  1. Heck they way Ryan and Craig are always going at each other I figured they were brothers or.. the same guy with a split personallity
  2. Those are some nice looking speakers, Is Klipsch going to build them or are they just a dream of PWK? Since I suspose I should buy a pair of Khorns first then plan on the upgrade to the Jubilee. Yea, I would probably buy a pair.
  3. heh, The moderators job is one of those that when things are good Moderators get ignored and never noticed. Its not till all hell breaks loose are moderators noticed and then they are branded the badguy! Anyway, Cudo's to you Amy, your doing a fine job russling this pack of wild audiophillies.
  4. DAMN!!!! those look sweet. Ah but Im broke too bad, its only an hours drive from me! Since one of the members here were kind enough to pickup and hold some speakers for me I would be willing to pick them up and hold them for anyone on this board that wins them, until you can arrange pickup. I dont' blame the guy for not wanting to ship those monsters. I've got just the spot to store them in. John
  5. I've got two pairs, thats enough Cornwall for me! BUT I think I could find a use for a pair Klipschorns
  6. ---------------- The interviewer, Dave, says "The Klipschorn was designed for the days of mono, and it simply doesn't image." Ok, so I don't own a pair of Klipschorns, and I have only listened to a pair briefly at Chris Robinson's home several months ago. Do Klipschorn's Image or not?
  7. Now those are some nice looking amps. Of course after seeing them I took a look at Welborne Labs and find that the Moondog kits are no longer being sold Ah well, I guess I will just have to squirrel away some dough and snag a pair off Audiogon sometime.
  8. Colin, I didn't know you were in Florida, I get down West Palm way now and then, Usually for SCUBA. Next time I'll set something up.
  9. TCB, if you want to get the vault sent my way then I would have no issues shipping my Cornwalls to you. I'd make it worth your while to see them in the hands of a forum member.
  10. Well, since my Cornwall verticals have arrived the other pair have been sitting in a spare room gathering dust, so I think I will offer them up to you guys. The pair for sale are Burch Raw, Very clean. one water ring on the top of one and a nick on another. I will try and take pictures this evening. Im not crazy about shipping but If someone wants to have the vault sent to me then I would have no problems shipping them. Im located in Orlando FL, BTW..
  11. Thats one sweet looking receiver, I wish I had the cash I'd take that in a heart beat.
  12. I switch between my HK430 and my scotts amp on my CW's all the time. I'd love to go to this shindig but... taking time off is out of the question for now.

I've suspected for a while now that the only real difference with these amps is that SET just opens up faster. Push-pulls sound better when you put a little juice into them. Things don't really sweeten up over here until I hit about 90db, and at 10 o'clock at night, I just really don't want to listen that loud. I've actually been listening to my Advents quite a bit, and with the QUADs they open up pretty quick. The Advents are relatively inefficient, so I need to turn the QUADs up quite a bit more than usual to get any sound out of them. I think the differences are overstated, and each will shine when you get them running into the tube's sweet spot. I think maybe SET just happens to sound sweeter sooner. Naturally, this "Barbarian" doesn't expect SET to do Peter Frampton at concert level, uhh, at least not the way the QUADs do Peter Frampton at concert level. Dee has made a very kind offer to let me borrow his Wrights -- and I'm looking forward to some very nice late night listening. I have no intention of cranking them with Led Zeppelin. What I mainly want to do is spend some time with them, and test out my theory: What I will really be doing is comparing the Wrights and the QUADs at LOW volumes. ---------------- Dean, thats the best response you've written in quite awhile.

