  1. Oops, I was just thinking about the front L & R, which is "just" a $200 difference between the RF 63 & RVX 54. The full RF 63 system lists at $2,300 over budget!
  2. Listen for the mid-bass, not just the lowest stuff. If you're considering the RVX54, how about the RF63? RB-81's and a pair of subs might be the way to go.
  3. Harmony remotes are great, execpt - if you use a DVR. There's a second or 2 lag that doesn't make too much difference with switching between sources or starting DVDs, but it's a killer when FF thru TV commercials.
  4. Perhaps the speaker's cross-over has failed. Have you tried running test tones thru it? (not your receiver's pink noise, but a series of tones from 80 to 16,000 Hz)
  5. At a $400 price point, you could get a receiver with speaker equalization, like the Pioneer 1015.
  6. There's 2 things you can do with an SPL meter, and that's the first: get all your speakers to play at the same level when you run your receiver's test pink noise thru them. The second thing you can do is to see how your system reproduces the frequency spectrum, by playing test tones. Use your sub-woofer level & tone controles to get the response as flat as you can. If you want to go further, look into getting a parametric equlizer for your sub, and modifing the acoustics of your room.
  7. Nobody has mentioned the origional video music concert: Fantasia.

  9. Well, the RF-52 is 1 db more efficent than the RB-61 (96 vs 95), but I just don't see that as making that much difference. The RF-52 does go 9hz deeper (34 vs 43) than the RB-61, & if I didn't have a couple of subs that might make a difference. What I do get with the RB-61's is more flexability in placement, & that does make a difference.
  10. I haven't listened to the RF-52's, but did recently purchase a pair of RB-61's and a RC-52, and am quite happy with them. I went with the 61's because I needed to wall mount them.
  11. My question is about connecting my SW-V to my receiver's subwoofer output, not to my front speaker outputs.
  12. Thanks for your detailed response. What I want to do is add the Klipsch SW-V as a second sub, so turning off the sub channel & setting the main L/R's to Large on my Denon 1803 is not an option. I know that I can add the SW-V by using a seperate power amp, but it seems like such a waste to amplify the LFE channel to the SW-V, just so the SW-V can take a bit of that signal & re-amplify it.
  13. The SW-V only has speaker level inputs. Would I have to use a seperate amp, or is there another option?
  14. I've got a pair of RB-61's on order (the local dealers are still selling their remaining Ref 3, and not stocking the Ref 4's yet.) You're right about the spec's being close to the RB-35. I demo'd the RB-35's at home & did a freq response chart with my Radio Shack SPL meter. I'll do another when I get the new speakers.
  15. Good things come to those who wait. The RB-61 is close in size (height & width) to the RB-25, but with it's extended depth is close to the volume & weight of the RB-35. The RC-52 specs are not much different than the RC-25, but I'm hoping that it's extra volume will help it's mid-bass too. Ordered a pair of RB-61's & an RC-52 today. Thanks for everyone's input.
  16. I've done it both ways also. I started with 2, because the docs for my Denon receiver are somewhat vague about rear channel setup. After a while, I thought something like "what could be more "REAR" than 1 speaker directly behhind my head?" After changing things arround, I heard a loss, rather than a gain (yes, I did re-EQ). I later read an article that said it's hard for us to place sounds directly behind us. A bit to the side is better, so 2 speakers are better for 6.1, as well as 7.1. I put my second rear speaker back up.
  17. If you can listen to both, let your ears decide. If that's not an option, the published specs are very similar. However, the new model has more volume & weight, and so most likely has a bit better mid-bass, even if it dosen't show up in the +-3db freq reaponse limits. I think alot of it depends on how much your deler will discount the discontinued model. If you can get the RC-35 for 1/2 price or so, get it & don't look back. If it's still close to MSRP, you might as well get the newer, better performing, model. I think they both will be a close match to your RB-35's.
  18. The RB-81 & RB-35 both have 8" woofers. As I recall, the RB-35 MSRP was arround $600 per pair.
  19. The RB-51 and the old RB-15 are rear ported with 5 1/4" woofer The RB-61 and the old RB-25 are front ported with 6 1/2" woofer. The RB-81 and the old RB-35 are front ported with 8" woofer
  20. Have you considered the RB-25? It has a front port. It's been replaced by the RB-61, but some dealers might still have some, maybe at a close out price. The RSX speakers don't go down much past 100hz & the PB10-ISD starts to roll off at 100hz, so I think it would crossover better with the RB speakers.
  21. Nothing specific to Klipsch, but all the usual rules apply. If you're not clear on the basics, you might be best off to take some pictures of your room, & talk it over with your dealer. Once you've got them positioned, you can just use the auto setup on your receiver.
  22. My understanding is that the replacement for the RF-35 is the RF-82.

    SPL Meter

I guess it depends if you want to set speaker levels or plot freq response. "Easy" is a good word for speaker level, but "Tedious" is a better word for measuring freq response. You can level match with just white noise from each speaker, but to do freq response you have to record SPL for a series of test tones. Rives Audio has tones matched to the RS meter, but I think you can also just look up the db/hz off-sets & make your own tones.
  24. The RC-52's on my short list too, twheats1. I kind of know I should be getting the Ref IV's, but due to wasting money on silly thing like rent & food, I have to consider saving money with Ref III on close out.
