  1. My personal experiance. I have had shipped to me: 3 Academies...one damaged 2 Heresies...no damage That is 5 seperate speakers about the same size weight and one damaged. I don't think you can say they WILL be damaged. You have to assess the risk you are willing to take. I worked for UPS for 8 years. Packages get damaged daily...but a very, very small percentage. That said if it is yours that gets beat up it stings.
  2. Based on my experience I think they sell what UPS pays claims on. Surely if a claim has been paid it is because it was abused so baldy that the receiver did not want it. Most people probably think they are getting a deal when in fact they are getting broken stuff. This one comment sums it up nicely: Mislead! Broken Product! Packed in Garbage. What I get for thinking I got a deal Not that I am sticking up for the company or anything...but there are a lot of stupid people out there. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
  3. I have not priced new ones in a while, but that sounds like a fair price. I think there is a some value in knowing they brand new and that you are the first person to listen to them. Not to mention that every scratch you put on them will be yours and yours alone. That carries a lot of value in my mind. If you could see the ebay ones in person and pick them up that is a different story. Then again for 800 you can probably score a really nice pair of used Chorus if you are not married to heresy for some reason like mating with other speakers or size issues.
  4. Ooops, my bad. I was thinking the 'V' was the shielded model. I see the V goes on the end not replacing the G in KG. Sorry for any confusion.
  5. Agree with others...find more KGs and KVs. My first klipsch speakers were KG4s Fantastic. I used then as R/L mains with other brand centers (3 actually) never sounded quite right, you need something that matches sonically and sensitivity. You are on track for a great system. Good Luck, Rich
  6. Excellent idea, when I used a forte as a center between Chorus it was fantastic. All the better that you could build a custom cabinet and not feel guilty for killing off a perfecty good Forte.
  7. I have at least 5 interested people. I will sort through the email to figure out who was first and update all who emailed me. Pretty safe bet that between all of this interest they are sold. Guess I should have asked for more Just kidding I am glad they will go to a forum member and find a loving home. Thanks to all! Rich
  8. Looks like a single damaged Forte if anyone needs one to fix up or for parts. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5767584342&rd=1 This is the same company that resold my Academy that UPS damaged and paid full claim on. Looks like they are a clearing house for Klipsch speakers that UPS kills in shipping...so sad. I have no connection with seller...just passing on info
  9. Wow, imagine my suprise. That first picture looks exactly like my basement. I gotta talk to the guy who sold me the "fake" Khorns. I see now they are actually conrwalls.
  10. You will wait a while. I am thinking about being burried with them. I would probably fit better in my Khorns, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the Fortes.
  11. Thanks, I though my Fortes that I have had new since day 1 were in good shape...but these are about a close to perfect as I have ever seen. Shall I ship them to ya, or you gonna make the drive?
  12. Great food for thought on the new vs. used. It does seem a lot more prone to hidden problems then other types of gear. If I buy new online do I still have to take it some where to be "set up". If that is the case then I pretty much should by from a local dealer or learn how to set it up myself...probably don't want to teach myself that on a 500 dollar item. Thanks for the info!
  13. drag, Nice! Very entertaining and informative. Learning and laughing at the same timeyou cant beat that. Jump on over to my post: http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=63854 and tell me why I am should spend the 500+/- on the Music Hall and not 300 or less on the lower model. Also fill me in on the Pro-Ject I am interested in and a used Sota. Not trying to give you a hard time I am genuinely interested. I am going back and forth between 279 and 600. Don't want to blow 200 only to spend 600 a few months later...but don't want to spend 600 and decide vinyl is not for me...though I doubt that will happen as I am loving my loaner from GaryMD and my new cache of 100+ LPs. In the 300 to 600 dollar range is it as much the cartridge as the TT? If that is true and I going to be let down with a new 300-500 dollar TT that probably has a 50 dollar cart.? Thanks, Rich
  14. Dragonfyr, I have been looking at Music Hall 5s and it is over 600 at needle doctor. Is 500 a reasistic price to find one for new...or is that a decent used price? If that is the street price new, where? Thanks, Rich EDIT My Bad, I was looking at retail not selling price at N.Dr. /EDIT
  15. Yet to see a WRX where the top drops. I have driven one, though. A while back a WRX owner and I swapped and played a game of tag. I enjoyed the WRX but would not trade my Z3 (dead) or current Z4 for one. Nice thing about america...lots of choices, none of them wrong.
