  1. Thanks Doc. Will investigate. I guess that should be "subwhopper."
  2. Hello All, I usually post on the HT thread since that's what I'm trying to assemble, but thought I'd ask here. I read the basic sub question thread, but was a little overwhelmed. Just purshased my first avr, a Pioneer VSX 1014, to power my KLF 20s and the used KLF-C7 I found here(thanks redtop). I am looking for a sub for mostly home theater, but will be giving 5.1 music a chance. My apologies to the 2-channel forum. It seems all agree on the ...Dayton Titanic? Does the enclosure come with that or is it extra? Other than aesthetics, what are the benefits of building your own enclosure? I have a large living room that adjoins/is the dining room, with a partition seperating the two. Also a vaulted ceiling. Total area is about 21ft by 22ft, with the ceiling going from 8ft to about 11ft at the peak. There is a hallway going off one side in an "L" shape to the sleeping area (3). I guess this is called a "bass trap." I have also seen mention here of SVS subs. As far as cost, maybe in the $800 range, w/ a max of $1000. If I could find something that would work for $500, that would be great. Still gotta buy surrounds. I thank you in advance for your responses.
  3. OK. How I do that? Installing, I mean. I think I can call Klipsch. Maybe...
  4. Hey! That's a lard stand! Well, ...in North Carolina it is anyway...
  5. Going to use KLFs for HT. Any problem putting the KLF-C7 under the TV and the -20s beside it?
  6. As in Robert Randolph & The Family Band? Smokin'! Check out "Unclassified" &/or "live at the wetlands." Great band!
  7. I had thought about a projector, but surround placement for this arrangement would be difficult. Either directly beside/over the sitting area, or behind the partition on one side. It's a shorter viewing distance also. Also there are 2 windows and a sliding glass door that face east and let in much light until late in the day. I'm working on treatments to soften the light from these, but totally darkening them would make it appear I had an indoor-grow operation! To view the screen the long way would put it in front of the windows and fireplace or a foyer and hall the other way. The house has a unique floor plan. Great for parties, hard to design/build a surround system for. I may possibly build in the next few years and will probably design a dedicated room(s) for HT. I want some Khorns! Thanks for the post though!
  8. Great review. I sat on the front row, center at an outside concert of Jerry Douglas and his band this summer. Simply phenomenol(sp?)!! Alison's voice is one of the most beautiful I have ever heard. Hope I get to hear it live one day. Thanks for an inspirational message.
  9. OK, the video interconnects, what do I need? TV will accept S-video and component, I think. Do I need both to run from the DVD? Have some Monster for audio out of the TV that I bought when I was young and stupid. A couple years ago! LOL! Guess I can use em for something...RCA plugs I think.
  10. I agree that the subs often invade your neighbors. If you really must have one.....move to a house. Don't know what state or city you're in, or country for that matter, but the new bass lines in popular music and HT can cost you money if there are local ordinances. (Commonly called noise ordinances.) Most cities and towns have them. Especially near ritzy neighborhoods and colleges. (So the town folks have a way of shutting down the all night parties.) Where I live (and work) the officer doesn't even have to take a meter reading. If he can hear it outside your apt or from your neighbors, "that'll be $50,please." Some of these fines are civil, meaning they can't be appealed(taken to court). If you don't pay, it's turned over to a collection agency. That can affect your credit. Enough complaints to your landlord about loud noise can also get you evicted. Another thing to affect your credit. Read the fine print of your lease. And I don't recommend arguing with law enforcement when they knock on your door. Don't give them a reason to take away your freedom. There is a Common Law in some states for Breach of the Peace. An arrestable offense.(in NC) He, or she, for that matter, can make it up as they go. The ones that go in front of a judge can REALLY cost ya. Not saying I agree with all of this, but that's the way it is.
  11. Um, nice set-up, but the stand interests me. What kind is it? And do you know the height between the top and second shelves? Thanks
  12. Thanks Steve. Don't know how I'm gonna wait for the AVR and player. Should get a lot of work done! Had read something somewhere on Bluejean Cables. Have seen some recommend shielded and some unshielded. Any advice????? Any other screen recommendations? .. Tanks...
  13. Thanks Gil. I also have a co-worker who recently purchased a Samsung 53", I think. Will defintely be looking at those.
  14. Hello all, And thanks for all the advice so far. Have received my center (KLF-C7) and ordered my AVR (Pioneer VSX 1014TX-K, w/ a DV-578A), all to go with my KLF-20s. Should I invest in whires (that's the way it's said in eastern NC...) and cables, or use what comes with the units. I hope... What are ya'll using? (yeah, eastern NC agin) Have a 32" 5 year old JVC TV and gonna look at a larger/better screen next, before surrounds and sub. My viewing area is .....hard to explain. One large room with a partial partition seperating part of the kitchen from the living room(theater). Oh, also has a vaulted ceiling. Yep, probably gonna need a BIG sub. Anyhoo, I'm accepting suggestions for TVs. Something with a wide viewing area. I'm thinking in the 3 grand range, but may go to 5 if it'll be worth it. Haven't done much research and sort of dread it since there's SO much out there now. I thank you in advance for your information. Your vast knowledge amazes me. (That laying it on thick enough?) Tanks!

  23. Does anyone have either or both of these receivers? How do they perform for HT and 2-channel? I am aware that the Arcam is considerably more than the Elite and doesn't have an onboard calibration system. The dealer I found highly recommended the Arcam over the Elite for 2-channel. Thanks.
  24. Anyone willing to part with a KLF-C7 center &/or a good starter receiver? "Moving on up..." Thanks (already checking ebay and audiogon)
  25. Jennifer, Welcome from another "newbie." Would like to thank you for starting a lively discussion that has taught me much also. Started researching for a home theater system here on the Forum in Dec. and haven't slept since and am about to be fired from my job! Keep it up folks...
