  1. I just bought David Crosby's new box set (Voyage). Some previously unreleased stuff. It seems to me that his talent and fame came with a price. With my wife waiting for a liver transplant David's experiance hits pretty close to the bone. Hep C is a terrible thing. Back then we didnt know what we didnt know. I remember a 1960's poster warning that Pot was the assasin of youth and could lead to the needle. A warning that many didnt heed. I hope the Children dont make the same mistake.
  2. Stephen Stills rides in comfort. Nice bus but it doesnt have a 1950 Hudson Hornet roof line like Neil Young's bus.
  3. Yup, Thats the guy. Kenny passarelli.
  4. I got to see Steven Stills last night. Outdoor concert at the Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca N.Y.. Weather was perfect. I has fortunate enough to be right up in the front. What a great guitarist. I caught another one of his personalized guitar picks. I got hit with one last summer in Pittsburgh Pa. That makes 2 for my collection. Chad Cromwell on keyboards, Joe Vitale on drums, and some Italian guy on bass.
  5. There was a pair of black lascalas with original boxes on Albany N.Y. craigslist. Not sur if they are still there but they probably are. The guy has been trying to sell them for a long time. I spoke with him on the phone last fall and he said he wanted 1000.00 firm for them. I will see if I can find his phone number.
  6. It does boil down to personal taste. I owned a Pioneer sx-1010 before I got into Marantz and to this day I think it has the best tuner section of any receiver I ever owned. I had a Sansui 9090DB that was a super sounding receiver. I really liked the power meters but I didnt think it was quite as pretty as a Marantz 2325. Thats the great thing about this hobby. Something for everyone's tastes. My stuff is no better than or worse than anyone elses and I didnt mean to come off like I was trying to impose my tastes on anyone else. The La scalas are going to sound great on any of these big receivers. The thing I am conflicted over is which of Klipsch I like the best. I guess you have to consider K-Horns in a catagory all by them selves. La scala or Cornwall? thats the real question! If you could fit a 400 horn in a cornwall cabinet I think that really would be something.
  7. I have listened to both the sx-1250 and sx-1280, To my ears they don't sound near as good as a Marantz 2325. I posted a pic of a few of my Marantz 2325's. I used to run 2 pairs of La scalas with a Marantz 2325. The sound was out of this world. In my opinion the Marantz 2325 is the best of the best. I use the 2325 for my K- Horns, La scalas, Cornwalls, and Heresy's. I recently bought an unopened NOS Marantz 2325. I have more 2325's than I actually need. All my 2325's are 9.9 to 10 condition. All with original boxes and manuals. You can probably find one for alot less than what I would have to get for any of mine. Last week I had my la scalas set up outdoors while I was putting on a new roof. It was just like being at a concert.
  8. My Neil Young collection wouldn't be complete without this live performance of "Helpless" with Joni Mitchell.
  9. Congrats, Not to ask a stupid question but can you request that all 4 Cornwalls have sequential serial numbers or do you have to take what they give you? My guess is they don't have any in inventory and you have to wait until they have enough orders to set up for a cornwall run. will you be able to get heresy's in matching cherry? My situation is such that I could never buy new but if I could, I don't know I would be able to get through the 12 week wait. I really hope that it doesnt turn out to be more than 12 weeks. Hope if you put them in the basement that you get them up off the floor incase of flooding.
