Michael ---------------- Good guess CP1 I have two vintage pinball machines and did a lot of posting on this news group: http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.games.pinball?hl=en&lr= Seems like about 1/2 of the pinball guys are also into jukes. I know a guy in Toronto Canada that is really into them and can point you in the right direction. Let me know if you want his email address. Good Luck, Rich
  2. I was waiting for you to chime in here bitece. I too worked at UPS - for a total of 8 years. I loaded and unloaded semi trailers, Sorted boxes on to conveyors and later supervised the guys doing the loading/unloading/sortingeventually I started writing computer programs for Big Brown, but that is another story. There is very little chance for packages to get tossed or thrown. Conveyors and belts move the packages to about waist level within a foot of a worker. They are then sorted to another conveyor belt or loaded into a truck like a brick layer builds a wall. Package can and very often do get dropped from waist/knee heightbut at 3 feet or so just about any idiot can pack a box to withstand that. Poorly constructed walls in the truck shift and packages get mashed on top of others. A heavy box at the top of a wall with air space has the potential to fall 6-8 feet. These falling boxes and the jams in chutes and conveyors that bitece pointed out are the two biggest problems. Production is KING at UPS and everyone is busy. Some people dont give a rats a$$ but most do. The actual guys driving the brown trucks delivering the packages are pretty darn professional compared to what I have seen from FedEx ground (old RPS) drivers. Supervisors from UPS routinely tail drivers following them and checking up on all the aspects of delivery. I have shipped or had shipped to me (all via UPS) three (3) Academies, four Heresies, and two SS1s. Only one academy was damaged on the corner. UPS sent out an inspector he looked over the box and packing and promptly paid the claim all in about three weeks. That is 1 of 9 damaged and 100% of claims paid. Sure I would like to see no damage, but that is not all that bad all things considered. Nothing is perfect, but if you pack things tight and secure you should have a very good chance of survival. Spend the .35 cents per 100 dollars for the extra insurance and take some pix as you pack it up. If you recycle and old beat up box and use minimal peanuts you are rolling the dice.
  3. Mr. M, Thanks for the tip on Sunfiregood idea to see what the cost would be especially if it is a flat fee. I guess my real question is: If one channel is bad is that indicative that the other will go bad soon? I really only need one more channel of power, not two. I have three 2 channel amps currently (all TFM-25s) so this one channel working amp would give me the 7 I need for a 7.1 system. But I dont want to buy something that is problematic.
  4. There are far worse things going on in our government then a nice lunch for some employees doing a good job.
  5. I hate the Drate! I love the Drake! (Seinfield fans will know this one) At any rate the Drake is in fact a killer hotel. I love Chi-town. Wish I knew you were going Gary, I would have given you directions to the Wieners Circle. Check out these strange but true stories from my younger days if you have some time to kill. Wieners Cricle Any Chicago members frequent this spot???
  6. Anyone out there know a thing or two about amps and why one channel would work and another not work? Is this an indication of bigger problems or is it likely that the one channel will continue to work, without issue, for some time? The reason I ask is that I already have three of these: Click Me to see TFM-25 Amps, and I really only need one more channel for my 7.1 set up. Sure I could track down another TFM-25 with two working channelsbut if this would fit the bill I would be all set. Seller's listing is a bit odd too. Pass on this or take a chance??? What do the pros out there think? Thanks, Rich
  7. Remarks not intended for you, O. Just say things with conviction and they become fact.
  8. O, I agree that it might not matter. My gut tells me it does not...but my gut has been wrong in the past. My goal has always been to get them "sounding the same" or reading the same on SPL meter. I just got to wondering if it really did matter, if so why. Surely there is no lack of opinions here and quite a few smart people (smarter then me anyway). Most are not too shy to offer up any info they have concrete or otherwise (ducking)
  9. When calibrating you speakers (via SPL meter or ear method) with test tones do you guys set the Loudest or most efficient speaker to 0db then bump up your others in the +db range. Or do you put your quieter speakers to 0db and bring your louder speakers into the db values? Is there any advantage one way or another? My guess is that you are using the SPL meter to bring all speakers to the same level so as long as you are not overdriving your amp it does not matter. Then I started to think if you have an 8db difference between a khorn main and a heresy surround (my left khorn is set to 0 and my left heresy to + 8) then you might be overdriving the one heresy amp channelbut I dont hear any issues. I could probably set the heresy to 0 and bring down the khorn in negative range till it matches the reading on the spl meter. What is the right thing to do or does it matter?
  10. Edgewound, thanks for the info. I thought the Planer was the older models and the "P" was the newer ones. I also figured there had to be some slight differences. However when the seller said it only had 100 or less hours on it I figured it was most likely a P3 not a Planer 3. Either way I think it was a good deal. I know the arm is a great one and the TT was in my price range. The guy wrote me back and said he would accept my agon offer if his current buyer fell though. Not my day as it is now sold and not to me Oh well, I keep looking.