Of course, my bedroom is far too small so when i moved in I had to put my system in our main room. Wich wasn't really a problem because, believe it or not, I'm always happy to share "my good sound" with other people. The problem is: they really don't give a sh** about Hi-Fi. They're more than happy (well, the girl is) to have a very LOUD system so everytime we have a party my Scalas awake the whole neighbourhood; but tell them about SOUND? The sadest thing is that the guy is actually a musician! And most of the times he just listens to some low quality MP3 jazz tunes he picked up on the net, at a playback level a cheap kitchen radio would be happy to push out! Only with movies on DVD do they show a little more enthousiasm. But all that is OK. they're not forced to like good sound. What is really scary is, indeed, the level of damage "not-into-hi-fi-people" are able to do to your system. I stopped asking them to let the amp switched on, or in "standby". finding the remote is too hard for them. They prefer to switch it on and off and then on again by pressing the main button on the fascia. I try not to ask them everyday to use the remote rather than the main knob to adjust the level when they're eating something greasy or sticky. I have to clean my new amp's fascia every week to remove sticky fingerprints. I tried to explain them it's not a good idea to unplug a source when the system is ON. I had to argue and argue to make them understand WHY i didn't want the Scalas to move BEHIND the sofa (that battle is won ) I had to forget about the idea of using a Class A amp after my Musical Fidelity A100X almost burned (hopefully my new NAD sounds better!) I have to be the "annoying guy" who screams on everyone trying to put his beer on the amp during a party. I still find some CD covers lying on the amp's breathing grill when I come back from work. everyone thinks I'm a maniac. I lost my dad's 35 Y/old Sansui amp after they managed (how???) to destroy the volume control (blocked!!! ) I had to repair my Nordost interconnect because the girl pulled on it. I have bad dreams of me coming back home and seeing fire coming out of my tweeters... maybe I'm crazy. One day I'll be rich. One day I'll live alone with my system. ---------------- This is the reason I live alone!
  15. Those girls had better be smoking hot! cause if they had done that to my speakers, They would have found the door locks changed and their stuff sitting in the hall.
  16. DOH! ok, I posted some info incorrectly, the ZEN Amps are a pair of SE84B models that have been modded for use as a monoblocks.
  17. Ok, This might sound dumb But im gonna ask this because I can't seem to find the info, I've got a HK 430 receiver which has these pinch type connectors for speaker wires, RCA connectors for the sources. I've got a pair of monoblock Zen Amps that have blade connectors from the amp to the speakers and RCA connectors for the interconnects. Last but not least the Cornwalls can use blades. I have found speaker wires that have blades on both ends from the amps to the speakers, But I'm not sure how to connect the amps to the receiver? amps have RCA, The receiver has ??? Now to really confuse myself, my Scott LK72 has blade speaker connects! Now what the?? another set of cables?? So my questions are, 1: this the correct series of events, source to receiver, receiver to amp, amp to speakers?? 2: What are the connections called on the HK430 for the speakers? and what type of connector do I use for them? 3: Who makes interconnects that go from RCA to whatever the HK430 has? 4: Who makes interconnects that go from blade to whatever the HK430 has? This is more confusing than trying to figure out the correct SCSI cable to order for our company's servers. There is only about 10 different SCSI standards now and almost invariably a drive and card will be from different standards. heh, So now I get to wade through the marketing bull of interconnects. and what the heck is a "Fast Newbie" and who put me on the fast track?
  18. Hmm, went back and took a look at ChrisK's decorator Cornwalls I just might have a go at doing them in cherry, ChrisK if your out there what kind of stain was used on those?? John
  19. I thought about staining them cherry, but the one small thing that bothers me with the way they were made is that you can see the side edges of the plywood on the front face (did that make sense)? which IMO takes away from a "finished" look.
  20. Ok guys, I need your help, I finally moved into my new home, got my living room unpacked and the stereo up. and have been testing my neighbors patience with my cornwalls. I would really like to finish my cornwalls but im very undecided as to what method to use. They are in very good shape and I could get away with just doing the linseed oil treatment, BUT.. Ever since Greg went and posts those beautiful rosewood Khorns pictures I have not stopped drooling. Most of my furniture in the living room is a dark cherry finish and Im thinking those decorator cornwalls would look very nice finished in the rosewood (as long as they look as red as the pictures he posted) ah what to do, what to do so this is where your help comes in??? Do I use the rosewood or would another type of wood veneer be better?
  21. Greg, is that a better image of what those rosewood Khorns look like after you finished them? That is not anywhere near as red as the previous pictures. I kinda like the red look. That picture of the Rosewood Khorns really makes them look red, and I think that's one of the main things that makes that picture look so great. Greg ----------------
  22. As a Texan myself thats the one place I try to get to when I go out that way for vacation. I managed to trace a distant relative to the battle at Alamo, I plan on seeing it this week sometime. Im glad someone finally did it justice.
  23. LOL, like the guy who pushed those CW verticals up into the $1500 range on me PS. dave I finally received the LK72 from Craig just the other day, The unit looks very nice sitting between my CW verticals! Thanks! Now I've got to go out and get a nice set of interconnects and better speaker wire.
