thanks guys, I have gone back to using the Quartets with a KLF-C7 center for this smaller HT setup...no money out of pocket...I was just looking for information on the proper or designed to be a match Center for RB-5s as Mains.
I realize there are at least two schools of thought on what makes a Center match or if that is really even important or if it is better to just get the best sounding Center I can find...
My main HT set up is three Heresys across the front and this was a secondary system mostly used for TV and the occasional DVD...

I did try that with th RB-5s...perhaps a touch more detail but may have been the placebo effect...the Panasonic has quite a bit more power that my little Nak SR-2A...
i use use the digital connections with the Panasonic too...

tried the RB-5s with an EICO HF-81 Tube set up and I don't like the EICO with the RB-5s (or at least not as much) as I like the EICO with Quartets...similarly, I prefer the Nakamichi Phono Section with the RB-5s than I did with kg2s or Quartets...

interestingly to me is that the EICO HF-81 Phono Section sounds better on my Quartets than it does with my RB-5s...conversely the Nakamichi Phono Section sounds better to my ears with the RB-5s than it does with the Quartets...

that does change it a bit...I did a cursory look for the RC-7 and found $500 was the area I was finding them in...

you could then experiment with kg4s across the front for a more seamless sound...

I appreciate the responses...it seems that the RC-7 would be a great center but I think the added expense may not be worth it for me...since the RC-3 was the center designed to compliment the RB-5s (when used in a Home Theater) that will probably be the route I go unless I switch up the left and right Mains and use my KLF-C7...

IIRC the RF-5 uses something from the RF-7 (horn, lens ???) that I do not believe the RB-5 uses...but that's why I'm asking here...would like to zero in on the answer...thanks guys so far for the input

is the proper Center for RB-5s an RC-3???...I'd bet a single RB-5 would be best...thoughts, opinions would be appreciated.

sonically another Cornwall would be best for Center duty...a Heresy (not a ll or lll) might be next and an Academy next...
The kg line is different and the KSF different still...
I have 3 Heresys across the front for my HT and like it best followed by a KSF-C7 or Academy...

I think the Quartet has more in common with the Forte ll/Chorus ll rather than the Forte and Chorus despite not getting the "ll" designation...TracTrix don'cha know...

mine is Tube'd exactly as this one was when set up to his preference (Amperex 7308s) and I believe I bought mine from his estate VIA eBay (unbeknownst to me at the time)

...so add in the engineering updates done by someone who has been at Klipsch since the days of PWK and the fact that you (as well as I) "updated/upgraded" out quartets with Titanium tweeter diaphragms ( in itself an engineering upgrade and I think the Forte lll has them in the tweeter AND the midrange) and the probable larger soundstage of the Forte lll over even our quartets or my Chorus lls and that may tip the balance in favor of the Forte llls...

The only thing I can relay to you is that I've had Quartets with updated Crites crossovers and titanium tweeter diaphragms for many years...And I love the sound they reproduce be they hooked to tubes, SS or digital power...
that said, I also have a pair of Chorus lls that have had the same Crites updates...they sound larger and better than the Quartets...
if if all you have are your Quartets...you have an excellent set of speakers...but there is more out there...is it worth the price to step up???...only you can answer that...

just listening to my EICO HF-81 phono section for the first time...I am such an idiot...
years ago, Craig at NOSValves rebuilt my EICO HF-81 integrated amplifier that I bought from Daddy Dee...I seem to recall Craig asking me something about if I wanted something done to the phono section but a TT was less important to me...years pass and I have an interest in listening to my records from back when...
Having sold off other electronics that would allow me to use a TT my younger brother stepped up and let me use an unloved Nakamichi SR-2A STASIS receiver to give it a whirl again...it's been okay in this regard but the Nad needs some love to get back in spec...then it hit me...the EICO upstairs has a phono section I've never used or tried...
Unhooked the EICO and took it downstairs, hooked up my Technics SL-1300 with a Shure VF-15 Type lll...grounded the TT to the EICO chassis and...it's not bad, in fact quite good...and it is better than the aged NAK...
I think I always thought since I had told Craig the Phono section was not important to me that it might not be even connected...don't know why I did but there it is...
I just thought I'd share...seems to be something we used to do more of on this Forum...

...anyone shuffle speakers between their music systems???...I do from time to time...today I decided to take a pair of Klipsch RB-5s that are bi-wired and bi-amped out from a system run by one of the Panasonic digital receivers set up for stereo...(SA-XR55)...
I had this system set up to try to hear the differences that bi-wiring and bi-amping might make to my listening experience...I felt like I heard the tiniest of volume bump and a bit more detail but not enough to proclaim "A New Beginning"
I recently found myself without any stereo with the ability to play my old vinyl records and was able to re-acquire a somewhat neglected Nakamichi SR-2...cleaned the pots with DeOxit (highly recommend THIS product after several false starts with other brands failing) and listened through updated (Bob Crites crossover rebuilds and Titanium tweeter diaphragms) kg2s I bought in 1987 or so...
I decided to switch the kg2s with my RB-5s...90.5 dB to 96dB efficiency and a decade between manufacture...
the RB-5s sound very clean with the Nakamichi...listening to vinyl...lots of detail...I listened to the same album with the kg2s and then the RB-5s...the RB-5s sound more detailed (despite the kgs sounding fine) and of course louder at the same volume steering because of the efficiency...
Just now listening to some Pink Floyd The Endless River and they are sounding sweet as well...I'm guessing the higher power of the Panasonic 100wpc trumps the more modest 30wpc...

this receiver sounds great with Klipsch Heritage, extended Heritage and even with RB-5s...GLWS a nice price on a very nice receiver...

you'll spend a little more buying the crossovers already done from Bob Crites but I have no talent to do the changes myself...however, installing the new crossovers is not tough at all and within a short amount of time you are up and listening and hearing things you have been missing for some time I predict...

perhaps I can add a little something to this...I am the original owner of a pair of kg2s from 1989...within the last year I bought from Bob Crites new crossovers (I believe I am the first to buy a set for kg2s from him) along with a pair of Titanium tweeter diaphragms that I have had from him for a couple years...
The Titanium tweeter diaphragms do a nice update in their own right for the highs with theses speakers and the new crossovers make the kg2 a really nice speaker...
If you want to buy something new, I would never steer you away from that but for a few hundred (much less if you start with just the Titanium tweeter diaphragms) you will bring your kg2s back to better than new.

Buick 455ci V8s ruined me for other cars...Dad had a '73 Limited (don't call it an Electra 225
) and Mom had a 1974 LeSabre both with this engine...long past the 455ci Stage 1 era but still had plenty of torque...
I eventually got the LeSabre and it easily sat 6 plus and got 12 mpg on the highway and 10 around town...
Both of those cars by the way had no problem spinning the tires...
I had not heard of the Max Trac before Davis so thanks for that!
