  1. Stop that! [] Don't shoot yourself in the foot. I'm sure if they cared, they would do their own DD on this and I assume they have a computer? Unless they are in their 90's and never embraced technology (internet)... It's not your responsibility IMO. There are many here that think the $5k+ sale on ebay isn't kosher so certainly don't mention that one. I assume you've heard khorns? Make an offer you think is fair and go pick them up. Even if they are stuck out in the room at least temporary - they're going to sound great. It's Friday - now's a perfect time to get them installed so you can play with them all weekend.
  2. Well, not counting the last pair on Ebay that went for $5200+?, the pair before in CA went for $3200-3300? I wonder how many sets of khorns are in Montana. Do YOU get to make the first offer or the seller? I think khorns would look perfect in that room! Don't know about blocking the windows though, but your cornwalls certainly do.
  3. Buy them. Figure it out later. Seriously. []
  4. Interesting. Jeff - you still had the bass right? And the highs weren't in your face or overpowering? It's good you are saying they aren't 'bright'. That would be bad. Jeff - Were you drinking tonight or anything I should know about? You sure about all this?
  5. I'll be curious as to your impressions after you load it up. I've not done mine yet. Maybe this weekend.
  6. The wood grain pattern is very nice IMO. I'd be asking how deep that scrape goes, but I bet they would look great if cleaned up. I'm surprised he didn't take the time to do a quick dust, but that's the type of thing that might turn off some buyers. He's taking offers on them. If I were local, I'd be doing that for sure.
  7. Well then - how does one possibly go about buying new x-overs since there are choices and each choice would have it's own sound/flavor? Does one try to zero on any perceived problems or areas that could use improvement then tell the x-over builder and they pick the appropriate set? Or would one just list anything they'd like to preserve (like low end), etc? It just seems like a leap of faith. Pick one and hope it sounds good. Then again, I see some can be tweaked (attenuated) and that has to account for some control over the flavor - right? And I wonder if that extra choice is easily perceived when changed? I for one would love to see a thread with people attempting to describe the differences in the offerings. It's pretty confusing for a newbie. Me anyway.
  8. Do the 'yellow ones' also have the same richness in the low end as the oil cans? I guess my fear is with the yellows being better for the highs (as you say Dean) - well... they wouldn't sound too bright or piercing would they? I'm assuming it's a nice balanced sound?
  9. My husband locked into the Hsu stuff and we were going to buy that sub before I scored on the khorns. It's likely we'll create 2 systems some day and will likely consider the '3'. Sounds like you like it - yea?
  10. I'm curious then, what the differences to the ear is between the oil can type and the yellow cylinder types?
  11. I was not overrun by crowd noise at all. Certainly had zero issue with Geddy's voice being drowned out, etc. Maybe my settings for everything are different?
  12. I just can't imagine needing a sub with khorns for ANY type of music (if the speakers are positioned right). They knock me over. I see the biggest Reference sub at 32Hz also. Given that, would that not be equivalent to the 15" 32Hz khorn woofers? CEC - So are you saying when watching a concert DVD, by setting only my Khorns to "large" - that I'm missing stuff? I can't imagine this. Like on this Primus "halucinogenetics" DVD, the most excellent drummer (Tim Alexander)'s bass drum sounds stunning to us. I can't imagine. What IS "LFE" anyway?
  13. I'm not getting a sub for these khorns. No way. I would have bought pretty tall skinnies. Also, IF the receiver only allows down to 40hz - I would think most all subwoofers would be locked out. Surely they go well below 40hz. Right? I'm still trying to figure out this thread.
  14. Well wait - are you now saying my Klipschorns won't be allowed to go below 40 hz? Your last post seems to contradict the other one to me. IDK what the difference is between 40 & 32hz to my ears so I can't tell if I'm missing something or not because I've never heard them elsewhere.
  15. Mike - I understand now. Thank you so much!
  16. Oh my! I have to find that download! That would be a great learning experience. The khorns do go amazingly low (these are the only pair I've heard) and I love it, but if I'm missing something - I sure need to make it right. Especially since I'm a bass freek. I want to get the best out of these speakers.
  17. I think he was legit. I talked with him early in the auction (gave him the SN page, etc). He was pretty excited about the auction. The bidding list just looks kosher to me. Maybe it was the boxes. []
  18. I actually don't have a sub. And right now - other speakers are disconnected. But you're saying when I set the mains to 'large', they are actually going to play BELOW 40hz despite the other menu only going down to 40hz? Do I have that right? Setting to "large' overrides the 40hz limit? Just wondering if I need a new amp/receiver.
  19. It has pretty blue lights. THAT'S why it's a keeper.
  20. In my HK receiver, there's a section whereby one can designate the Hz for a given speaker. This is an HT receiver and these settings run from 40 up to 200Hz. All mine are set to 40Hz. My surround speakers are turned off for 2 channel listening thru the Klipschorns. I read somewhere that some receivers, etc. have a place where you can change the Ohms from say 6 to 8 or so. I don't see such a switch on mine, but I wonder if this Hz thing is something I need to change for the khorns? IDK anything about this but if I have it set wrong, I'd sure like to know? Thanks.
