I bought mine at Saturday's Audio in Chicago but there is a place right on the state line in between Chicago and Milwaukee that is a Marantz reciever heaven. Small store, wall to wall Marantz, some other stuff and vinyl. I was impressed at the pristine condition of most of the Marantz recievers. ..................Vintage Marantz and H/K bring back memories.................

I picked up a Marantz 3600 pre-amp about a month ago and I cannot get over how good it sounds. I've always been fond of the Marantz sound in the past but this is the first time hearing one with Klipsch speakers. I remember the Marantz recievers having a rich sound but not neccesarily very refined. That is not the case running it with ma-700's, Jolida JD100 and RB-75's............it is so clean very desirable to listen to. This pre is 34 years old and all the knobs and levers are solid and tight, no slop in them whatsoever. I am "pro" tone controls and this is part of the reason why I like the sound so much. I'm not in favor of the eq to boost anything, in fact just the opposite, just to be able to turn the mids down a notch or two and the treble at "0" or maybe up one notch. The bass at "0". Running a pre-amp flat is usually boring to me so I like to tweak it, just a little. Anyone still using any of the vintage Marantz pre-amps or recievers? I'd be happy to hear some experiences, especially now that I know how good they sound with Klipsch. Thanks, Scott.

Have you tried it that way? Good results? What kind of spikes? I've never taken the plastic feet off of mine. The 7's are on carpet, maybe I should consider it? I'd rather take the feet off and get something DIY from the hardware store than pay those kind of prices.

I got a chance to hear this sub yesterday at a local dealer in Chicago. It is everything I would want in a sub. I just wish I had brought some of my own cd's that I'm familiar with. Music sounded great but the most flattering thing was how well it filled up the room on movies. For a "smallish" sub, it packs a pretty good punch. I would compare it to my LF-10 on steroids.

I run a Denon 3805 with Crown XTI's and the sound is awesome. I've recently been doing blind tests with a JM Peach ll and a Marantz 3600 pre-amps (excellent two-channel pre's) and the 3805 is right there. I manually adjust the eq for music and it gives me the sound that I want. I own two Denon recievers and without quality amps they sound dry and stale to me. They're excellent for movies on their own, very clean and detailed.............but with quality amplification music gets the same results. Also, RF-7's need a lot more power than the reciever can put out to make them come alive.

Re-phrase................(2) RSW-15's and (1) SVS PB-12 Ultra/2 VS. One Epic Conquest................. This is what I'm running right now with four RF-7's............serious nuts, very impressive. Will the Conquest best the SVS-RSW combo? Say it isn't so................

Yeah, the HT Bypass feature comes in real handy.

Just hooked up the XTI's to the Peach and it sounds awesome!! Like they were meant to be together. The XLS's were just not compatible for some reason....?

RF-7's and no hiss whatsoever. The XLS's had an edgy, less natural sound to them. The 500 wpc definitely woke up the 7's. I liked the XLS's but they're not in the same league as the XTI's sound wise.

Interesting............about six months ago I was doing the same thing only I was using Crown XLS-802's with the Peach ll. In low-z mode or hi-z the sound was less than desirable. Hooked up the Peach to a tube amp upstairs and you can't get me out of there!! Last week I got rid of the XLS's and replaced them with XTI's. I think I'll try the XTI's with the Peach.

Since I'm using my XTI's with a home audio pre-amp, I contacted Crown and they told me to make the impedances jive together I would have to have the pre-amp volumes at least +5db to make the amps work. I did just that and it worked but I settled at +9db. Test tones at -8db.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing. A home audio pre with pro-amps. Of course I "may need a cleanbox" but if I'm not having any noise or output issues what would justify implementing a cleanbox other than having a totally balanced signal?I'm using RCA to XLR cables (HOSA brand). From the reading that I've done it seems that the main reason guys are getting the cleanbox is to eliminate noise issues. I have none, hence my question. Will a totally balanced signal be that much audibly cleaner-louder?

You definitely need to juice uo the RF-7's to get your money's worth. 500 wpc from a pro-amp will, without a doubt, put a grin on your face for two-channel listening and won't break the bank!! (Crown XTI-2000 for $625)

If I'm not experiencing any kind of noise or lack of output from my pro-amps do I really need a type of converter to go from RCA to XLR? Other than being balanced all the way through, what other benefits will it give me? The speaker volumes on my pre are at +9db and the test tones are at -8db. With what you described in your music tastes, after you get an XTI 2000, you'll be getting two more RF-7's!!! Concert dvd's.........sweet.

Plissken, you're on the right track. You'll be amazed at what an XTI 2000 will do for your 7's compared to just the 3806.

Hmmmm...........The Garage Sale might just have two RSW-15's for sale in the very near future.........perfect condition, two years old, black, one owner (me). Need to look more into the Epic, though. The RSW-15's are no slouches but if the Conquest is all the hype, might have to consider it.

Interesting.............I found out recently that Epic's office/factory is only 30 minutes from my house. I think I'll call them and see if it's possible to get a listen. It's hard not to notice all the attention the Conquest and the ED subs have been getting lately.

What do ya think? Which will perform better for music/movies?

Where can you get an XTI 2000 for $450? My guess, unless it is used, is that he may mean the XTi 1000. Yeah, I got my 2000's for $625 each. The best deal I found locally by $80.00. Trading in my XLS's to get two more..........never ends.(insert smily face)

The LF-10 is the cleanest sub in my house. Sound quality is superb for music.........not a lot of output compared to the big guys but works great for a small room not opened to the rest of the house or an apartment. I paid $600 about four years ago and I'd snag another one in a heartbeat for under $500. I'm using one in my bedroom with my two-channel system, 15x19............sweet.

You wouldn't bother with the settings or removing the passive networks? Like in the other thread, I'm not touching the passive networks.
