    EAR me!

    Oh yeah sounding good now!

    EAR me!

I'm getting good bass now by turning it a quarter turn and it is just barely far enough(by inches)from the monitor not to fool it up. It still leaves me with the sub as the only place to put the receiver. Will placing the receiver on the sub cause any problems? I've got some beanies ordered so we'll see how they do.

I need to do something because the only place for it is under the desk. My main system is also in the same room and everything is shoe horned in so nowhere else for the sub to go. In its current location the only place to put the receiver is on the sub but I would assume this is a no no. If I can shield it somehow I can place the sub under the desk below the monitor which will give me better bass and allow me to place the receiver on a cabinet under the desk. Maybe if I get a bunch of these they might do the trick.http://zapatopi.net/afdb.html

Yeah you. I posted earlier in the HT section and no one answered so I figured you would be the man. My PW-2200 is screwing up my monitor so is there any way to put something under the desk to magnetically shield the monitor from the sub? I can put it off to the right with no problem but it does not sound as good as when it is directly under the monitor on my corner desk. Thanks.
  5. Ok the "Quick" part was because I'm impatient but hey it takes all kinds. I finally got my PW-2200 sub (speakers still aren't in so I shipped the sub) and I need to know how to shield my PC monitor from the sub. The sub is below the desk directly under the monitor so I was thinking I could apply something under the desk between the sub and monitor but what? Thanks.
  6. Call them on the phone and find out what their threshold for sound is. While you have him on the phone turn up the volume until he says it's too loud. Make sure you cover the phone receiver because you want him to hear it through the ceiling not the phone. Then you have an idea of how far you can push the volume. You can also tell him to call when even this level is bothering them if someone is trying to sleep. There has to be a happy medium. The problem you could then face is that the level he finds too loud might be barely audible for you in which case I would still try to work something out as long as they are reasonable but if they are Richards about it have your landlord or whatever come over to determine an acceptable level when it is not past the buildings quiet time. Some people are just too freaking sensitive and I'm sorry but when it interferes with my enjoyment then there is a problem. The building I'm in now has no one above or below and I only have one adjacent neighbor. They play loud music too so when I hear that I know it's a free for all. They have a little girl so I try to be tactful about it. I also know their work schedule, when the daughter goes to school and they let me know when they go on vacation. It's not a perfect world but it's not too bad. If all this doesnt work you could try the blood trick, preferably someone elses.
  7. Well that was a payne. Took me a while to figure out which one.
  8. Just got some Terence Hill Classics on DVD - My Name Is Nobody, They Call Me Trinity, Trinity Is Still My Name and Boot Hill. Don't know if many of you guys have seen these but they are definitely ummm lets say unique westerns. My father loves them so I will bring them home for the holidays with the projector so he can enjoy. I think I will be moving back into the #1 son spot again for a little while so my brothers will have to have a lot more kids to beat this.
  9. Anyone know if Orca is out on DVD? My Uncle is in this movie so I wouldn't mind getting the DVD version. You can add Caveman with Ringo Starr to the list. Awesome special effects.
  10. Your laptop will scale to just about any rez you want. I have 4 PC's that I run as HTPC's and one is a laptop. The laptop lacks the power of the other PC's but you don't need much power to run a software DVD player and in my case I'm even able to run a few FFDshow filters(except resize)which is all I really need. The big advantage is that it's portable so I usually carry a combo of laptop/projector when I travel. Sure beats the hell out of watching a 20-inch TV in the hotel room.
  11. dkp, hit the menu button and go to the bottom selection, I think it says "about". There you will see what version you are running. Now go to http://www.infocus.com/service/x1/software.asp?site_lang=1&site_region=1& and check the latest version. Also make sure you read and follow the instructions before doing this as a bad flash can be the end.
  12. dkp, if you want info like that you will have to pay. PM me to get my PayPal info.
  13. Yes it's worth it and can really improve the PQ of your display. It should be done after the first 100hrs if I recall correctly and again after a year. If you are already around a year or past you should only need it once but that will also depend on how long you keep the TV. A good example is the cheap Panasonic 47-inch RPTV which pales in comparison to most other sets in it's category but once ISF calibrated it compares favorable to a Pioneer Elite. I would also check around to make sure you get an ISF tech that is worth his salt because the last thing you want to do is pay the cash to have an idiot come and screw up your set. Most of the good guys travel around the country and you have to book appointments with them in advance which means it could be several months before they are in your area. Ask around at avsforum.com and hometheaterforum.com because I know there are guys there that use these services. Good luck.
  14. DrPyro, a faster color wheel speed would more than likely solve your problem. BTW whats up with the name? Do people come to you with the flu and you set them on fire?
  15. dkp, yes they are the same projector but the 4800 has better gamma tables. The difference here is that it will require less calibration which I find a real advantage on sources that don't have their own overlay controls. If you use a HTPC or a DVD player that gives you control of the saturation and hue then it won't really matter but in the case of an Xbox or a lot of other DVD players that don't allow you to do this you may find it better. It's a matter of modifying the firmware and flashing the X1 with the 4800's latest version.
  16. I currently own 2 DLP projectors, an Infocus X1 converted to a Screenplay 4800 and a Dell 3200MP and no one has ever had a problem with mine. We do a lot of LAN gaming with projectors so you can imagine how many people have viewed my projectors and my friends projectors with no reported issues. As far as I'm concerned it's rare.
  17. dkp, make sure you have the latest firmware for the 4000hr bulb life. If not the counter will only let you go to 3.
  18. You will not be able to get HD rez from composite because it can only pass roughly 200i-220i so RGB is the way to go for you. I'm soon to be facing a bunch of problems when I go home for the holidays as my bro in-law just bought a panny 47. He was telling me he has been watching HDTV and how great the picture is so I asked him which receiver he bought and he doesn't have one. He couldn't understand why he needed one when it says on the TV that it's a HDTV! I left it at that because it's just easier to do it all when I get there. I can guarantee you all his video sources are connected with composite and his audio with analog connections. Combine that with fact that the panny's usually suck out of the box so I will have to do a lot of tweaks to the TV in addition to calibrating the video and audio. Funny thing is when we ended the conversation he was talking to me as if I did not know what I was talking about. Got to love the guys that go from a 20-inch TV to a RPTV and are now experts. Bet he has his contrast up around 90+.

