  1. Geez -- In the Cage by Genesis -- there a fave-- You heard of a bans called the Watch? great Genesis/Gabriel sound alike from Italy-- How about this: A cloud appears above your head; A beam of light comes shining down on you, Shining down on you. The cloud is moving nearer still. Aurora borealis comes in view; Aurora comes in view.
  2. Ditto --Val was superb in Tombstone -- his best. This one and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang were off kilter, slightly interesting but underwhelming--I saw both on CD and ended up turning off both before they were finished-- Mamet is a master -- Ronin and the Spanish Prisoner are great ones--
  3. Scorsese's return to form? Definitely--- Gritty language, relationships, and characters fill up the screen and innovative camera angles and perspectives keep the story racing along. Jack Nicholson makes his mob boss character different than any mob boss characters you've seen before. Leo and Matt, Mark and Alec, and all the actors are convincing and most Boston accents are spot on-- The bloody end is surprising and uncompromising -- watch out. The love interest was beautiful yet her acting didn't fit the difficult role -- the only drawback of the movie to me. But she was beautiful! After seeing the movie, you realize what an achievement this movie is. The plot follows a Boston mob mole in the Boston police department and a Boston police mole in the Boston mob -- which sounds pretty convoluted, but the acting is great, the lies and deceptions are complicated, and the story is told so well that you believe that it could all happen. Its based on a book called "Infernal Affairs", but this movie is very serious and very good--

  10. That is soooo JIimi-- Is it Third Stone from the Sun? Bingo!!! How about this: I really love you baby I love what youve got Lets get together, we can Get hot
  11. Set the Contols for the Heart of the Sun-- I cheated--sorry its been a week almost! How about this: Sleight of hand and twist of fate On a bed of nails she makes me wait
  12. Foo Fighters "There is Nothing Left to Lose"-- My favorite by these guys--most people know Dave Grohl was the drummer for Nirvana, and he started FF with a similar approach as Nirvana, but less caustic. I love this one because its so darn listenable yet had little radio airplay. No big hits, just great rhythms and rock explosiveness throughout. To describe it, its would be neo-grunge with alot of melody and classic rock sound. But it has its quiet moments, too--
  13. The Who --Baba O Riley "Teenage Wasteland" How about this: So you think youre lonely Well my friend Im lonely too I want to get back to my city by the bay Hey TH fans, have you heard the live that came before Stop Making Sense--"The Name of This Band is Takling Heads" -- its a killer 2CDs and it all is great
  14. This is so not obscure --huge hit from three or four hit band--band had a proper name, but was known by three initials-- a little more: We rented a truck and a semi to go Travel down the long and winding road Look on the map I think we've been here before, Close the doors let's roll once more
  15. Great movie--so many disparate elements that work well together. The action scenes are toned down Matrix style but just as lethal, and the political and romance aspects add alot of mystery and tension. Its a futuristic thriller about a mad bomber who wants to blow up Parliament and show all of Orwellian England that their government deserves to be destroyed. Or is he really mad? He recruits a young woman during a TV station takeover to help him-- to sympathize with him? -- he tests her to dramatic effect, and she more than survives it-- The movie has elements that provoke you. The blowing up of Parliament is seen as heroic. The story seeks to justify why a terrorist should follow his dream of destruction for his cause--he is seen strapped in bombs like a suicide bomber, so its very timely. And creepy I was bothered that the government was denigrated as"conservative". But all that makes it that much more disturbing-- Natalie Portman overcomes an inconsistent English accent by playing a victim turning into a heroine--sorry, I have a hard time not enjoying every one of her scenes. She's a soulful, sympathetic little minx--God bless her. Hugo Weaving acts right through his mask and is captivating throughout. Lots of blood and knife fights--V is a force.
  16. Great neo-prog -- these guys have been at it for many years and albums in relative obscurity but improving their sound and songwriting. Buck, I would get Deadwing and see if you like them--its very good stuff. Reminds you of classic prog like Yes, Genesis, etc, with proper songs and ethereal passages of sound mixed in. But, the guitars are harder and they sound very much their own with great production values. The band is a creation of Steve Wilson, a guitar/keyboard genius who is involved in many other projects, but PT is probably his most fully realized band setting. They sound like IQ and The Flower Kings, if you've heard them--but less reverent of 70s prog. Prog gone modern. I got Deadwing (because of a previous PT thread fronted by SDog), and liked it so much I got a few others--they are all good
  17. So old its crusty -- The Weight by the Band. Levon's best vocal ever-- How about this: Cop on the corner, look he's startin' to write I don't need no ticket so I screamed out of sight, Drove so fast that my eyes can't see, Look in the mirror is he still followin' me?
  18. Its hard to get the riff out of your head once you hear this Hand of Fate by the Stones-- How about this: Somewhere out there on that horizon Out beyond the neon lights I know there must be somethin better But theres nowhere else in sight
  19. a little more for gay royalty: Steve walks warily down the street, With the brim pulled way down low Aint no sound but the sound of his feet, Machine guns ready to go Are you ready, are you ready for this Are you hanging on the edge of your seat Out of the doorway the bullets rip To the sound of the beat
  20. Stones --It's Not Easy--- wouldn't have gotten it without the hints-- How about: Steve walks warily down the street, With the brim pulled way down low you might hear this at the end of a football game--
  21. I'll jump on the Rory Gallagher bandwagon-- Funny, I hadn't gotten any of his stuff because I didn't like the samples I'd heard on a few sites. but I looked back into him because of this thread-- I downloaded both of his live albums from the early 70's, and they are both rippers. What a show this guy put on! Great blues rock riffing and vocals-- He pounds out short blues blasts and when he stretches out for the longer songs he plays evocatively-- I think his sometimes off kilter vocals in the studio turned me off before, but on these performances he is obviously pumped up and the energy in the guitar playing and his vocals is riveting-- Highly recommended--
  22. Pretty girls seem to be more important than a bunch of old guys trying to remember lyrics to songs from when they were in high school! Its still fun -- maybe the Zappa stuff and classical sheet music turned off most of our players and they dont want to waste the time to come back-- Funk 'em-- Speaking of them, how about this for a challenge: How can people have no feelings How can they ignore their friends
  23. 'sup dB-- I was in B'ham this past weekend for the AU/LSU game and seeing my sick mom-- Blood on the Tracks is the best and most classic Dylan you can get IMHO-- its got Tangled Up in Blue, and many other great songs. Sounds like he's in the room with you. You don't even have to be a Dylan fan to love it-- I also like Blonde on Blonde and the Royal Albert Hall concert half acoustic snarling and great rocking versions, too --2CDs I've had several others, and these I like the most
