  1. oh jeez, another freakin Democrat with nothing better to do. Post on some CBS/Dan Rather forum, you'll have more support.
  2. A pretty good movie and has some really good LFEs. The wife rented it the other night and we watched it around 10:30. Oh my, I'll bet the neighbors thought it was storming outside.
  3. Now THAT'S a network my friend!!!!! I have to get a pair of those for sure!
  4. just a bunch of yuppie, keep up with the jones' people in debt up to their eyeballs around here. The only reason we stay there is because of the elementary school. It is arguably in the best District in the state and is considered the best elementary school in the District AND it is about a 5 minute walk via sidewalk from our house. Don't worry! When Catherine is in middle school we're moving, probably out to Prosperity or Newberry on Lake Murray.......down a dirt road! If I don't have to move back to Charleston or Hilton Head, that is. Now, back to the Scalas. I can't believe how much output these speakers are capable of. With all the other Klipsch lines I have with somewhat similar efficiency ratings, these things are king. The Legends and Reference must not be as efficient as the ratings say. I have never experienced the output vs input ratio of the LaScalas. They are truly amazing. I don't know how you could possibly turn your system up more than a quarter throttle with all that power. I can finally see why a very good 30 watt tube amp is all you need for 2 channel listening. Before I never believed it.
  5. Sounds like "new suburbia" in "metropolitan you name it," where the rules are written so we can't tell each other apart. I bet you pay alot of money in HOA dues for this sort of Stalinism, too. Blast 'em with your Scalas! [] Yes, we pay a modest $900 per annum for the priviledge of being subjected to such nonsense. I want to create a true room in the garage with a combination of some nice Peachtree or Pella fixed and operable glass doors/windows but it is on hold pending review of the ARB. So, when I work out, I can open the garage door and eliminate the nasty reflections AND ruin the HOA President's dinner all at the same time.
  6. Willy: Hunt and I did manage to get them in my Suburban without you......just barely though. Another coat of lacquer and they wouldn't have made it. No, I don't have cool neighbors...not like that anyway. Now if you you're into making sure that no cars are parked on the street, sidewalks are edged, trash cans are brought back up immediately after trash pickup, kid's toys are not left out overnight, not allowing overnight guests to have access to the pool without a homeowner, etc etc etc....then ya, they're WAY cool. And I'm not out of control, I'm just very enthusiastic. I'm going to sell something just to prove it. Chris: Thanks for the tip on the networks. I think the room they're in now may be a tad hot, since the big metal door of my garage is not acoustically ideal. Oh well, it is one hell of a system to work out to even with that little issue. They will be inside one of these days. They sound way too good to be relegated to the exercise room. As big as they are, it's going to take a little finesse to convince the wife they need to be inside.
  7. any idea of what they cost? Isn't there something like "standard" or steep slope(or something like that)?
  8. LaScalas to be exact. I picked up a nice pair today in Charleston for what I feel was a good price (Thanks Hunt). Hunt is a great guy who, at 25 really seems to have his stuff together. Anyway, I hooked them up as soon as I got home to a Technics SA 700 receiver I scored on Ebay and Sony CD player and wow. It goes without saying that the sound is totally different from my Legend and Reference set ups. Very nice sound. I'm really happy to have a pair of these and look forward to tweaking them a bit. They are 1980 vintage w/ AA networks. Any suggestions on networks?
  9. Hey quoting my own post , How lame is that ? Seriously both have their strong points , and the Belles are also WAY more upgradable than the Corns . Anyone dissagree with that ? As far as the bass subject , true I wish my Belles dug deeper . But after I get over my annual tax crunch time I will be getting either a Velodyne HGS 18 , or the DD 18 if I can get a DD18 under $2,500 that is . Bass problem solved in a big way . The Belles are a PA speaker . True they are a refined PA speaker , so what ? And as far as looks go , have any of you seen a Belle and a La Scala next to each other ? I have , and wow , what a differance a small design change provide . Allright , I'm done with my mini rant so in closing I'll leave you with this little thought . In '86 I purchased a pair of speakers with better bass response than anything Klipsch has ever produced for $600 a pair . Cerwin Vega [] from the old circuit city on Rivers?
  10. lol, the sub-12 is a great sub for the money, but there is no way in the world it can touch the RSW-12, RSW15, or KW-120. And to which velodyne were you comparing? As far as I know, there are only 3 velodyne lines with 15" drivers and I know the DD and HGS series are amongst the top out there... Anyone have a link to the Nousaine subwoofer comparison chart? It hasn't been updated in a while, but a lot of the subs in question are on it. They have a DLS 5000 or something like that that has a 15" woofer for around $700. I was looking at the 12" version at one time.. they are pretty good subs from what I understand but I held out for the RSW 15
  11. OK, cool. Last night I actually read the manual carefully and found when the processor is set to Ultra in the SW set up I get sub action. I do have the single LFE output split into both inputs on the sub though. Are you suggesting I do not do this? I actually think that splitting that is ok and even desired. I don't know if that's right but I do know this.........the RSW 15 is one mean sub. I mean, the Martin Logan is a fine sub, excellent even but this monster is nasty.
  12. Here's the thing, and maybe I don't fully understand what the Ref 50 will do. As it is now, when listening to music in Stereo 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 mode, I get no subwoofer help at all through the LFE output. I did get sub help when it was wired to both LFE and main channel pre-out (as the ML instructions said to do) before, just now I am short the dedicated dual inputs. Incidentally, my old KSW 150 has the same dual inputs and works the same way as the ML. I do have the RSW wyed into the R L inputs from the LFE now. It just simply doesn't give me squat unless there is program material from the .1 channel. MAybe I have to do something with the pre-amp setting. SO: Does anyone know how to get the LFE to output when in 2 channel mode and listening to 2 channel music from a B & K Reference 50? Thanks in advance. Billy
  13. so what, just wye in both the output from the pre amp and the LFE output? That seems like a rig to me. Somehow that just doesn't seem right.
