in the corners. Maybe a tight air seal between wall and speaker is not the way to go?
  3. How about that $99.00 graphic equalizer at Best Buy. Simply turn down that ****ty midrange. Or take away and/or add anything else in the whole frequency range.
  4. COLD PLAY, parachutes CD is very mellow but sounds verygood also.
  5. I very much enjoy my AQ1003DT also with my carefully placed SF Grand Piano Home loudspeakers. Distance from rear wall is critical when balancing the high and low freqencies to even out the sound. When my speakers sat away from the rear wall and closer to me, the sound was too bright. But the closer I moved them to the rear wall and away from me, they sounded more natural(sweet spot). If I moved them too close to rear wall the sound would become too boomy. Since this integrated comes with no tone controls, this is the only method for bass and treble adjustment. I have four different kinds of speakers that I enjoy experimenting with. So far the GPH's sound best with my AQ1003DT. But I still love my Forte's with the B&K combo.
  6. If the original finish was oak. Then that is what it is "oak veneer".

Do they have website? I can't find it. ---------------- I am new to this audio stuff also. Never heard of them. Someone needs to educate both of use concerning amps. New or used.

  9. When I used my 30 watts per channel, push pull, solid state rectified, AQ1003DT amp with my Fortes. I could only use 1/8 (7:30 o'clock) of the volume dial. This was not this amps sweet spot, which is 9:00 on the dial. I think with the MG-SI 15 you would be in the sweet spot. Epecially in triode mode. You have some very sensitive speakers. Check out these sights www.welbornelabs.com, www.roger-russell.com

It also comes with a wooden remote for source and volume control. ---------------- I am pretty sure this amp would be a better choice for your 98 db sensitive Klipsch RF 35 speakers. It will also play very loud if wanted with these speakers.
  11. Robin Trower, Bridge of Sighs is raising pure clean hell as of now. I just bought the 1999 version CD with the five extra live cuts. Thanks for the tip "who ever". This is a verygood clear sounding quality recording with no exaggerated vocal sibilance. 24-BIT CD #72435-20811-2-7
  12. The pre amp signal is very important. You want one that matches your amps and delivers a clean signal to your amps.I do not know if your current pre amp would work or not. I only have one source. A Phillips CD, SACD, DVD Audio player. My vinyl is on hold since I bought my new player. Be very carefull when buying amps. Make sure they will match your speakers. My AQ1003DT sounds better with my less sensitive 88 db SF Concertino speakers placed close to the wall than with my very sensitive 99 db Forte 2 speakers. I use my B&K MOSFET solid state combo to drive the Forte's.
  13. I just purchased the 30watts per channel ASL AQ1003DT integrated tube amp fromm AA and like it alot. One reason why I chose integrated was the simplicity of it. I also read a good review at www.enjoythemusic.com about the AQ1003DT amp. But I am sure the new ASL Waves AV-25 are just as good or better than the AQ1003DT. You can read a review about the older version Waves there.
  14. I am no audio expert by any means. The new AQ 25 waves shown in the AA catalog do look interesting. I would also buy the matching preamp $345.00

  16. ---------------- *** Pink Floyd's "The Wall" *** ---------------- Verygood, without a doubt.
  17. I have always wanted to see frequency response measurements of a single speaker using different speaker cables. Simply change cables between each test. High end verses low end. Have the results ever been published?

If you want loud, clean music, you need big, powerful speakers. ---------------- I have an ASL AQ1003-DT tube amp with no tone controls and my little SF Concertinos sound better than my Forte 2 speakers at reasonably loud volume levels in my 10 by 16 size room. Size does not matter in small rooms. Without a doubt the Forte will play louder with my amp in the same room. But louder is not better. Very bright and fatiquing!
  19. Any album that sounds too bright and non musical would be the worst.
  20. Experience thus far indicates an ideal listening room to be in the ratio of 8 to 5, approximately. Thus a room 15 by 24 would be in the right proportion. If one likes pipe organ with deep bass as part of his listening repertoire, a room diagonal of 34 feet or more would be desirable, which fixes the room dimensions at 18 bt 29 feet. Practically any size from 12 by 19 up will sound good. Personally, I like a ceiling height 5/8 of the room width. I'd hate to have to prove this to be a best value. Paul W. Klipsch January 2, 1958

I might sell the demo unit if the manufactorer gives me a deal... ---------------- Colin, I read your review and purchased the new version AQ 1003DT from AudioAdviser online $999.99 while keeping in mind their 30 day money back return policy. My amp has the blue saphire power on light, metal tube cage, wooden remote and the infra red window on front of the amp for the remote signal. WOW!!! This amp amp is a keeper. I was a little worried before ordering the amp that it's 30 watt output might not be enough to drive my 99 sensitve Klipsch Forte 2 or my 90 sensitive rating SF Grand Piano Home Speakers. Boy was I wrong, this amp plays loud. I have not gotten past the 9 o'clock position on the volume dial. The amp also delivers verygood bass output along with verygood resolution of musical instraments. Bells, cymbals and everything else sounds real. This is my first vacuum tube amp and I love it. I think the lower powered ASL MS-SI 15 DT $899.99 would have been a verygood choice also for my small 11' by 16' room. Black Sabbath, Sabotage never sounded better.
  22. Dale Earnhardt drove a Chevrolet and he was my friend.
  23. I read the complete review about the ROTEL, ODYSSEY, AND B&K. The Rotel was the overall winner. I recently sold my Odyssey amp because I was experiencing too much vocal sibilance (pronounced S sounds) using the amp. The Odyssey is a very revealing amp and covers up nothing. But will sound good with high quality recordings. It uses J-FETS transistors which are known to be bright sounding. I also have a B&K PT3 Pre amp and B&K ST 1400 amp which I prefer over the Odyssey. It does great with all kinds of music. Good or bad recordings. It uses MOS-FETS transistors which are known to have a warmer, less fatigue, easier on the ear sound.
  24. I was thinking of trying out the small MG-SI 15DT single ended design 'class A' vacum tube integrated amp with remote. The twin KT 88 output tubes deliver 15 watts per channel. The single-ended 'Class A' topology features selectable triode and pentode operation. It also has a line-level subwoofer output. I have a small 10' by 11' room and will be using Klipsch KG 3.5 floorstanding speakers that have a sensitivity rating of 94. Can anybody guess/know what this amp would sound like? Audio Adviser sells these with a 30 day money back return policy. Who else offers this return policy on tube amps?
