  1. I have bought many items through Ubid. Never had a problem. One item was damaged when I got it and they took it back with no problem. Your experience was not the kind of thing that will build confidence in ubid. I hope they get their act fixed. If I were you - and if you want what you won the bid on... I'd keep pushing and make a pest out of myself. Good Luck.
  2. Congradulations DLUngurait on being the proud owner of a pair of LaScala speakers. I hope you enjoy them. I know I did.
  3. I must say this is quite a discussion. I like home theater and I also like 2 channel depending on my mood. However previously I owned a sony 925 reciever - I thought is sounded ok but was missing some dynamics. The dynamics it missed made it so it only sounded decent when using some synthasized surround mode. I later learned this was due to a not too fantastic amp. When I switched to a Newcastle 2 channel sudennly sounded real good. For that matter, 5.1 and prologic even sounded much better. The synthasized surround modes really sounded poor in comparison. The point is that if you listen with good electronics, good speakers and in the mode that the creator or mixer of the music intended - it usually sounds great. Using modes that change the room artificially makes it sound worse. It was really amazing to me that dolby digital through a really good amp sounded better than dts through a cheap amp. I guess I should not have been surprised. Nifty tricks can't make up for quality. That's my humble opinion.
  4. To each his own said the little old lady as she kissed the cow.f> I am often amazed at what I hear when I finally go to someone's home to hear a stereo system they have been bragging about. Sometimes I think the ears get used to sound comming from little limited boxes - and after a while anything that sounds live sounds bad. Sometimes people put unrealistic and strange demands on a stereo. What does rotating the darn speaker have to do with how it really sounds in your home listening environment? Gee, try that with a khorn. If you can't rotate the corner of the room you have a big problem. Rather than apply weird, silly, and usless standards to testing speakers I'd rather trust my own ears and listen to it at different volumes, from different sources and with different types of music. What sounds closest to live wins. To me, Kilpsch sounds more live than anything else but live itself. I don't care what the eggheads at consumer reports think!
  5. Oh good, I will have to go check out the plantation store to hear them. Just a note - A store manager once told me that the manager has flexability to accomidate trade ups without the boxes and even past a year. He did that when I traded in a pair of klipsch speakers I had for 18 months - without the boxes - when I bought a new pair that was twice as much. Gave me all I paid as credit for the new stuf. Negotiate. Ask nicely. Know you have options to buy elsewhere. If they want your business - and I think they do - they will be reasonable. If not go elsewhere. There are some dealers I won't do business with.
  6. I remember getting into troubble at college wearing a nice yellow Klipschirt with "Bullshit" printed in bold letters on its back. I wore that shirt until it was falling apart. I'd love another one of those.
  7. You live in Palm Beach county? Hi neighbor to the north. Isn't one of the largest Klipsch dealers here Sound Advice? If you bought it there they take speakers back for a year after you bought them and give you full value paid for an upgrade. If you did buy at sound Advice complain to the corporate headquarters - its just in your back yard. If you bought somewhere else - I know some students at the University of Miami who may want to buy your speakers. I'll check with them. Gee, your dealer is a real piece of work. I would shove that HDTV where the sun doesn't shine. Talk about wierd dealers - since I gave such a nice plug to Sound Advice... I must balance it with my experience just last week. I went in to hear a rf-7 they didn't have one. But the salesman told me he thought Klipsch had only been in business a coupple of years. - He said I should get B&W! Its tough to find knowledgable salesmen and good dealers.
  8. Yes. I think too many sub-woofers. But then, how big is the room?
  9. Ahh yes guys, I feel that I am at least doing my part to reduce the list of suckers. Why what list? you may ask. Well the list of satisfied ahem... Bose owners. A co-worker last week told me he was missing a day of work for his new tv and audio system to be delivered. I took the bait and asked what he was getting. Nice big screen projection tv and ahem, Acustomass. I congradulated him on his tv and then suggested that he play some music on his Bose (that he spent $1600 on) listen carefully at different volumes then come over to my house for a listen. He did. Needless to say we have a convert. The Acustomass went back to the store. He then went to the local Klipsch dealer to buy the good stuf. The salesman tried to sell him B&W. This guy was so confused... He called me from the store and asked what to do. I asked one simple question. Why would you pay more for less? But if you must believe the salesman over me go ahead buy em as long as you can take em back. He did. He came to my place. We plugged them in to my system side by side with the LaScala. With the first switch I said "told you so." The B&W went right back to the store. The salesman got an ear full. And another well informed Klipsch lover was born. Ok guys, here's the challenge. See how many you can convert this week!
  10. Lets see, noles vs canes (state champs - should a been national champs except for bcs pole strangeness) Tempting bet but I would hate to take advantage of a neighbor. If you are interested I am shure I could help you find a home for your kg3.5 - I know of two college kids looking for used klipsch that fit their budgets. At any rate, If you want them I will help you slip them past your wife. Mabee if you painted them nole dark red - she may like them a whole lot. Seriously, if you want to hear them call me. I am in the middle of a major interior painting and redo of the house, so if you don't mind the mess you are welcome to come and listen.
