  5. have an appointment to go see these in the morning, seller promised to hold till i get there to see them, said they were very nice and thinks they are oak, wish me luck> Joe
  6. i just bought a basis 1400 with the rega 300, upgraded with the incognito wires and a grado referance sonata cartridge, picked it up off audiogon for under 1400 shipped and i can tell you this i have heard close to basis top TT at gary's and the 1400 definately holds its oun, i dont see any reason for me to upgrade further i am very happy with the sound reproduction all in all a great table, if i were pressed to make a complaint i would have to say it can be to good on inferior recordings so make sure you get quality albums or a very good cleaning machine, ( i also considered the scout and would have bought that if this had not came up, check a-gon there are 2 good deals on scouts right now Joe
  7. careful: going to garys house can cost you alot of money , i was and still am a tube newbie, i will say the more complete an amp is the better if you buy one, i have heard garys 299 and beleive me it is an awsome beast it kicked the hell out of my 200 wpc phase linear amps, i have since purchased a blueberry (gary has one of these also) and ordered a set of craigs vrd's, i also am using a old dynaco st 70 that needs a tuneup badly but it still sounds better than the phase gear did. lastly i would agree that it will make more since to buy a vintage scott over newer low end gear. AFTERALL I HAVE BEEN TO GARYS AND NOW IM BROKE Joe
  8. take a look at the side panels they added i dont see where they mitred them and that would cause the speakers to not seal correctly as everyone says needs to be done for good sound and the way they attached the gaudy cabinetry to the original box could be a huge problem if you wanted to take these back to original TALK ABOUT KILLING VALUE???? Joe
  9. 5775575293 this is the sale# on ebay seller wants 1250.00 for a nice pair of belles and 250 to ship anywhere in the usa thru forward air looks like a good deal Joe
  10. i have dealt on ebay for over 3 years have in excess of 500 feedback, bought and sold hundreds of items and i have always shipped items within 48 hours at the most and always notified buyers there items were shipped out and provided tracking info., i simply cant understand the since of selfimportance these people have to feel for themselves, i got my reply from the later seller " i serviced this a year ago, and want to check it to be sure everything is ok, this is how i keep my 100 percent rating", funny thing is this guy buys and sells reel to reel decks and has sold several of the teac 1000R so i pretty much know this response is B.S. joe
  11. jesus im tired of sellers that think it is ok to change the rules after you win an auction, in the last 3 days i have won 2 auctions for reel to reel decks, and the first sellr politely adds i only ship on saturdays but i want payment5 within 3 days( what the heck is tis guy thinking ) hurry up and send me the money and by the way i will ship this at my leisure, needless to say i informed this person i would pay on friday if he insists on waiting a full week to ship so he backs out and tells ebay we mutually agree not to follow thru, now last night i win a teac 1000 R and discrip says lubed, new belts, aligned, all functions checked 100 percent ready to plug and play (cool) i email asking for total response i get is , i will be doing a pre ship check up , it will take a few days i will send pics blah blah blah!!!!!!!im thinking what the hell here, so i email this person and ask hey you describe the deck as ready to go now it looks as though you sell them and then take time to work on them, i mean whats up with guys like this ? anyone know of any place to report the froudulant advertisements like this Joe
  12. only thing missing is the vrds, hurry up craig Joe hope you know im joking craig Joe
  13. well the fiancee (priscilla) got on me this morning and said hey you clean this crap up, when you get off work today. so there we go disconnect everything move it all to the floor dust and oil the shelf vacume the floor and move the scalas reposistion them hook up all the gear and wipe all down, and now with the new set up of the scalas on the short wall the sound is tons better i know everyone says the more space apart the better but not in my room huge presence now soundstage is even better, bass is unbeleiveable, currently listening to tracy chapman audiophile grade album on the basis and grado ref. sonata, MMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAANNNNN WHAT A SOUND, guess i oue pris a big ole hug and kiss for helping me clean up and move all the gear Joe
  14. hey there marty, i say you put on some jonathan edwards, sunshine. and follow that up with a little elo telephone line, and if you really want to hear those corns sing try some floyd dark side, that is 1 awsome system you have there CONGRATS Joe
  15. if you are getting them around 1500 for the pair grab them joe
  16. there is a sonic benefit to using isolation on a turntable, you get away from all the feedback caused by vibration in the floor, walls and in the air. i use a concrete paver sold at almost any home improvement store and seperate that using 5 racquet balls setting on furniture cups(gliders used under the feet to aid in movement or to prevent damage to wood or tile floors), all of wich sets on a shelf mounted to the wall. it isnt pretty but it works Joe

  18. well lets see i am mainly waiting on craig to get the vrd,s out, i have the blueberry, the basis tt, my nakamichi rx 505, marantz model 125 tuner. but still running everything off the dynaco st 70(its an old original unit that is in desperate need of a tune up) the blueberry really made things quiet helped tons as far as background noise (hiss or humming) the sound is still very nice even with the old dynaco, i will probably send the dynaco to craig for a complete makeover and keep it for a second system in the future the tubes make a heck of a differance from solid state that i sold off to start this project i just wish i had a better room for soundstage but that will come a little later i guess so what would you need to make a dust cover as far as measurements etc..., and an estimated cost would also be a good thing Joe
  19. i sold 2 pair of cornwalls in order to keep my la scalas, and upgrade my system, and the cabinets on both pair of cornwalls were much nicer than the la scalas, but i chose to keep the scalas! DOES THIS TELL YOU SOMETHING?, the la scala blows the corns away, and the bass goes plenty low enough for most listening, and i dont know what anyone can mean by muddied mids these things just put out awsome sound JMHO. Joe
  20. i know i have seen a couple threads in the past where a forum member makes dust covers for turntables anyone know who i am speaking of PLEASE Joe
  21. "HERNIA", good one craig, not sure how amtrack would like that new hiree calls in says hey guess what UUMMM i was moving my speakers and pulled a man berry, could you maybe excuse me a few weeks. i know its short notice but you understand right? i had 2 pair of cornies and recently sold both to afford the new upgrades, i like the scalas a little better, i will put on a berry supporter and back brace and attempt the move wish me luck Joe
  22. thanks to all of you for your ideas, i will try some of these and see where it gets me Joe