  16. I have an almost perfect pair of OO Heresy IIs I would like to sell to finance a WO pair. I have the original boxes and packing material. Located near Baltimore 1 hour from Philly 1.5 from D.C. just 10 miles from I-95 ez to pick up if you can make the trip. I paid 550 but willing to let go for 500 + actual shipping. If you want to check shipping prices my zip is 21154. I have over 5MB of pix in a zip file at the link below. Get Pix If the above link does not work cut/paste this: http://mantistech.com/klipsch/H2Pix.zip Picture DSCN2418.JPG shows that even the bottoms of the speakers have seen very little use. Picture DSCN2419.JPG shows the only flaw I could find look close about 2/3 of the way down. The small specks of white you see are styrofoam bits form the packing material. They could use some oil and that is about it. Thanks for looking, Rich
  17. I have had several people write me about the HBR H1s and OO H2s. I have a pending sale on the HBRs and still have the OOs. Thanks for the interest.
  18. I have a bose wave radio. Alarm works, clock works, plays any radio station I want it to at wake up time. For a clock radio it sounds fine for a 10 minutes traffic update. When I was building my music room and all the equipment/speakers was put away it played right along keeping me company. They do know how to market things, can't fault them for that.
  19. Ok guys, you have given me some great info so far. I like what I read about the PRO-JECT 1 Xpression. Also the Music Hall MMF-5, but it is a bit out of my budget. I did have a chat with the seller of the Sota Moonbeam (did not meet ebay reserve) he is willing to sell it for 375+31 shipping from Canada. Check it out here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5764399806&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 The Rega PL3 is still available seller says it is late 90s model in nice shape but at 300 I still need a cart. Any thoughts on these or others? Pro-Ject is tad out of budget toobut looking like I am not going to get what I want/need for 300. BTY, GaryMD lent me his Thorens. Sounds pretty good to meI am guessing that is because is has a Shure v-15 in it. From what I read that is a pretty darn good cart. Will the ones that come stock with the 300-500 dollar tables sound anywhere near that good or am I setting myself up for disappointment after my current loaner? Thanks a ton, Rich
  20. Nice floor! BTW the equipment is not so bad either
  21. I have two black Academies. One is perfect the other is close to perfect. I live north of Baltimore and would be willing to come up 95 to philly or so because they are too nice to ship and too valuable to let get distroyed. Let me know if you are interested and I can send pix and price.
  22. Shawn, sounds like you dodged a bullet with that big rig. Glad you and your family ended up safe and sound. Ill check out the link. I forgot to mention that 10 days after the accident I was so impressed with the safety of the Z3 that I took delivery of a 2005 z4. Made the step up from 2.5i to 3.0i. The z3 and z4 could not be more different cars. At first I was not all that keen on the new one preferring the retro-throw-back style of a British roadster that the z3 seemed to embody. After only a few hundred miles in the z4 I cant believe how nice and refined it is. Truly a joy to driveand ya cant beat the drop top action! Added bonus the 3.0 comes with an upgraded sound system that includes Carver amps. I love my Sunfire/Carver home equipment. Picky, you are wise beyond your years. I have had that same conversation with many, many people. My Z3 was assembled in South Carolina by US workers. It is a global economy we live in. Cars are literally made around the world. My traitor remark, while misspelled, was meant more of a joke for the Motor City types. So many of them are old school and if it did not come from the big three then you might as well be dissecting their children while still alive. I gave up even trying to breach the subject. Listen to the equipment YOU like and drive the car YOU want to drive and you cant go wrong. BTW I started off as a Mechanical Engineer at UofM, then switched my major to Computer Science after taking Thermo Dynamics 3 timesnot thermo I & IIbut Thermo I three times. I hated that class ;-) Maybe when I get up to see my parents (still live in Plymouth) I can bum an invite to the Picky HT, rumor is it sounds pretty darn good. I love the picks and the Red Wing jersey! We will invite ColterPhoto1 along too for good measure.
