  1. My bad. Timmikid, my condolences. (not Gilbert)
  2. Gilbert my condolensces. I just read this thread. Quite a lesson. For all, simply saying that we should deal with an authorized dealer would be a great answer. However, all on this forum a greatly tempted by the older, unavailable products made by Klipsch. Can't run down to our local Ultimate Electronics and pick up a new Academy! The older equipment excites us all, so the likelihood that someday we'll purchase somethin on ebay is pretty good. Anybody have any experience getting scammed on ebay when you went thru paypal?
  3. Seems a little voyueristic to merely look and not participate.
  4. I hear ya colterphoto1. almost made my hair catch on fire.
  5. My two cents are probably worth less than that. but, I'm an engineer and proficient at turning a topic into charts and graphs like this article as well as any. However, the author's conclusion in the ends doesn't tie his information to people and their ears. So, what has he done?

    DS

My two boys birthday are in November, so that's what they each got for their b-days. they love'em. they use the new ability to communicate with each other wirelessly within 30 feet or so. they play hangman together and other stuff. today, my younger boy got his first game that is made for the new DS unit.
  7. thanks. that listing wasn't obvious w/o the word academy in the title.
  8. These which amp questions are very difficult to come to a conclusion with. One can seldom have the opportunity to really do equal comparisons to one another. Even if a retail outlet has both, they might be in different rooms with different speakers. Ultimately, how do we decide. So many things go into these decisions. Which brand strikes us as the better value. Which one did a trusted recommendation come from. Seldom is it a side by side equal test that our ears get to differentiate between. Even if we do, the pre-listening biases come into play. My father grew up with a Marantz receiver when I was a teenager. A good friend had a McIntosh amp. My first receiver as a kid was Sansui. My best friend in college had Harman Kardon. Ultimately it's based upon what. Which one sounds the "best"; hell we seldom (no never) get to listen to all these power sources in the room with the speakers that we own or will own. So, how are we deciding what is best. We bring a lot of our own biases into these recommendations. Right, or have I been drinking too much tonight before I wrote this.
  9. Chemical Engineer for a very large firm, URS Corporation. Seller/doer for clients in the chemical and petrochemical industries. Live in Austin, Texas and raise two young boys, 11 and 9 years old. Nothin' better than the way my boys look up at their dad.
  10. good simple info. thanks! I'll have to store that away.
  11. Thanks cob1708 I'm assembling my HT also. I've got an academy coming now to go with my ForteIIs. To start with I'll use my KG1.5s as surrounds. I'm seriously considering harmon kardon equipment for power and DVD/CD player. I had a receiver years ago that I was always happy with. I'm researching subwoofers but just getting started. I'm trying to take my time. Maybe by Christmas I'll have a HT to enjoy. We'll see. This is leaving my Nak with speakers to drive for awhile, but hey, one thing at a time. I think more of my family will enjoy the HT more than my two channel ability that I have now. I can get more speakers for my living room later.
  12. edwardre: $107 , good snag. Of the last 3 they went for $498, $609, and $575.
  13. Anybody have experience matching Forte/Academy HT with a Harmon Kardon AVR 7000. I've got a decent size media room 22X15 with windows on one short wall and an opening on the other. I expect to use it for both music and HT.
  14. that's about right. I checked ebay probably 200 times.
  15. Talk about some seriously serious trivia!!
  16. Switching A/B between digital and vinyl. Very cool!
  17. Can you imagine playing on that concrete with a plastic pad. i don't think so.

  20. An WO Academy showed upon ebay 21 minutes before I used the "buy it now" option. I'm so excited I can barely stand it. I want to thank everyone for their input. I paid $575 for the speaker. If I hadn't had this forum to help me understand that %575 was an appropriate price, I probably would have hesitated and it take another month to find a speaker. Who's knows what I'll be contemplating next. Horns. Corns. Hersey. Maybe I'll write a greek tragedy. Nah. I'll just get a beer and listen to some stones.
  21. Sorry, didn't mean to steal your thread. just trying to inject a little humor. Amen to the trouble.
  22. and while your at it. what's your girlfriend like?
  23. uh, I'm too green to know if these speakers are the nuts? What do ya'll think? would these be perfect with pair of Forte's? damn this seems like a stupid question
  24. Ya'll are quote numbers all over the place. The ultimate shop in Austin has got some much higher numbers. Only want to come down when you want to leave with a suburban full of equipment. Doesn't work to well when you just assume add a piece now and then and constantly tweek your system. I really don't like surfin ebay all the time but when your think about just two speakers?
