  1. aaron, i don't know specifically your assembly, but sounds to me like you would want to glue the bm to the plate of the removed woofer assembly. remove the complete assembly 1st & use instant epoxy (got mine at home depot). glue the side of the bm where it repels from the woof magnet to the plate - a lil tricky, push hard & hold it in place for awhile until it sets. then i'd let them sit for at least a few hours w/ heavy objects on top of the back of the bm until they're set & dried well. the object is that the bm is behind the woof mag & repeling or neutralizing the woof's magnetism. though trey at 1-800-klipsch could probably answer best about how-to w/ this specific kg magnet.
  2. indy, because the movie & equipment industries haven't got it together yet for a the digital transport standard, you have to use analog connections from player to use its dacs (digital to analog convertors) for sacd. so the quality of those can make a dif in sound. though lousy dacs w/ sacd may still sound better than good w/ a dvd video/cd player & standard formats. i don't have any direct experience w/ dvd-audio or sacd because i'm still waiting for the new single digital connection standard. sounds like they're leaning toward a firewire connection. but i haven't heard much good on forums about apex. pretty much you get what you pay for - but that's just what i've heard. & like these guys said, unless you have an hdtv you can't use progressive scan.
  3. thanks ray. i can't use rich text w/ my netscape.
  4. "And to think, I almost let that chump at Good Guys talk me into buying a set of $200.00 speaker cables for just the 2 front speakers. Another $80.00 on the center speaker cable." sorta reminds me of shoe salesman selling you fancy shoe strings along w/ your new shoes. & they make much bigger commissions on those impulse/add-on items.
  5. " Both knobs are at 12 O'clock, 10 O'clock" patrick, did you see my post after yours in the HT section? i think the above is the problem. i never left my rp sub output (contour) knobs higher than all the way down or flat (got this bottoming out when i did turn those up). & they were still too much bass compared to the other drivers. i traded to the rf-3 & sub before i got a sound meter. but that might be good to adjust the other drivers more in line w/ the sub. also try dif placements. your sub setting on the yammy should be on "both" but you may want to try the "sw" setting & hear if it makes any dif.
  6. i think i saw enough of the scorpo king when i rented mummy 2 a while back. at 1st I thought that ad for it was the mummy movie. sounds like i didn't miss anything from that ad.
  7. patrick, hey klipsch is cool on that. besides i'm sure the speakers & components don't compete w/ what klipsch offers or in the same price category. sounds like they're more mail-order oriented anyway. that sucks on your rp. sounds like you should set their output (contour) knobs all the way down to flat. never turned mine up more than flat & still had good bass. how 'bout the sub & lfe output levels on your yammy? those should be flat too. sounds like the subs are bottoming out from being over-driven. that can happen w/ any sub if you turn their output up too much & run high volume w/ big bass material. 1st i'd use a sound meter & w/ the rp subs on flat setting, balance the other speakers to the sub level. but if the rp don't suit your bass needs, & you were to get the rf-3 & a nice seperate sub like an rsw you wouldn't get any flak from me. would be a lil pricier though.
  8. pat, why can't you post the site of a legit, authorized dealer? what's the big secret?
  9. wonder if they corrected that of the 3802 & allow for lower crossover settings than 80hz, like 60 or 40hz.
  10. i'd stick w/ the rc-7 for rear surround as they are more like a rear center between the surrounds. & you have the rs-7 now anyway. so listen, tweak, listen, take a deep breath, listen & go from there.
  11. but after that HE said "Although frankly, it takes a main to match a main (or even come close) when it comes to timbre. A center speaker such as an RC-7 has two woofers and one is tapered off when sounds in the vocal range are played through it. Such tapered array is not likely to be addressed when a center speaker is placed on the sides or rear of your theater." but then again, you have an rc-7 for the rear surround now. why don't you listen to it in steps before taking additional steps? this doesn't seem to conflict w/ your 1 or 0 analysis. to find out if 1 is better than 0, don't you need to 1st find out what 0 sounds like?
  12. moon, do you have your single pair of rs-7 surround & single rc-7 rear surround up & running yet? if so, how does that sound? i'd give that dealer you've purchased all this from a hard time if they won't then let you demo just another pair of rs-7 or others as a 2nd set of side surrounds. that doesn't seem right as they should have rs-7 & others for demos. any other dealers?
  13. kain, then where are you going to put the new set of rc-7 rear surround?
  14. just to clarify , my main point was that the best way to find out what sounds best to you is to hook up w/ the dealer & experiment w/ some dif speaks for side surround. hear what sounds best to you in reality, not on paper. ed has a good point. rc-7 are designed more as a center rather than a side surround. how they sound exactly as surrounds in your room is hard to tell w/o hearing them there. i was dealing w/ the 2 sets of side-surround vs 1 set. for 1 set, rs-7 wdst may be best to you & all that's needed. if its a pretty long room maybe even 2 sets of rs-7. or then maybe two set of directs like rb-5 like in the movie houses. its just impossible to say for sure for you. hook up w/ dealer & experiment.
  15. HE, yes cudos to Orange Peel for finding the boa & Justin for my head transfer work. perhaps justin could put some horns on your head.
  16. the main sys (living) room is around 15'WX25'L. i'm pretty space constrained for the gear i have. & especially the stuff i'd like to have.
  17. from now on i'll watch on digital cable tv iControl ppv & if its good may buy it.
  18. yes, when the dsp matrixes a rear surround channel its just duplicating the mono info from the surrounds. it doesn't taketh away, just duplicates that common info in both surround channels. similar to when you do prologic decoding on 2.0 material & the dsp produces a mono front center channel from the L & R channel info. but for 5 channel suround it does so w/ the discrete RS & LS channels to the rear center "channel". of course in this case the front center is discrete.
  19. "So, when you have a 5.1 DTS signal, yet you have a rear channel, as Boa said, it will matrix out to the 6th channel. To do that, does it duplicate signals from the side surrounds, or does it take away from the side surrounds?" yes. it dupes the material common to both surround channels, mono info, & outputs it to the rear surround. "Then with a discrete 6.1 DTS ES signal, I am assuming it does not affect the side surrounds, is that correct?" yes, correct. the processor won't affect the given surround output, whether 6.1 matrix or discrete. But what if you have a 6.1 DTS signal with no rear? Will it put what would be the rear channel into the side surrounds? yes dts es matrix or discrete & dolby ex are downmixable & the rear surround is downmixed by the processor into the surround channels.
  20. welcome back H-ED! great avatar. is that a live feed?
  21. lynn, you mean "dupe"? i meant the below. as when i try to edit & instead of editing it creates another post. Main Entry: 3dupe Function: noun or verb Date: circa 1900 : DUPLICATE
  22. just, i had a few problems w/ the 1st movie, but stopped & restarted & it was fine. other movie was perfect. also excited about having all those premium movie channels like HBO on VOD/MOD for no added charge. no more having to be at the tv at the exact right time anymore. at least for those channels. eventually it'll be for all channels. this is the next big leap in technology as long as the studios & broadcasters don't screw it up.
  23. hey & the Renaissance Fest is going on here in KC for a while. its a biggy. i have the honor of being the 1st to correspond w/ HE on this site a while back. still don't know if on that 1st post he asked a question or made a statement. think it was both.
