I don't see how. I also don't see how hospital grade a.c. connectors and the like can improve anything. First: All of us use the the typical surge protector strip on all sorts of equipment. Some is fairly sophisticated. T.V., computer, radios of all sorts. These do as much signal processing as the hi-fi gear. No one reports problems in those applications. Of course the high end guy might say these units are compromised too. But there is no such evidence: We run microprocessors at a Ghz and there is no problem. The typical video player is doing a lot of work and putting out a signal with at least a 1.0 mHz bandwidth. Are there serious reports that video output is compromise? No. Sound is messed up, but these examples, in our experience, are not. How does that happen? Also I don't see how any purported "bad stuff" (be it a signal or device) will influence the output side of the power supply of our gear. In the most elementry (like a classic tube amp) you've got a big cap which is pretty much going to kill anything but D.C. The more sophisticated units have much more complicate power supplies. These probably work just as well an keeps as good an eye on the purity of output voltage. That is what I think. Gil ---------------- Gil, you are 100% correct. A good surge suppressor is infact needed. Buy one and then replace it every 5 years. Or, get the Brickwall type and forget about it until you pass it on to your kids. It really is not worth all of the brain power everyone is putting in to it!
  2. Shawn, Thanks for the links. I'm doing more research now......

The logic here is if something is in a weakened state, perhaps bringing low & slow power to it might allow it to come back to working completely, rather than the chance of blowing a capaciter by blasting it with full uncontrolled power. Reasonable? ---------------- You are thinking and that is good. But, it will not do what you want. You need to go ahead and hit everything with the full 120 volts. The interior of your reciver/amp is running on 15 anyway. So you are not really accomplishing anything. Your internal power supplies to your reciever are dropping the voltage to 15 volts already. So, just plug it in and enjoy. If something is weak and ready to short, it will short when it decides to short. Nothing you can do about it. A good question though!
  4. I'm not buying it. If you measure a line source and a point source at one meter, and they read the same spl, then measure them at 5 meters and the line source has a higher spl than the point source? Sounds fishy.......
  5. Well, I have been waiting to buy a set of Martin Logan speakers, (the smallest fullrange electrostatic model) and I went and listened to them yesterday. I thought, gee, they sound pretty good, but not THAT good for the money. I then went home and listened to my KSF 8.5s with my Klipsch center channel and said, gee, this setup sounds just as good as the Martin Logans! So, I'm saving a huge amount of cash ($3000) and keeping my Klipsch. Oh well, when you start with the best, it is hard to go to something else. Another old test I did a few years ago was listening to the Legacy Focus speakers ($5000/pr I think) versus the KLF 20 and 30. The Klipsch 20s at one third the price sounded better than the Legacy Focus. Every time I listen to another brand, and then listen to a comparable Kilpsch product, the Klipsch always wins. Kind of strange....... I might have to go to Indy and talk with the engineers...seems they are on to something!
  6. Guys, how do we get Klipsch to start offering the KLF 20 as a legend product? Since it(and the 30) were clearly some of the best speakers ever made, I think new generations should be able to enjoy them! The 30 was very large, so if they made the 20 it would represent the product very well. How do we make it happen?
  7. I would recommend the KLF-20s for your mains and Midsize Klipsch Center channel. But, since you can't get the KLF series anymore, go with the Synergy from Best Buy. They sound fantastic for the price! How can I get Klipsch to start making the KLF 20s again as a legend product? Any ideas anyone?
  8. Never talk science around audiophiles. It ruins the whole conversation. Talk "magic" and by golly you have them hooked!
  9. You have asked a good question! I believe you can easily get "too much speaker" into a room.(If you are a radical Klipschophile! ) It does affect the sound in a negative way. When you have too much speaker, I have found that you end up with less bass, a muddy smeared sound and you will never get a "surround" effect unless you are in the exact sweet spot for the set up. It will be much harder to set your system up so it works with a natural surround effect. Whichever cone you are nearest to will dominate your position. With your Sunfire sub, I would get the smaller speakers and you will have a much nicer over all set up. 12X12 is very small and you most likely will never use even 1/2 of the capability of your speakers.