    The Hulk

I thought it was pretty good too. Shook the room a few times even at moderate volumes so there has to be some low bass going on there. Loved it when he took out the tanks. Here is a screen capture I took and added some lighting effects from the dog fight scene when he was in the tree. Got to love CGI.
  20. I have not heard the RSX-5's (wondering if I ever will) but the RB-25's have a better frequency response which would not matter too much if you set your speakers to small and use a good sub. With no sub I would go with the RB-25's but with a sub it is hard for me to say with out hearing the RSX-5's. The tilting stand and smaller size is the only reason I have not bought the RB-25's or some other bookshelf speaker.

If so, you might want to look for a unit that includes Faroudja DCDi de-interlacing, which can really improve the picture quality. ---------------- Agreed. IMHO the best DVD player (I know this isn't really what you're asking) is a HTPC with a Radeon graphics card and TheaterTek + FFDshow. Most of the time the reason why a cheap DVD player looks as good as an expensive one is due to a small screen size or a low rez display. You will see big differences on projectors, good RPTV's and large high quality PC monitors. A good quality 27-inch TV for example will look about the same weather it's an Apex player or an RP-82.

    Call Of Duty

My copy should be here any day.
  23. If you do some searches for the game you are playing you can usually find ways to improve the speed of the game by editing some in game files to remove things like bullet holes, view distance and other graphic effects that would slow down a high ping. You can also try running in a lower resolution, lower sound quality and other effects. With dial up you could try running dual modems which if you ISP supports it will almost double your speed. Do a search for Multi Link PPP and dual modems to find the info you will need. I used to use two USR modems to accomplish this and I think you can run up to 4 modems but the modems also have to be compatible. You will need a seperate phone line for each modem and as I said your ISP will have to support this for it to work. You will also need to enable it under the networking settings section of your dial up properties. Good luck.