  14. I bought mine at Audio Warehouse in Beaufort, SC for $1200.00.....It was out of the box on display but they packed it up with all the original packing. I bet they have another one. I know for a fact they have a RSW 12 in black for $900. If you want I could go by there next week for you.
  15. Score a tweeter/midrange/crossover for a klf 20 or 30 and you will have the ulitmate center for your system. Not that the KLF 10 is shabby at all, but you would then have perfectly matched speakers. I built one when you bought the very parts of which you speak before I could!!!! Yes, I remember those parts!! I was so mad at myself for falling asleep at the wheel on those things that I bought all new drivers and crossover and built a KLF 20 center. Congrats on your Legends. I absolutely love mine.
  16. There's only a L & R input. My Martin Logan has LFE In and 2 channel in so that it works in 2 channel mode (music) AND for movies (LFE) So what's the deal? I guess it's one or the other. Does anyone know another way to get both?
  17. Hey Chris, You may already know this but Play has the THX system set up in a really nice room and they guys are always willing to let you have a listen. They are over off Hwy 46 in Kitty's Crossing next to Giuseppi's. Billy Wasn't aware of that ... went over to Custom AV and couldn't get anyone to talk to me. Maybe I'll swing by there this week. Thanks for the tip. They're big into B & W and M & K at CAV and I too have had problems getting someone to talk to me. The owner (Sandy) used to run the Bluffton Audio Warehouse...it was actually some sort of joint venture between AW and her that didn't work out. I bought my KLF 30s from her in '96. But the guys at Play are very friendly and the THX system is outstanding. Go give it a listen. Billy Hey Billy - How you know so much about AW and CAV and such?? You live near Chris & I??? BTW....I've heard from reliable folks (the tech's/installers at AW in Beaufort) that if you don't walk into CAV ready to drop $30K you might as well just forget going in there. Tom Well I lived down there for a few years and we still have an office in Bluffton. I go there once a week or so. In fact, I bought a rsw 15 from the Beaufort AW yesterday and, as I posted in a previous thread last night, your name came up when one of the guys said they had a customer in Savannah with really cool heresys. I asked if it was you and they said yes! Small world. The funny thing about CAV is that Sandy, the owner, used to be really down to earth but something happened to her. I was in there one day and asked to speak to her just to say hi and maybe buy something but she was too busy. Oh well. We also work on ft stewart, looks like not too far from you.
  18. Well, first of all, the "upstairs" is actually a big bonus room and that's where everything began. The "downstairs" is the living room and is more of a wife and kids deal, although now I tolerate it much more. The downstairs just kept getting upgraded, even as recently as last night when I brought home a new rsw-15, put it upstairs and put the Martin Logan down there. I happen to also really like the Legends, plus the center channel situation is better with the custom klf 20 I made and the side surrounds are floorstands vs surround speakers and the klf-c7 rear surround PLUS they are heavy as hell and I'm lazy. I just think with the speakers I have the Legends are the best overall combo. Maybe one day I'll switch things up but we have one hell of a staircase so I'm not betting on it.
  19. sorta reminds me of the story/joke that goes something like "hey, Joe, your Grandmother whose funeral you were at yesterday stopped by to see you"
  20. I know right where one(or 2) is. Frawley's Audio in Columbia, SC. He will ship it to you. Tell him Billy Strickland told you to call and that you want him to ship you one. Give him a credit card and you're off. He's NOT an e-tailer, but a +40 year local Klipsch dealer who happens to be a great guy. Let me know if you need me to talk to him for you. He's got some of the new Reference Towers in there and I have NO problem stopping in to see him, because eventually he's gonna hook those bad boys up.......btw, in the boxes they are as tall as a refrigerator (RF-83s)
  21. munch on people. Me, I'm in the zone. week 2 and I've lost 15 pounds. This is gettin' easy
  22. Hey Tom, your name came up today. I have been looking at a cherry RSW 15 that the Beaufort Audio Warehouse had for some time now and Dennis finally made me a deal, $1200 out the door, all boxes and manual. I brought it home today. Anyway, we were talking about Klipsch as we listened to the Maggies they have set up and I was telling him about my homemade KLF center. He said, well, "oh, one of our customers in Savannah has an all Heresy set up and they are in really cool looking cabinets, etc etc" I asked, hey, his name wouldn't be Tom Adams would it? Of course it was and he said that you and Russ were good buds. They're good guys over there, I have bought a good bit of stuff from them over the years....all Klipsch. I could take or leave the Savannah store too....went in there last year to buy a Reference 200.7 amp and they treated me like I was a leper or something. Walked out. Next week went into the Bluffton Store and paid cash for one that Mike had for a job on Daufuskie that was on hold and for $300 cheaper......
  23. how do you think they would sound if the woofers were stacked? That is the only way it would physically work for our room.
  24. Well, I am well over 3 bills and a couple of years ago had my blood checked for the first time(i'm 43). Anyway, they were off the charts, almost like Kramer spilled the non fat yogurt sample into the blood sample off the charts. Well my doctor put me on Crestor, and a few weeks ago my bad cholesterol was 158, and I don't remember the other 2 but they were as good as a 18 year old 150 lb monk's. And up until now I have been eating like a bear in October. Crestor is the $hit, you just have to keep up with blood work to check liver function, as it can affect the liver in some people. I say all this and of course I wouldn't suggest taking medication over proper diet. Just eat alot of low cholesterol food.....right before bed.