  10. You do need a sub. It is not the speakers that are the problem but the signal that is being sent to the speakers. KLF 30's can put out massive amounts of bass, but in a home theater setup, you can't run all of the LFE to the front mains as the recievers will not let you. Plus you would not have a volume control for the LFE coming from your mains, so it is usually pretty weak. So, in the end, your speakers (KG 3.5s) can put out pretty good bass, but they will never get an LFE signal from the reciever. I hope this info helps. Also, there are plenty of good cheap subs available. You do not need a monster sub unless you really want to blow the paint off of your walls. Good luck with your home theater!
  11. I would say to buy the Sony or Pioneer 100 watt per channel recievers. They have always given me good service and they work quite well. They drive Klipsch speakers very well. One of the main features I would look for is the recievers bass management controls. It is irritating to find out that you can't control the bass to each speaker, when you have fantastic full range Klipsch speakers all around in your home theater! Check out the controls for each speaker and see if you can control the bass individually. I do not have the capability now and if I have to buy again, it will be my most important buying point. Good Luck and enjoy!
  12. Since you have your mains running through the sub, your mains are rolling off at 70hz. This feature is for most people who have small speakers with the sub, and dont want the bass to wreck their Radio Shack 6 inch specials. You obviously do not need to run your mains through the sub!
  13. I wanted to jump in here and say that I have owned a JBL 12 inch sub and heard an inexpensive Infinity sub. They both gave you a huge bang for the buck in sound. The JBL rocked and had a limiter on it that worked very well. I had it in a very large room and it would vibrate the walls when cranked up. I can honestly say to give them a try, I think you will be suprised. The ones I have heard did a fine job for the price ($300). I have since moved up to a mountain shaker, but I still miss that old JBL as it was easy to set up with my speaker system and rocked......Good Luck!
  14. I still have the speaker for sale. $375.00 delivers it to your door by UPS. Fantastic condition! I mean it, it is almost brand new. If you ever wanted one of these speakers, this is the time to go for it. E-mail me at Spkrdctr@aol.com I only have the one.....
  15. Does anyone (like me) miss these speakers? I think they should have kept making them even if it was under the Heritage name. They were the most awesome speakers avaialable on the market in my mind. I listened to them against the Legacy Focus and they blew the Focus away! I have never heard anything as good as those. I checked the bass output in my local high end store by bringing in my own Star Trek CD, and in the small room we were in, we had to turn the KLF 20's down as we were afraid the glass walls and door were going to shatter! I even did test tones 30 and 40 hz and they played LOUD with no stress at all. Simply the finest speakers Klipsch ever made....... Anyone else have an experience with the KLF series that was memorable? I still say they were unbelievable!
  16. Thanks for the support guys! It is a very nice sub. It is just too much for a two bedroom apartment. It sits about 7 feet from my listening postion (home theater mainly) and it vibrates your bone marrow. Needless to say, it is overkill. An explosion on my tv becomes an explosion in the living room! Now my wife will quit complaining about the walls and ceiling flaking off white specks all over the place.......
  17. I'll check into shipping this beast freight truck. I would need to get a pallet for it. Once it is on its own pallet, they can easily move it around with a pallet jack. That is the only "safe" way of doing it. I would guess around $100 to ship but I'll check.
  18. Hi guys, I'm in the Detroit area and I'm looking to sell my sub. They originally sold for around $1300.00. It does not have an auto on feature and has a pre-amp included. It is ready to go for $350.00 if anyone lives in the area and can pick it up. It is heavy! It has a 15 inch down firing driver and two 15 inch passive drivers on the sides.
  19. Yes, it is still for sale. I realy need to check the exact UPS shipping charges as speakers are heavy. I guessed $375 to everyones door, but to be 100% positive I need to check with UPS. I'll do that in the next day or so and make sure $375.00 is ok. If anyone wants it, let me know. Thanks!
  20. Bill H, I did not recieve any message to my knowledge. You can e-mail me at Spkrdctr@aol.com. I am in the middle of an upgrade so I'm selling all of the extra equipment I have.
  21. Also it is all black and I have the owners manual too. It sounds awesome, of course!
  22. Thanks for the info. It is like new without the box. I will have to have one of the shipping places like UPS make a custom box for it for safe shipping. I figure $375 should cover everything. No add on charges. $375 puts it at your door by UPS.
  23. Hi, I'm new around here and have a brand new center channel for sale. Is there a place where I should post an item for sale? Thanks for the info!
