  2. hello allan gary speaks highly of your knowledge when it comes to albums, i am wondering if you know anything about test pressings. i bought some albums and included in the lot was what appears to be a beatles abbey road test pressing, the song list is differant than the released version, the songs are somewhat crude deffinately not a finished version of an album, inbetween 2 of the songs there is an announcement that states (8 track to 8 track, something take 37), the label is blank white, the cover is pictured i am trying to get an idea of authinticity and value
  3. you better pull the trigger on the basis, it is a killer deal the answwer to your question about why vpi is sold more than basis by the ouners should be somewhat obvious i love my basis 1400 and the only way it will leave here is if i can find a step up in the basis line, once you have the basis and set it up correctly you will forget all about other formats of music, i havent played a cd in months and when i did last it was for my daughter to compare cd to vinyl sound. i beleive the vpi is a quality deck and was considering it when my basis came along, and as far as cartridge goes the grado referance sonata is an awsome match with the basis 1400, great detail!!!!!!! in short there is no way you get hurt with a basis 1400 at 850.00 Joe
  4. heres the deal with claims thru ups first you have to have all the packing materials that it was shipped in , next the sender has to start the claim, next ups will contact you and give you a choice 1 they take the amp with them and have it and packing materials inspected to see if it was packed properly, or they will send someone to your house to look at the amp and packing materials, if they decide the amp was packed properly they will contact the sender and ask for proof of shipment (receipt from store shipped from), and proof of value(a receipt of what it was sold for or a statement from orion bluebook will also work), they will ask the shipper if they want the full price of the insurance or the cost to repair the unit. the process takes about 4 weeks, if they decide it was poor packing they will not cover the damage, if you discarded the packing materials they will not cover damages. i have filed at least 6 claims over the last year or so and all have been paid i just had to wait them out and stay on them constant calls, and when they do pay up it will be paid to the shipper not you , so you have to hope the shipper is honest as they can fesiably ask you to return he amp before refunding your $$$$$ Joe
  5. i oun a 1400 and have had it for about 6 months and listen daily it sounds great not acrylic in any way as far as skipping with foot falls that will depend more on the house structure than the table i had a problem with that but solved that rather cheaply, i paid 1380.00 to have mine shipped and i consider mnyself lucky thats how much i love the table you are getting a great deal Joe
  6. figured out that is what one of the beatles albums i bought is , (a test press of abbey road, 1969) pretty cool Joe
  7. i have just came across some rare colored vinyl (red, white, & blue albums)beatles albums and a abbey road promo that has a blank label on the lp but the jacket has the listings with a couple songs on the lp. that didnt make it on the released version. i would like to find a place or book that i can get values on these old albums, i also have what seems to be an original john lennon & yoko ono two virgins in mint cond (the infamous nude cover complete with the brown bag) i would also be interested in finding a site that will give advice on how to tell if you have originals or fakes i have discovered some things on my oun by looking around like i know i have 2 fakes of introducing the beatles albums, thanks for any help Joe
  8. the woofers would not deteriate around the edges as many foam edge speakers do so the only reason to have them reconed would be damage (blown for what ever reason Joe
  9. dont know if all are this way but i just finished driving my belles to very uncomfortable level with van halen ill wait, my ears gave up before the belles or any other gear i employ Joe
  10. http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/fluids.html this is a link to several recipes for making your oun cleaning fluid you will save a ton of $$$$$$$$$ if you mix it up yourself joe
  11. cant answer your question directly RPLACE, but i can say this anytime i have ran across the 180 gram and up albums they have had superior quality, and mfsl is a given as far as quality goes but all that aside when it comes to paying 50.00 for a single album i would save that money get 500 togeather and buy a vpi 16 or 17(for a little more of course) and buy readily available albums and clean the heck out of them i have found that probably 90 percent of vinyl i end up with is tons better to listen to than cd, and i am more often pleased with the sound than not, for this reason alone i cant see putting 30.00 and more into a single album& i couldnt begin to tell you a first press from a 100th press, i simply enjoy the vinyl sound and try not to worry if a 180 gram would be better JMHO Joe

  13. i was in the business for the last 6 years working for myself and 15 years before that i worked for others i am now 40 and working alone (no laborer) is getting a little harder, not to mention cant get ahead seems like jobs came in spurts. i was working for a single individual the last 3 years and the pay was great but no benefits and again i am now 40. after some long hard thinking i figured with the new health issues, and no retirement, no vacation etc... and im trying to have a little one with the new lady in my life i truly needed health ins. so i was able to get a job with amtrak as a union employee in ther maint. dept, i am making near the same money and i have all the benefits (health, life, vacation, free riding policy etc...) i took a look at what the new job entails and although i know i will get bored at times (same work over and over) i will have a chance to move up in the co. and i can retire at 62 with alot better retirement than social security can give me i also have the option for 401K after a year, i just felt like this would have to be the time to settle down into 1 job and try to provide for the future, construction wouldnt allow me that oppertunity joe

  20. "running out of room yet" IVE BEEN OUT OF ROOM SO LONG I DONT KNOW WHAT ROOM IS ANYMORE., I will deffinately bring the lp's no worry there. As i dont listen to much jazz i was going to let you pick thru them, as a trade to pick thru your excess classic rock. I know the blue note and 6 eyes are somewhat sought after depending on the artist but i honestly picked these up with you and others in mind and knowing if you didnt want them i couldnt loose money. Anyway name the time almost any sat or sunday now thru august for the meet and comparisons, of the amps and vinyl as of now i am off weekends Joe
  21. worked overtime last night from 11 pm till 7 am, needless to say my arse is dragging. but had a few errands to run grocery store, bank, pay the rent etc... the bank was open but the landlords place had another 40 minutes to go so we swing into the local flea market (that i hate always the same cheap crap there for sale) today there is a fella set up across the street with what i first see some old vintage gear, so thats the first place i go, the gear is cheap crap then i spy a stash of albums maybe 400 or so i start thumbing thru and there is some nice vinyl here mostly R&B, some jazz a few other odds and ends, i pull out what looks interesting at first glance and set 43 aside come back to inspect the vinyl and start finding a few blue note and some columbia 6 eye pressings all pretty much look cared for i get a price 45.00 of course i pay very quickly, then we look around the market nothing here as usual i decide to take a chance and see what the fella will take for all the albums 85.00 he says, of course i had to buy the rest at that price. so here i am with 400 more albums tto go thru again. try to get a deal like this with cd's Joe
  22. nice to see that we still have some good old ethics in the world. i only mentioned it because i would like to see this forum stay close to what it is now a friendly place where likeminded people can come share experiences, and thoughts , as well as help each other out from time to time, again that is a nice collection of mac there Joe
  23. Thats a nice collection you have there.I have to wonder why you would bid the ones for sale up against a brother forum member? You obviously dont need another set of mc30, perhaps being fairly new on the forum you dont realize that we try to help each other out here. Not cut the others throat, so we can show we have the largest collection. I tend to think of this forum as a brotherhood of people that help, and watch out for one another. As i think many of the members here do Joe
