    hdcd

jjt, thanks. yeah i have a few hdcd that i play on my regular dvd/cd player w/ the dig connection. just thought there were "hdcd" before like '96 when they say they came out w/ the new format. iow, if there an old "hdcd & a new hdcd format?
  2. op, yeah i'd go that route then use the rc-3 as a rear center when you get that rc-7. then again i have rear cornwalls so i'm biased. you'll be losing the wdst sound of the rs-3 though. a lot of the answer depends on your listening tastes but no doubt the rf-3 as surrounds would be much better for muti-channel music imho.
  3. sorry, i thought ears was asking about my avatar. all i did was post that snide, tongue-in-cheek comment. just joking of course.
  4. "When purchasing concert DVDs,I prefer DTS,they are usually done better. The only example of a DTS track that is bad is Alice Cooper's Brutally Live concert. It sounded like crap!! I don't what they did different, but it was terrible!" mm, i have that too. don't know why but its dts 5.0 (no lfe channel). still sounds better than some of my lousy sounding DD 5.1 concert disks like the Stones - bridges to babylon, but yeah it could have been done much better.
  5. tom, does it freeze just for a few seconds or stop or malfunction there?
  6. thanks again justin & orange peel. this is great - now i have the best of both worlds. op found the boa & justin did my head transfer.
  7. ears, no justin did it. its not that obscene.
  8. see you need to use IE to do rich text, but i like netscape. bummer.
  9. ears, is that the actual size? sorry, j/k. that's a great line.
  10. that's why they're cheap - they're from unauthorized dealers.

    Saving Private Ryan

i'd use a single ultra or ss now & see if u even need another. another good DD only is "We Were Soldiers", DD EX. seems many of the great effects & big explosions are in war flicks.
  12. can't edit, but btw, that's an AM radio. turns on/volume w/ twist of lid & tunes on bottom base dial. sorry, though no output jacks to run into the big sys.

kain, those svs will be really handy for any of these. do you have those yet? could you update your sig file to show what you have now?
  14. it is the player switching layers i'm sure. all players do it for dual layer dvd, but if it hangs for more than a few secs may be a problem. note the makers usually put the layer change in a transitional place in movie. but its in the material & unavoidable.

    Saving Private Ryan

kain, for DD no doubt - the matrix. i got Ryan in DD before the dts version came out & it still sounds great. as far as dts, i'd have to put U-571 up there w/ ryan for sound & sub impact.

    hdcd

question - aren't there "hdcd" discs out there that used that name (like before '96) but don't have the newer hdcd encoding requiring the new hdcd decoder? like i have some telarc discs that have "hdcd" & play fine though i have no hdcd decoder. believe these just use the name or possibly have more bits. iow, didn't "hdcd" exist more for marketing before the hdcd encoding/decoding came along?
  17. sorry, as i can't edit older posts, have to repost as IMG this pic of a fine audio component.
  18. thanks though. much appreciated. now if you could put this guy's head on the body of a boa constrictor...
  19. op, sorry had to go w/ this 1 cause the guy looks just like a bleach-blonde me. still have your entry as custom & may go back to the snake. still experimenting.
