  1. I use 5.2's as my surrounds and mains. Sounds great. Go with 4.2's or 5.2's.
  2. I wanted to downsize not downgrade. The 507 sounds great, it is definatly not a downgrade in sound compared to my Rotel equipment, imho.
  3. OK I found a B&K 507 for just under my budget. This reciever rocks. Much more powerful sounding than the 1055 Setup involved, but not too bad. I never thought that a reciever could have so many different options. More to come after some more time with the B&K 507 Earle

Im a gold trader on the Good Traders List at the HTF. So have no worries.
  5. Ilink is a nice feature, but I want the best sound quality I can get. I'm probably gonna go with the Rotel, especially if it sounds the same as the 1068. Of course the Rotel is almost twice the price of the 56txi
  6. Im in the market for a new receiver, budget is no more than $2500. I currently have a Rotel RSX-1055(preamp)and 7 channels of Rotel amps(RB1070 and 985mkII). I use Klipsch speakers and SVS subs. The Rotel equipment will be sold to help finance the receiver. I'm trying to cut down on the number of electronics as space is becoming tighter. We have 2 young children and priorities are changing. So please stay to the topic of receivers. Im currently just using the 1055 in a 5.1 setup, I plan on running a 7.1 system. I am looking at the following receivers: Rotel RSX-1067($2199) Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi($1500) Marantx 8500($1999) Sherwood Newcastle R965($1999) Anyone here using any of these receivers? Any other receivers to recommend. If I go with the Pioneer I may be able to get one of the Pioneer universal players with I-link. Im partial to the Rotel, as I currently am using it. ANyone know if the DACS and processers in the 1067 are comparable to the 1068 preamp or closer to the 1055? TIA
  7. Its a D-Link MediaLounge wireless media player(DSM-320) and a Linksys wireless G router. I can finally stream mp3's to my HT without the hassle of running cable. This is my first attempt at setting up home network. Setup was simple. Plug in the router and and run the included software. Everything worked the first time. I turned on the media player, it found the routers signal and viola 5 minutes later music was playing. Sound quality is pretty good, I rip my mps's at 320kps. I cant wait until I get all my CD's ripped and can retire them to storage as backups. The D-Link player is pretty easy to use, even my wife is having no trouble using it. Anyone else here doing this? It is the ultimate in COOL. Earle
  8. I think your bro will like the 3.2's. I use KG series speakers and am very happy with them. I listened to RF-3,5,7's and prefered my 5.2's over all except the RF-7's. Earle
  9. I have a KG HT and love its sound. I have listened to the RF-3's and 5's and prefered my 5.2's. $230 shipped for a pair of 4.2's is a great deal. Jump on it. Earle
  10. LOL, Looks great. "klipsch" looks cool. Nothing like adding those personal touches to a project. I cant wait to see the completed center channel. Earle
  11. Sounds like a good price. What are you going to use them for? Maybe rear centers? The 3.2's use a different tweeter than the 5.2/4.2's, so they may sound slightly different than the 4.2's or 5.2's. Nice to meet someone else who uses KG 5.2's and 4.2's. I just love the way they sound. It's nice having 5.2's in the front and rear. It's suprising how much bass goes to the surrounds. Earle
  12. T2K The KM series was introduced for the military. Im pretty sure the KM 5.5 is the same as a KG 5.5 I know they use the same K-85 horn tweeter. If possible look for another KM/KG 5.5 for a perfect match otherwise I agree with T2K. Go with a KV-3 Earle
  13. I would also go with another pair of KG 2.2's. The larger KG speakers (3.2, 5.2, and 5.2) use a different tweeter than the 2.2's. I used to use a 2.2v as my center until I got my 4.2. 5 KG 2.2's with a capable sub would sound awesome. I would suggest waiting on a sub until he can afford a good one. I have gone the "I want it now way" and ended up spending more in the long run. Earle
  14. My vote is for Rotel. I love my RB-985mkII and RB-1070. Sounds so good with Klipsch. Earle
  15. I agree with Dave. The Pioneer 563A is a pretty decent universal player for the price($179). I'm very happy with mine. Earle
  16. I'd look for a used Rotel RSX-1055. I think Rotel and Klipsch sound great together. YOu can find 1055's for around $800-$900 on a regular basis. Earle
  17. WOW!!! Great price. Sorry to hear that your not keeping the Ref 50. Someone is sure to grab it at that price. I must resist Earle
  18. I may have a extra foot for a 4.2. If its the same you are welcome to it. Just pay for shipping. Earle
  19. I purchased 2 sets of 5.2's for under $300 per set, though on Ebay they tend to sell for slightly more. Earle
  20. Im from Wallingford. About 15 min north of New Haven. Are you in Ct also? Check out his website LIONAV.COM. Prices are listed as well as what a calibration includes. Earle
  21. Gregg Loewen of Lion Audio/Video calibrated my set this week. I purchased the set from Circuit City 4 months ago and after running Video Essentials I was very happy with the picture. DVD's looked great and DirecTV was pretty good, some channels looked good and some looked bad. I planned on having the set calibrated, so I didnt do too much tweaking other than DCAM convergence. In comes Gregg. He arrived at around 7pm and he started to do his magic. First thing he does is convince me to remove the glare shield. I wanted to keep it because I have a 16 month old son, but thankfully I listened to Gregg and removed it. Removing the protective screen made such a huge difference Im surprised that any HDTV's come from the factory with them. I have never seen so many screws, Hitachi really over designed the screen brackets. It took almost an hour to remove the shield and reinstall the other screens. The next thing he did was line the interior of the set with a heavy black felt. He had me sit in the viewing area and look in the set before and after the lining and I was amazed at the difference. After lining the set it was like looking into a black hole. I was concerned that this step wouldnt make a big difference and wasn't worth the money, but after it was done this thought was gone. He then cleaned the guns and did a manual and electronic focus. I was surprised how out of focus the guns were. After putting the set back together Gregg started the calibration. Setting the grey scale was next. I always thought the set look slightly green, and I could never seem to get rid of the green tint. Its gone now. My greys were pretty green. It was very cool watching him make changes in the ISF menu and watching the green disapear. Next came contrast and brightness. This seemed pretty straight forward as I have used AVIA and VE before, Gregg just did it in the ISF menu. I now a TV that has an accurate color decoder. Red push is gone. Again it was really cool to see the changes on his laptop as he adjusted the colors to spec. After this was done Gregg took measurments across the screen and found out that he needed to perform lens stripping. He also noticed earlier in the calibration that Hitachi added some tape the the red lens in a rough attempt at lens stripping. Gregg removed this when he cleaned the 3 guns. After lens stripping the set now measures within 5% uniformity across the screen. Finally it was time to check the geometry and convergence. According to Gregg my geometry was pretty good and he just made a few adjustments by eye. COnvergence took around 30 minutes as it was off quite a bit now. Finally done.... We looked up at the clock and realized it was after midnight, so we took a look at a couple of scenes from the superbit version of The Fifth Element... How does look? Simply amazed by the difference. DVD's seem to come to life on the screen. I now understand what a properly calibrated image looks like. Colors are so rich and saturated, but at the same time whites are white and blacks are really black. Makes me really want some HD programming. The detail is amazing, Im seeing things I never noticed before. Its amazing to see the texture of an actors clothes or the fine grain in a stone wall/building. I just wanted to thank Gregg and share my story with you guys. Earle