  11. Is a Rega P3 and a Rega Planer 3 the same? If not what are the differences? Does it matter significantly? I am considering a used (100 hour) Planer 3 with RB300 arm and rega cartridge. Nothing Phenomenal I know, but my Scout plans are on hold and looking for something to "get me through" for a while. I figure the Rega's hold their value pretty well so reselling should not be an issues 6-18 months down the road. A different cartridge may be in order in the short term. Thanks TT wise ones
  12. I know all things factor in here, room, speakers, power of equipment, etc. However, I typically watch/listen to movies in the -45 to -40 settings with my wife. Any louder and she leaves the room. Alone I find -40 to -35 very commercial-movie-theater-like and on the verge of too loud. I know I am getting older at 39, but still like things very, very loud. I cant imagine you guys who are hitting the -20 to -10 range. Do I have more power then the typical HT guy out there or am I just getting soft? BTW I am running 225 in every channel via three Carver TFM-25s into a Sunfire Theater Grand IV. Speakers below in signature. Who was it that said: If it is too loud you are too old? Unrelated or maybe related question. 13. I am with you on the brilliant white. I got samples from Carada and Stewart. I was expecting to go with a gray screen...but brilliant white from Carada won out over all. A nice bonus was that it was about 1/3 the price of a Stewart even though I did not factor in price to my decision. I went with the 2:35 to 1 aspect ratio. I was on the fence about it but don't regret it at all. Way cool to watch a movie like LOTR filling the entire screen. I see more and more new releases on DVD going the 2:35 route over 1:85
  14. CP1, Thanks for the generous offer to pick up and store them...however, the more I think about it the less interested I am. I just have too much going on right now. For anyone else interested the buyer wrote me back and said he would allow for a local inspection before bidding. Typically they (ebay selling service) does not allow for that but the seller said he would bend their rules.
  15. Very slick. How do you like your Carada screen? What aspect ratio is it?
  16. Where the streets have no name - U2
  17. Cool info...thanks. I just wrote and asked the seller (selling company) if a local person could check them out first. I get back to see my parents in Detroit, MI from time to time, maybe it would work out for a MD, MI, IN, MD trip. BTW I was born and lived in the indy area till I was 10. So I know indy a bit. Frzn, I think the LS are just a little too deep for my room so am leaning toward belle in the center. kick arond the idea and let me know. Anyone else out there interested I only want one for a center so if you are interestd in splitting them perhaps it would work out.
  18. You gonna pick up and hold these for me? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5772618602&rd=1
  19. My 2001 Yukon XL has been sitting outside ever since I moved to my new house The two car garage is occupied by my other car and a John Deer 4115 tractor. Man, I am getting old I never thought I would see the day that I had too much junk to put my car in the garage...let along own a tractor. The 19 inch snapper walk behind just took too long to mow the 10 acres...damn my wife was tired after that first attempt
  20. I felt the same way Frzn did, using a DVD player for CD playback just seemed odd when I have a very nice sounding Nakamichi CD2 with Burr Brown DACs. However, my new all format playing Denon 3910 (much like the 2900) I am using for DVDs in the HT does a great job with CDs. I have heard some DVD players that just don't do music well. If you khorns are doing dual duty for HT mains and 2 channel (I think they are) consider a Denon 3910 (about $1K if you dig) or the 2900 that Frzn suggests at about 1/2 that price.
  21. Gary, alls well that ends well. Looks to be a little less heated here then in 2 channel. Side note the wife shot down the Scout for the time being. Can't complain after all I have done/bought since November. Looks like Heresy sales $$s are going for needed things like groceries or the electric bill. That woman has her priorities messed up. Fini, stop by any time. For the record my wife says I am a Jerk lots of times. I am just nice to the forum crowd, otherwise an A$$ hole. Just ask the guys I work with.
  22. Too bad bitece the khorns and heresy would have made a great front/rear HT set up. Six hours I probably would have done it11 is a bit much. For future Khorn buyers I paid 2,300 for 87 WO Khorns in darn nice shape and 85 WO Heresies in ok but no where near great shape. I would have gladly paid 2500 just for the khorns because they were the finish I wanted and close to my house. I feel if they are close enough to pick up and in good overall shape the closer you get to 2K is a good buy for the buyer the closer to 3K the better for the seller. If you score them for under 2K grab em and rundont look back. BTW, now that they are in my house and cleaned up I would not take 3K for them.
  23. THB and O, thanks for the kind words. I have now bought/sold several speakers via the forum now. Some I have shipped some I have met people along the way. Always nice to do business within the community I feel. Others THB had a lot going on as we saw from his van-cramming posts as well as a house move all while trying to get his head around his HT needs. Despite his busy schedule he made good on all his promises and is an overall nice guy. If you have the need to buy from or sell to him I would not hesitate. Thanks again, Rich
  24. Not having La Scalas I am not sure if this will help, but worth a try you will only be out your time. Before I got my Khorns I used Kg-4, Forte and Chorus. I never like them angled in 45 degrees. I got best results with them about a foot to 18 inches off of the back wall and angled slightly. No protractor or actual angle to give you but surely less then 45. Experiment a bit with different angles and distance from back wall. Let me know if this helps, hurts or no effect.
  25. Not just a hotdog...but a Weiners Circle Char cheddar dog. BTW I am not a big hotdog fan either...but these are something special. If you don't like it I will pay you the 2.50 back
