  1. Banging my head here guys. I have a TD160 mkII with an sme 3009 improved w/ removable headshell. I am getting nothing but hum out of it. I have it hooked up to a BBX and VRD's and I also hooked it up to my sx-1280 just to verify problem is indeed with the TT, which is the case. I broke out my trusty voltmeter and started ohming out everything. From headshell to rca connectors everything checks out fine. But when I measure between the rca ground and chassis ground the right channel reads 0 ohms, but I am registering an open between chassis ground and the left channel ground. I am assuming the chassis ground ties into the left and right channels at the bottom of the pillar, and then I run the ground cable to the back of the BBX. Is it as simple as the cable being bad? Any input is greatly appreiated.
  2. I have it on DVD and love it!! I remember going to the movie theater to watch it when I was a kid. Now my son's classmate just did a report on it, well actually about Eric Clapton, but nonetheless, it is trickling down to another generation. Scorsese was so young in that. I am going to put it on when we get home from Boy Scouts tonight.
  3. Okay, So FP it is. The link you have, my browser doesn't like. What are some good units to go with and still stay in my budget. The blackout curtains are no problem.
  4. The room is naturally fairly dark. the windows face north and never gets direct sunlight. We get a little bit of glare from the windows, but not much. My concern is that Front projection cannot keep up with the fast pace assoc. with gaming, is that not true?
  5. I am upgrading my room and getting rid of my RPCRT. The room is 14x12. The picture will be on the long wall. For the price can I get a decent front projection or Plasma (50"). It will primarily be for movies and gaming. Anyone know the pro's and cons betweent the two. This is my 2 channel room if it matters.
  6. A good buddy of mine lives there. I used to work for Gherig Const., based out of there. As a matter of fact we did some of the initial work on the opera house? that burned quite a few years ago.
  7. Itlldue, Where in Central Ca. are you. My brother is in Turlock and I am going to give him my LaScala's soon. Maybe once he gets them we can arrange a listen.
  8. I don't have any expertise, but it seems too many people can sit and recite all kinds of technical jargon and they get lost in the whole purpose.........to enjoy the music. Architects make it look good on paper but in the real world it sometimes just doesn't jive and they can't understand why. I think the same thing happens here. We have all this state of the art equipment and we ( I include myself) we have a tendency to believe what it says, but if we throw out what it tells us and just listen, we find the two don't necessarily coincide. my .02
  9. jason, I have shot you email did you get it.
  10. I can't remember the name, but there is a really good record store right by the university. I will try and found out the name, but I bought a bunch of albums and they all were in good shape and they even have some TT, albeit not the best, but you can give them a listen. The one record store in the pike market area is down in the dungeon and it is not too bad either. I will do some fishing and get back to you. To bad you are so far away. Bob's Jubilee's are truly fantastic, and his knowledge is incredible, he and I have been doing some dealings and he is a class act.
  11. My brother would be interested, shoot me an email or pm
  12. What do you guys think, I can't believe this. I found a guy who is the original owner of a pair of 75 Khorns and not sure what year Forte's. He will sell them all to me for 1300.00. Should I go for it?? YOU BET YOUR A$$!!!. I am going to try and put together a road trip in the next couple of days to go get them.
  13. I went to Spokane this past Sunday and picked up a nice pair of Khorns from Bob Damato. He recently did a review of his Jubilee's. I have been listening for the past 4 days and these are absolutely wonderful. Clarity, soundstage, separation, I now know what all these terms mean. I close my eyes and can see them on stage. I am curious to the exact year of them, the serial #'s are 6m366 and 367, any help would be appreciated. The VRD/BBX combo with these is the ultimate. I must thank Coytee for starting the thread which led to this transaction taking place. I will take pics when I get my TD160 and RCD 1072 hooked up.
  14. Fini, Are you a submariner? Two of my brother's were, one lives over in the San Jauquin Valley. I see you are in Sonoma Co. My brother and I used to work for Geyser Peak, but he now works for Kendall Jackson. It's nice having a brother to take advantage of employee discounts on wine, hehe. My mom live in Geyserville.
  15. Thanks Dean, I will see about getting some glass cut. Did the glass cover the whole top or just the VRD footprint?
  16. But, But, you said I dare not for fear of finding the Khorns lacking compared. But I am sure he will have them ready to show off (at least I hope). I have never seen let alone heard some so I figure I will be in for a treat.
  17. Paul I like your analogy and it makes alot of sense, for crying out loud, speedracer had them in the Mach5!!! The VRD's are about 25 lbs I am guessing, not all that bad. As far as the room goes, I like windows too. The room is 14x11x9 high. I may pick them up on Sunday or early next week. I now have a nice pair of 89 Lascala's for sale with Deans Super AA's and a pair of HII's in oak that I bout brand new less two years ago.
  18. Is it okay for me to put the VRD's on top of the Khorns, or should this be avoided at all costs? Also I have a window that is 34" away from the corner, is this going to cause any kind of problem from a listening perspective?
  19. Coytee, Thanks for posting this, it looks as though I am going to be a new owner of some very nice Khorns!!!!!! I will have to sell my Lascala's, Cornwalls and Heresy's, but that still leaves me with my RF-83's which I absolutely love and my Altec model 14's and of course KHORNS!!!!!!!!! We just have to put this together which should be easy, heck we are practically neighbors.
  20. Coyote, How much does he want for the Khorns, I am in his neck of the woods and could do a local pickup and maybe an audition of his new toys.
  21. I just scored this TT, I was just wondering what recommendations anyone has for a cart. to mate with that tonearm. It comes with a new ADC XLM mk II? I haven't heard much about it. I know alot here are fond of the Denon 103. I have an OC-9 on my TD150 and was wondering also if that would be a good match. Thanks for any insight http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1178297468
  22. Please forgive my ignorance, but I thought RF-7's were 8 ohm speakers and isn't the only way to alter resistance is with some kind of variable resistor? Please educate me. The reason I ask is that I have an sx-1280 and Sansui G9000DB
