Way to go, Joe! Good for you. All the best.... Mick

Scott: You have E-mail. Mick

Thanks, Shawn. Your LaScala mod thread is very helpful. If I can just get up the courage to make that first cut! Mick

Anyone have any experience fitting an Altec 511 horn into a LaScala? Specifically, how do you go about it. Tops of Belles come apart fairly easily but this doesn't seem to be the case with LaScalas. Mick

MC2105 paired w/CW's or Chorus II's any good
Mick Bell replied to miamagsdad's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I use a McIntosh 2105 with my LaScalas --- sounds terrific! Mick -
Looking for a nice pair of LaScalas, hopefully within 400 miles of Dayton, OH but I'd travel further for a really good pair! Any help/hints in locating a pair would be appreciated. Thanks, Mick Bell

Wits End! Trying To Hook Up Sub To McIntosh C11-Help Please!
Mick Bell replied to 126mhz's topic in Technical/Restorations
Neither the "center out" on my C-28 nor the "sub out" on my new JoLida 707A have enough output to drive my Outlaw LFM-1 Sub-woofer. I have to drive it via the speaker outputs. Luckily, the LFM-1 has provision for that. I even sent my JoLida 707 back to the factory to have them check its sub out. They claim the JoLida's sub output is fine and that some sub-woofers require more input than others. The JoLida sub-out may be "fine" but boy it won't drive my sub! On the other hand, I have a cheap little Pioneer receiver with a pre-out for a center channel. It drives the sub woofer just fine. Go figure. Mick -
Do Mcintosh Solid State Amps sound/work good w Klipschorns
Mick Bell replied to GregJD's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
You don't need the power of a 2105. I've used a 2105 with Klipschorns but it's really overkill. You probably won't use more than one half watt most of the time. Mick -
Interesting. Thanks, Gill. Mick

I use Altec 811b horns with my Belle Klipsch. For a while I used the Klipsch driver but then changed to the Altec 902. The big horns are a big improvement. Much better dispersion and larger sound stage. Mick Shawn: Are those Altec 511s in your La Scala?

I have the Polk XM tuner. No complaints, good DAC. Very close to CD quality. Mick

I used hot melt glue and it stuck to the cloth just fine but the metal fell off! Haven't tried anything else. I had a devil of a time getting the glue off the grill. Mick

SETI, $$ is not the point of the review. VALUE is the point. The cost is available at ALK's website.

Shawn, I believe the tweeter is crossed at 7500 Hz. It's attenuated 6 dB. Haven't tried two-way. Mick

Just received Al Ks Extreme Slope Network for the Belle Klipsch. Theyre not cheap! On the other hand, theyre worth every penny. I once had a pair of Quad ESL-63 electrostatic speakers. Those things were the absolute best at precise imaging. Every detail in the music was there. Trouble was they were terribly bass shy and the electronics was always giving me trouble so I sold them. AL Ks Extreme Slope Network yields the nearest thing to the precise imaging and incredible detail I loved about the Quads without the headaches I had with the Quads. My Belles are now able to reproduce incredible detail even in complex musical passages which until now simply merged into loud noise. I hear subtleties I never heard before. Bass is well defined, tighter, stronger. Instruments seem to be right there in the room with you a sense of realism which makes you forget youre listening to recorded music. The sound stage is much expanded both in width and depth and the sweet spot much, much wider. If youve been thinking about the Extreme Slope, my recommendation is DO IT NOW. You wont be sorry. Mick

Fortes and tube amps .... but which ones ?
Mick Bell replied to laurenc319's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I just purchased a new tube amp (integrated) for use with my Belle Klipsch. Check out the JoLida 707A --- 40 watts, 60 peak. JoLida designed this amp to give nearly the sound of SET but to put out 40 watts. You can get a Level One modified 707A delivered for about $1,400. Check the JoLida site (Jolida.com) for the phone #. Michael Allen -- the owner -- will be glad to discuss the design goals of the amp. Mick -
Yea, JoLida JD-100 is a FANTASTIC CD Player. I just took delivery on a level one mod. Boy, is this thing neat! Mick