  10. My hats off to those that have stopped and stayed stopped. I have maintained continious sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous for over 19 years. In AA there is stopping and there is staying stopped. The differance between a heavy drinker and an Alcoholic is a heavy drinker given a good enough reason can stop, stay stopped, and be happy about it. The alcoholic always drinks again because he is restless, irratable, and discontent without alcohol. He can't accept life on lifes terms and it drives him back to that elussive effect of alcohol. Ok, back to smoking. To date, I have never had an honest desire to stay stopped. I have had a desire to not spend money on smoking. I have had a desire to be able to breath again. I was obsessed with smoking from age 10 to age 12. At age 12 I started smoking. In 1976 I was in a motorcycle induced coma for a week. when I came to I was a non cigerette smoker. I kept up the non smoking until 1982. My lungs never really got a break because I was smoking pot every day for those 6 years. During those 6 years I went from 190lbs to 250lbs. I got sick of being fat and went back to 2.5 packs of marlboro red's and the 60 lbs. fell off in 2 months. In 1990 I had the same kind of pneumonia that killed Jim Henson of the Muppets. a very rare type that has a 65% fatility rate. With a 106.7 degree temp I went into a coma. They read me my last rights. After 9 days of being in a freon suit the fever broke and I opened my eyes. It was a miracle. The doctors had never seen anyone survive that high a fever before. When I came to I was a non smoker again. I had quit smoking pot 2 years earlier and I stayed off cigerettes for the next year. The pneumonia really took a toll on me. Took me 5 months to have enough strength to walk to the bathroom. It left me with a damaged valve in my heart from blood backing up from my lungs. Before the pneumonia I was strong as a bull. I could work 18 hours a day every day and never felt tired or weak. They told me that if I got back half my strength I would be lucky. I think working in a toxic chemical plant for 20 years took its toll to. I may have gotten back 1/2 my strength but no more. The first cigerette I smoked I got so light headed I almost feel down. I liked the light headed feeling, It was a one time deal though, After the first cigerette it was right back to 2 packs a day. The last time I quit I did it without being in a coma. It was just after my wife was diagnosed with Hepitus C and advanced cirrois. The good doctors told her that if she quit smoking the interfron treatment would have a better chance at beating back the hep C virus. She decided to try quitting and I decided to quit with her. She used the patch to quit. I knew I would only get addicted to the patch so I quit cold turkey. the interferon treatment was a 48 week ordeal. She responded to the treatment in the beginning but in the 6th week the virus escaped and came raging back. My wife finished the 48 week treatment but couldnt beat the virus. All you can do is knock it back for awile. It comes back 100% of the time. To date there is no cure for Hep C or cirrois. I stayed off cigerettes for 11 months and 26 days. I am not really sure why I went back to cigerettes but I think it was a combination of factors. Deep down I think that it doesnt make a differance whether I smoke or not. With toxic chemical and asbestos exposure my lungs are beyond repair. I am never going to feel good again whether I smoke or not. It is not a matter of lack of will power, I got plenty of that. lack of self esteem may figure into the mix. I was happy with not smoking for the first 3 months. When I found out that my wifes interfron treatment had failed and that her only hope was a liver transplant I was in a very low place. I put a good face on it as to not have her feel any worse than she did already. Up until that time I wasnt fighting cigerettes. Most days I never gave it a thought. With my wifes illness, Lung cancer taking my AA sponsor, then my dad dying. I got very angry at GOD. The mental obsession for cigerettes came back. Every day I was fighting whether to smoke or not to smoke. I thought if I went to more AA meetings and accepted life on lifes terms it would pass but it didn't. I let go of my resentment at GOD and accepted that it was all part of the master plan and nothing happens by mistake.I got down on my knees and asked for forgiveness. the obssession was lifted. The next week went smoothly. My wife and I paid off our mortgage and went out to dinner to celebrate. After dinner I smoked the first cigerette. My only regret is that my wife started smoking again shortly there after. It's a baffling riddle. By the grace of GOD I continue to have a desire not to drink. I look forward to celebrating my 20th year of sobriety. I hope my wife is able to celebrate her 16th year of sobriety. Some of you may think Ive got my excuses lined up to continue smoking. Its not a matter of excuses. I think its that I don't have the required desire. Like I said, my hat is off to all those that have stayed stopped. As for me, maybe tomorrow.
