  1. Ken, Stick to a Heresy II if your choice is to match all three front speakers, as there is a difference between the Heresy and the Heresy II. As an option, but a bit smaller, with a good timbre match and less expensive than the Academy is the KLF C-7 center. I've used one with my Heresy II's for HT and my brother has A/B'd the Academy and C-7 in his HT with Heresys and he says he can't tell the difference. I've not listened to NAD gear for quite a while, but the ones I did listen to were very "transparent" even though that term gets thrown around way too much. Good Luck with your choices.
  2. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier, what DrWho says is basically how I set up by S-5's for rear channels. I have a 12' wide room and they are centered on omnimounts 18" from the side walls and 6" down from the ceiling and they are pointed down a few degrees until I found their "sweet spot". Hope this helps, good luck with your set up. Bob
  3. Ok, Silversport you gotta get a life......As for "putting a tiger in your tank" that was an ESSO gasoline commercial of the 1960's (showing my age again) unless of course you are refering the the 1999 Lemont Cranston Album....ha ha!
  4. We can still use "whatchamacallit" ! At least until the next guy with $5 and some time to fill out the paperwork takes that one away from us......
  5. For comparison pricing, also try www.wildwestelectronics.net for authorized Furman products.
  6. Dr Who- I'll have to keep that idea in reserve, no sure da' boss wants anything else attached to her walls! Appreciate the thought, though. Bob
  7. Thanks Indy! And my momma said I wouldn't need that blankie any more! HA HA HA! I'll try to post photos as soon as I'm done, both here and in the HT post your Theater forum so everyone can see the fruits of their labor. Bob
  8. No NHL, Scriven and the others have the right idea, tape it and be done, it's cheap, it works, and it's No B---S---! Good Luck with your set up, let us know how it sounds. To the rest of you, ok, I'm the Geneva part of your equation and traffic still stinks! For Scriven...."Were you a DOOPER, Class of 1975 per chance?" Bob
  9. texxas guy, Thanks for asking the question! The answers you are getting are helping me also. And dragonfyr, jacksonbart and dodger, thanks for pointing us in the right direction, that's what this forum is all about. Best of luck with your HT and music set-up!
  10. Thanks Michael, This is a free standing unit of solid oiled walnut, no plywood or MDF, with the option of removing the cabinet rears if necessary. They were made custom by a local company who does this type of set-up around the world (I just got lucky to stumble on to them) but just testing the shelving I can see a vibration problem if I don't isolate the bottoms of the Heresy II cabinets, and I will watch for the boomy bass and seriously consider lining the inside of the cabinetry if I need to. Appreciate your experience. Bob
  11. Dodger- Thanks for the info, currently still in the set-up stage, I was trying to get a "leg-up" on everything before committing to the final placement and wiring. As always I appreciate your input. Bob
  12. Ok, I can only surmise that: a- I'm in the wrong part of the Forum for an answer b- No one has ever placed speakers inside of an entertainment center this way before or c- I've somehow offended the sensibilities and good taste of the Gods of the Audiophiles In any event, while I had hoped to learn from others, I will proceed with my own trial and error and if anything I learn is helpful to someone else contemplating this type of set-up, they need only ask. Thanks RW
  13. Thanks for the parts list, keep us up to date on upgrades as this is a "to do list" project for me. By the way, anyone see these cases? Thoughts? http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_info.php/pName/uneed-x15e-htpc-case-with-lcd-touchscreen-black
  14. Tom, Glad it made you laugh! As for getting your skills from your dad, I think that sentiment goes for most of us, luckily for me I have two brothers who picked up on all of those things I missed. One picked up the woodworking skills, one the automotive skills, me.......well we're not quite sure yet, but I'm working on it. As for the "mistakes thread" great idea, I could probably fill quite a bit of it all by myself!
  15. Very nice bracket! Wish I was that adept with tools, but I'm more the measure twice, cut once, call for a carpenter who knows what they are doing type. If I ever get lucky enough for a rear set of Heresys, your brackets look like just the deal to mount them. Good luck with yout set-up!
  16. Going, Going.........going to E-Bay. Thanks to those who e-mailed or PM'd with questions.
  17. Ok, I know under normal circumstances placing a speaker inside of a cabinet is not the best idea, however that was the compromise (read, WAF) for getting a custom entertainment center built and putting the finishing(?) touches to both my home theater and 2-Channel systems. Now that I have gone and done it, I am looking for your experiences or suggestions on properly placing my Heresy II's inside of column cabinets and my KLF C-7 in a cabinet over the projection TV. Anyone use sorbothane pads or feet under their speakers? Use any sound deadening materials for reflection problems (minimized I hope due to sealed speaker cabinets)or other pitfalls I should be aware of? I should also say that the cabinets have doors which have been routed out to form integral speaker grills to avoid secondary vibration. Thanks
  18. Steve, Hopefully you have received the complete description and photos. Let me know if you have any interest.
  19. For translations try babelfish.altavista.com, copy the url you want translated and the languages you are using and the site will be translated, my wife uses it frenquently for Japanese to English as she buys collectables only available in the far east. Good Luck. Found WBT connectors at PartsExpress.com and Ramelectronics.net
  20. Da' Boss says I can no longer use the spare bedroom as a storage facility, so....I have the following Acurus Home Theater items for sale: ACT 3/Original model, No ABM upgrade A-100 A100X3 All are in near mint condition as they were only used about 18 months prior to repacking and storage. All have original double boxes and paperwork, the ACT 3 remote still has the plastic cling covering on it. If you are interested, drop me either an e-mail or a PM, and pictures are available. Thanks
  21. I've used a Nak TA-2 for use with my Heresy II's since 1990 with beautiful sound and plenty of power even though the TA-2 is conservatively rated at only 55 WPC. E-Bay has several TA's and SR's on currently, including both a SR-4 and a TA-4. The TA-4 rated at 100 WPC is well respected and sought after, and only recently did our local dealer sell theirs after using it as their reference for testing for many years against high end components. Currently my brother (Silversport) is using TA-2's to power both a Heresy set-up and his recently upgraded Khorn's. He also has an SR-2 for his "garage" so there must be something to the "Nak-sound". I like Nak so well, that over the years I've been upgrading to their separates as you can see from my current set-up. Best of luck.

  23. I was able to look at the site you posted, they look in fine condition and the price appears to be excellent! I had looked at these as a rear surround for my Heresy II's when they first came out but they were too expensive for me at that time, and subsequently I decided to go with KSF-S5's instead. (mounted to the rear and slightly above the listening area, as I too am unable to use the side walls for mounting) Seeing as how you are unable to side-mount them (to take advantage of their refelctive capabilities) you may wish to try to listen to them positioned sideways (speakers aimed parallel to wall rather than directly toward listening area) to see if they will achieve the proper surround reflection. While made for a THX system, they were recommended to me by dealer as a fair match for Heresy II speakers used in a home theater. Also, if you were able to locate a pair of KSF-S5's you may wish to take a listen to see if they would be a better fit for your situation, as they have paired up nicely in my home theater for several years. Best of luck with your decision.
  24. Great Pics, Very nice set-up, great to see another Nak/Heresy combination!
  25. Sorry to hear about the lack of an answer, but I agree, the search was fun!