  11. I have a pair of 10.5s - before I bought them I did a side by side comparison with the RF-3 and found that for my ears the 10.5 was better. I think, however its a matter of personal taste. The 10.5 seemed livlier to me while the RF-3 seemed a little "muddy" by comparison. I use an RC-3 center because I couldn't find the exact match at the time. I really love that RC-3 center. For that matter I love all the klipsch speakers I have crammed into my living spaces. Enjoy.
  12. I used to use heavy duty lamp cord from home depot. It worked fine. It was also cheap and available in any lengths you choose. I later switched to monster cable. The difference is very slight - that is, if there is any difference at all!!!
  13. I feel "blessed" to have such nice speakers in my house. I love the open and dynamic sound of the herritage speakers. Well, with that I figure if anyone really wants La Scala speakers I have a pair that my wife demands I sell. If you want to see them it is posted under the 2 channel audio section under khorns. Why under khorns you may ask? Because at first the wife was demanding I sell my khorn babies. Now I have talked her into the La Scallas. Oh the sacrafices we make for love.
  14. To each his own said the little old lady as she kissed the cow. I just had to put my two cents here. I loved the Matrix. I could barely sit through the Moulin Rougue. It was one of the worst things I have ever seen. The music was ok but the plot was a joke - and the way they messed up songs!!! I take it back... The music was not really ok. Oh well, I am glad you enjoyed it. I would have walked out if my daughter wasn't with me. But then, I never was one to like chick flicks or wierd musicals.
  15. Ok, if this worked there should be two photos attached one of each of the La Scala speakers. You can see what shape they are in. I will give you guys a few days and if nobody wants them I will put it on ebay.
  16. Yes, it is difficult to get rid of something as nice as khorns. I can't bring myself to do it. But - to keep the wife happy I am going to get rid of the La Scalas They are black sound fantastic. The only problem with them is that they are physically knicked up and could use some major refinishing. So, if you don't care how they look. The first $700.00 that picks em up near Ft. Lauderdale gets em. I will try to take a photo so you can see what they look like
  17. Orlando is about 200 miles north of here. I am near Ft. Lauderdale. I will post more information and photos soon - most likely friday. Right now I am crazy busy with work stuff. I gotta pay for my Klipsch habit somehow. Be back soon.
  18. Ahh yes, this review really proves the point that you can't trust everything you read. I expect that if this reviewer heard a live performance he would give it the same review. After all, Klipsch sounds more like live than any other speaker I have ever heard. For that matter, I doubt he bothered to listen to them. Trust your ears not the opinions of others.
  19. Ahh yes lets see, Not counting the center channel speaker and the subwoofer - I have a vintage pair of shorthorns a pair of LaScala a pair of ksf10.5 and the khorns. My wife is complaining that the place hase become a speaker warehouse. I can't get rid of the shorthorns because there is too much history attached to them. The LaScala for fronts with the shorthorns as rear speakers is a wonderful sound. In my townhouse (I am glad I am not my own neighbor) the khorns are overkill. I have been considering selling everything and using the $$ for a Klipsch speaker system that my wife would find more visually appealing. Hmm, mabee I should sell the wife instead?
  20. Darn, I don't have corners for my horns any more. Anybody want to buy a pair of khorns in mint condition? There in South Florida. Price? Gee I don't know what's fair?
  21. I agree that doing the comparison without a sub with the KLF30s is not a "fair" test. The "feel" of each is totally different. Its not really a matter of which is better - but more a matter of which you like the most.
  22. I am happy your ears are pleased. They will deffinately be more pleased when you get the matching center channel speaker. Enjoy.
  23. Yes Dave, That one was for you! What's the BCS know anyway? Their darn computers are jammed with hanging chads. I hope for an Oklahoma loss and a Canes Noles rematch for the National Championship. Oh there goes that darn rap stuff again. Really bad music - how about anything by Bary Manalow. Yech.
  24. Oh gee, now this is an interesting one. There are songs you guys mention that I actually liked once. One sound I never ever liked is rap. Anything rap - to me it isn't music. Another sound I never ever liked is that fake indian chopping moan Florida State fans make. Canes Rule. Ahh but to each his own said the little old lady as she kissed the cow. I see said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw.
  25. Ahh yes, I remember Capt'n Bob's strange speakers in the college dorm room. He had them driven by nice Marantz tube amps - now that should make up for the strange speakers with the unusual curved cut plywood fronts. Capt'N Bob was with me when I replaced my worst speakers with a pair of Heresy jems. I sold a pair of KLH speakers with 8"woofers to another college friend, got the Klipsch and never looked back. That was in 1971. Funny thing is - the guy I sold the KLH to still has them and still uses them as his main speakers. Mabee they wern't so bad after all... But then I wouldn't give you 2 cents for today's KLH junk.
