  1. Just wanted to let you guys know that we cancelled our reservations at Best Western. I checked out www.choicehotels.com and got a room (king size bed) at the Econolodge for $3l.79 a night versus $71.99 a night at Best Western. There is a drop down box on the web site for discounts, aarp, aaa, etc. Click on Internet user it will reduce the $37.00 rate to $31.00. Econolodge has most of the same amenities as Best Western. Continental breakfast, free high speed internet, etc. You can request a fridge, microwave, etc. Econologe also has a swimming pool. I am sure Econolodge is not as "uptown" as Best Western, but changing hotels saved us $l60.00 bucks, since we will be staying four nights. So... if any of you are still looking for a room, Best Western should have one or two available now, and Econolodge definitely has rooms.
  2. I have been signed in for three or four hours now, double checking for the cell phone list. Not sure where everyone else is. If there was a party and I wasn't invited, I'm gonna be mad.
  3. Okay guys...I had a request to add first names to the cell phone list. I did that...Sent new email to everyone I have emails from...Let me know if you did not get a list with first names on it... also, let me know if the newest list is legible. I did have some last minute entries on the list...if I get anymore I will update list.
  4. JM I was wondering why you had not responded! I will pm you with my email address to make sure you get it. Christy
  5. The list has been emailed. If you did not get a copy please notify me asap. I need your regular email address to send the list, as I "group" mailed the list from my Hotmail account. Please send me an email if you did not get the list. I know some of you did not get the list because I couldn't add you to the contact group for some reason.
  6. I had to revive this thread...About two weeks ago we went to the irrigation supply company again. While finalizing our purchase I mentioned to the manager that owned the (walnut oiled) Forte I's that I was actually looking for Forte II's and the pair in the store was Forte I's. I then offered him $300.00 if he still wanted to sell them. [] He said he thought he had another pair of speakers in his attic and if he did he would sell them. Today, I called the manager and asked if he had decided to sell the speakers. I told him dtel would drive the hour and half and bring him cash right them. He said, "Tell him to come get 'em".[] Dtel got in the car and left immediately, with the biggest smile on his face, (Almost as big as the smile he had on Bourbon Street).[] Three hours later he was home, with three of the Forte IIs hooked up as front speakers and the Forte I's as rears. I was surprised by the difference it actually made. I think all and in all we got a pretty good deal.[H]
  7. Trey, I'm glad I can help. If there is anything else you need just let me know. Christy

  11. Boudreaux's Butt Paste...worth its weight in gold. This stuff is really good. Our daughters are in their mid 20's and this product was not available when they were born. However, this has been a staple for my three, now four grandchildren. It is truly a miracle drug. My mother in law, who is in her 70's uses it for heat rash. It will cure the worst diaper rash overnight. The founder, a pediatrician from Covington, LA is no doubt a billionaire by now. IMO, if he isn't he deserves to be.
  12. Dtel and I visited the Hard Rock Cafe in the French Quarter this past Saturday. (Second trip to Bourbon in two weeks) This was our first visit to a Hard Rock Cafe. To our surprise the entire place was rigged with Klipsch speakers! Do all Hard Rock Cafe's use Klipsch speakers. Maybe we are just behind the times.
  13. Billy Preston loved life. It was evident in his performances. He had a good time, entertaining many.
  14. There is a reason for everything. There is undoubtedly someone better for you. One day she will look back and realize what she lost.
  15. Just wanted to share our latest arrival with you. Ryleigh Christy-Clare Burks, born 6/5/06, 8 lbs. 3 ozs, 22 inches long. Ryleigh is our fourth grandchild. Mother, baby, husband and big sister are all doing fine.
  16. Maybe we should make a list to share cell phone numbers. I could prepare the list. If the list is something you guys want to to do, email me your cell phone numbers, I will make the list and then email the list back to each of you. We usually do not eat dinner until late, however we are flexible.
  17. Damon, Where will you guys be staying? Any idea of your arrival time?
  18. Elden and I will be arriving in Hope on Wednesday evening/late evening. Our plan: We will be leaving Picayune, MS Wednesday morning. We will stop in Ruston, LA to take our youngest daughter and granddaughter out to a late lunch. After lunch in Ruston, we will depart for Hope. So we will be in Hope on Thursday. We are staying at the Best Western.
  19. Picking up angel wings was one of my favorite things to do when I was younger. My grandparents lived in an area of New Orleans called Chef Menteur. Canals were dredged to build a subdivision behind their house and "angel wings" were readily available. I was about 10 years old when the canals were dredged and picking up angel wings was my favorite thing to do on weekends. I had about 200 angel wings at one time...I wonder what my mom did with them?
  20. Those speakers are ugly, can't possibly sound good and thier "momma is probably ugly too". Even if they did sound good I would not want those interfering with my "curtains and armoire".
  21. I'm assuming she's talking about Geodes? We used to go "digging" for them outside of Bloomington, IN when I was in college. Digging basically consisted of going out in the middle of a creek with your barefeet and scooping out the mud with your toes until you felt something round and bumpy. We'd smash them open later to see what colors we discovered. Great fun. Hillbilly, I reckin, but great fun. [] I know that doesn't answer your question, but I felt compleled to participate anyway. Maybe Trey knows... Amy that sounds like fun. We used to go to the Gulf Coast and wait for the tide to go out. Small pools of water would be left onshore. Then...we would get barefoot, walk through the pools and pick up soft shell crabs. Neatest thing...the crab sheds its shell, the soft shell crab would be sitting right next to the shell it just shed. I guess the main difference between "digging" and "softshelling" would be, crabs bite when they are still in the "hard stage". Then, of course, we would bring our catch home, clean 'em up, batter and fry 'em. It's been a long time since we did that. Maybe a while longer because the beaches on the coast in Mississippi are still closed.
  22. Most people do not realize the many sights and sounds of New Orleans. We always speak of Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. New Orleans is much more than the Quarter and Bourbon. The Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium, as well as IMAX recently reopened and have added several new exhibits. Our zoo and aquarium are among the best in the country. You can combine a riverboat ride on the Mississippi with a tour of the Zoo and Aquarium. Riverboats even offer couples the opportunity to have thier wedding and receptions on board, complete with all amenities. The history of the French Quarter is in a class by itself. The French and Spanish cultures combined to create some of the most outstanding architectural structures in the United States. The Cornstalk Hotel in the Quarter, known for its elaborate wrought iron fencing is another visitor's spot. Wrought iron fencing in every shape and form is as much a part of the history of New Orleans, as the Quarter. The Cabildo, Jackson Square, the Mint, the St. Louis Cathedral, the Jax Brewery, the Riverwalk among other attractions offer a wonderful vacation destination for families. The World War II museum (I believe that is the proper name for the newest museum, or maybe it's D-Day Museum), The Children's Museum, City Park all cater to families. New Orleans also has several other museums worthy of checking into. A tour of plantation homes along historic River Road offer families the opportunity to experience another aspect of our city, without the revel associated with Bourbon Street. The small courtyards visible from the sidewalks of the Quarter reveal a another lifestyle enjoyed by those who reside in the Quarter. Small, beautifully landscaped courtyards appear throughout the Quarter. A tour of the Garden District in uptown New Orleans, accessible by street car is another wonderful tour. The Garden District was not affected by Katrina. IMO a trip to New Orleans would not be complete without witnessing the night life on Bourbon Street, for adults only. I think most would feel they missed something if they didn't go to Bourbon Street at night, at least once.
  23. OK, you can gring a friend, but it has to be onstage, with dtel's wife. ;^) Thanks, Bob... Fini, I don't do Karaoke.[]