  11. I've had time to evaluate my new K-horns (1977). I am glad to say that I don't feel a need to get a tube set up. To my ears the Marantz 2325 makes them sound as good if not better than the previous owners tube set up. The Marantz 2325 receiver has a tone mode feature. It has positions for out, in, 250hz,4 khz, 250 hz/4khz. In the out position it by passes the bass, mid, and treble contols. This is suppose to be the actual sound of the music. I like the out position. My wife thinks the mid and high are a little to bright with tone mode in the "out" position.. She likes the mid and treble at 11oclocK and bass at 1 oclk with tone mode "in". It is my understanding that 12 oclk with tone mode "in" is the same as tone mode "out" position. The K-Horns do not really come alive until volume control is at 9:30. No listeners fatigue at all for me. I am just happy as a pig in $h!t with the K-Horns.
  12. I was chopping down a palm tree when a friend dropped by to ask if I would feel less lonely if he helped me swing the axe. I said, "No, it's not a case of being lonely we have here. I've been working on this palm tree for 87 years. He said " go get lost" and walked toward his Cadillac. I chopped down the palm tree and it landed on his back.
  13. Do you still want the k 701 horns and k 53 drivers that I was going to send you?
  14. I don't think so. I can still feel the bass in the floor 10 feet away. Its really hard to tell because now I have the seams sealed with pipe insulation. I like the bass better than the La scalas. Not so much in my face. It seems to fill the whole room. I can't image how a set of these would sound in a perfect room. its probably as good as it is going to get for me. Main reason for the pedistal was to protect them from the wifes vacuum cleaner.
  15. I built false corners to seal bass bins. I wanted to be able to adjust position so I put caster wheels on them. I really wanted to seal the bass bins like "Indy" did but I couldnt bring myself to put screws in my K horns. I am no carpenter but I am well pleased with how they came out. The K Horns sound most excellant with my Marantz 2325.
  16. Thank you for all the information. I just got my K Horns 2 days ago and I can't get my horns tight into the corners. I picked up the false corners from the seller and they make quite a differance. They are made of 2 x 4's and dry wall. They are very ugly and dont come close to making a tight seal. I think I will build a base with castor wheels so I can move them around. My thought is to attack 3/4 plywood to the base to seal the bins. I dont really want to put screws into my K horns but I havent ruled it out. I was very impressed with how Indy sealed his up. I have to give this a very hard think before I do anything.
  17. Thanks Mike, I've been wanting to give you a call but with you working a 9 to 5 Its always to late when I think of it. Hope all is well with you.
  18. The seller was driving them with a tube amp set up. I had never seen K horns up close before. Had never heard a tube amp before either. They sounded out of this world on his tube amp. He had them pushed up against false corners he built. I am going back tonight to pick up the false corners. Getting the K Horns changes every thing for me. The seller took my Toronto La scalas in on trade towards the K Horns. I am going to be listing my 1982 raw birch la scalas on Ebay along with a pair of unfinished raw birch heresy's. I am keeping my Chicago La Scalas and my Cornwalls. I can't believe how big these K Horns are. The best thing about them is the wife likes them. I have to hurry and get glass cut for the tops. They sound pretty good on my Marantz 2325. I am seriously considering tube set up but I don't know even where to begin.
  19. A pair of K horns on Audiogon in Marcellus N.Y. 1977 model. sequential serial numbers. I went and listened to them. They blew me away. I fit both of them in the back of my Camry wagon. They made it safely to my living room. I can't believe I got K Horns.
  20. Never knew PWK's birthday was on march 9th. My AA sobriety date is march 9th. Inside AA we refer to our sobtiety date as our AA birthday. The PWK signed la scalas must be meant to be in my listening room. picking them up Wed.
  21. The raw birch la scalas are beautiful pieces of furnature. I like them alot more than the la scala II's. The pair I picked up last week in Toronto have the AL networks also. The pair in Micigan have the older AA.
  22. WOW, Those are beauty's. Did you go north or south to get those? I hope the ones I am picking up in Ann Arbor Mi. are as nice.
