  1. Anyone know of a way to get any of the old Dope from Hope newsletters? I've only been able to find one of them, and was wondering if there's a good collection somewhere as .PDF (or other) files. Would be great if they were posted on this site, but this does not seem to be the case.
  2. I've had a few of these messages for eBay items. I normally reply that I'd be more than happy to accept their Cashier's check, but that shipment of the merchandise will be delayed until confirmation from my bank that the check has cleared. Except for one individual in Canada (who was quite real), I've never gotten a response back after making this point.
  3. For $3699, one could come up with something a whole lot better than that. It looks like a combination of a PC, and a clock/radio.
  4. Can't say that I have any of her music, but I found this charming picture. Believe it or not, the reference to a garden tool appears to be one of her songs. You can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl.
  5. Let's see now. My Ebonics skills are certainly lacking, but perhaps "hollaback" can be broken down into it's root meaning. "Back" seems to refer to ones butt (i.e. "Baby's got back"), and "holla" seems to be a butchered form of "holler" (i.e. to yell or make noise). So this seems to imply some kind of noise that eminates from the butt. I think this song is about a girl with a bad case of gas!

After waiting a year for one to show up, I just picked up a Wyetech Opal preamp on Audiogon last night. The new pre, and a pair of '77 Cornwall CDBR's I'm having refinished should be a nice upgrade.
  7. Something does not pass the smell test here. Can't tell for sure, but those drivers appear to have rubber surrounds. Did they manufacture drivers like that in the 50's or 60's?
  8. Back when I was young, I used to plug my Ovation Preacher into my 80W/Ch Kenwood integrated driving JBL studio monitors. Bought a cheap little 1/4" to dual RCA adapter at Radio Shack, and it worked great until I got a proper guitar amp (over a year later). Keep the volume sane, and you'll be just fine.
  9. Oh lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz... And help out someone who needs it, while you're at it.
  10. Sorry Joe, missed this post so I posted the same thing. Sure wish these would have shown up a couple weeks ago (before I paid $250 to ship a pair!).
  11. Looks like a nice pair at a decent price. Right here.

I may pay in the long run? ---------------- Congrats of the Decorator Heresys. I've got a pair of '76 models, and they sound so good it convinced me to buy '77 Cornwalls. I think ANY shipping is a roll of the dice. According to Andy, Decorators are the toughest cabinets they made. My Decorator Heresys and Cornwalls have survived FedEx and UPS respectively. I had UPS damage a new pair of Heresy II's (MDF) a few years back. The boxes showed no external damage, but several corners of both speakers were crushed, and the factory foam box inserts were in pieces.
  13. Try these guys. All kinds of material in small quantity. Works best if you have high speed, and can download the catalog as a .PDF file. Apparently it's another name for the same place Mark suggested. Anyway, I know they've got screen in a variety of materials.

Please if you see them in southern california. I would like them. Like I said my b-day is june 27th and im turning 15. They already are getting me hk 430 and I cant wait to get my first pair of klipsch speakers. I have the audiophile bug bad. Thanks So Much ---------------- Time to hone your mooching skills, and go for a nice tube amp. Tell 'em you'll wait another year to start driving, if they'll buy you a Mac 240 (with the money they'll save on insurance). When the time comes to get your license, you'll know what to do. Just use the magic phrase "... so I can get a job", and you'll be good to go. Of course, there's always the trump card "I'll stay here and do my first 2 years at Junior College." Save that one for something really good.
  15. Thanks for the comments. This is a hard decision. Do I keep them original, or do I pry off that trim and go for the finished wood look. Guess it depends on how easily the trim comes off. Same for the old finish. I'll check out the woofers. The center caps and wide band of glue look similar to my '76 Heresys. Guess I'm not alone regarding the shipping expense. If they make it safely, that's good enough. I'm pretty sure I've seen the pair that everyone is talking about. Kind of a reddish stained finish. I'd be REAL happy if mine ended up looking like that.

They are flush to the rear of cabinet and set back the same distance sides and front. Four metal 'sliders' were used to expedite movement across the factory floor. Some notes from Andy and others indicate that in later years the Decorators became more and more elaborate as users asked for certain options to become standard. Mitered corners, grilles, etc might have been some of these options. Good find, glad someone here got them. Are all drivers in good shape? Michael ---------------- Thanks for the riser info. I've been through many of Andy's posts, and it would appear that these parts were available as options - I'm just trying to determine if mine were done at the factory. As soon as they arrive, they're getting stripped and refinished. I'd like to restore them, so if they're not original, the grilles are gone. Hope the drivers are good. If not, my '76 HDBB's might have to cough up a donor organ.
  17. Picked up these Cornwalls on eBay (and really took it in the shorts on shipping). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has opinions on the authenticity of the pictured risers & grilles. I believe they're 1977 models, based on the "R" in the serial number. The CDBR would have been unfinished. I'm wondering if someone added the grilles & risers or if these were factory installed? Maybe one of you with an eye for detail can tell.
  18. If anyone that's within driving distance of Newport, RI wants that Heresy, I'll be in VA Beach on vacation next week.

All he told me was that is going to re-list the item.... I am going to try again sometime soon, but I am pretty upset with the situation right now. Also, I don't use the quintets at all anymore. I have my 2 channel system that I use daily. The HT gets used maybe once every 2 weeks if that. Best, George ---------------- Post his E-mail address. Perhaps some "polite" reminders of his obligations as a seller will bring him around.
  20. Erik, I'm really glad you decided not to go for that Moth before I did... it's still the best deal I've received on a piece of audio gear. I continue to look at the "digital" amps. Will probably just pick up a cheap one for the time being. I'm not hung up on the quality of the enclosure, or tube vs. SS. If it sounds good, it is good - especially at these prices. Did you build some kind of box to get a bridged center channel? Thought I remembered you posting something along these lines, but sure can't seem to find it now. Think it was a Klipsch design from a long time ago.
  21. Looks like they're back. Wonder if negative feedback will be exchanged for the buyer's failure to cough up >800 bucks?
