  1. Yeah we were teasing Tom that his head was so big he couldn't get it through the door...
  2. Here is the best way to clean ear tips: 1. Inspect the eartip daily for clogs in the airway 2. When clogs are found take the ear tip off the earphone. This way the debris won't fall down in the body of the earphone and clog the damper or armature. 3. If you can not clean the airway thoroughly then you may want to soak the eartips in hot water. This will loosen wax. Just don't get water in the earphone itself. If water runs down the nozzle it can block the air path and potentially damage some of the components. You can then flush the airway with a syringe or even squeeze the eartip like a toothpaste tube to get the ear cheese out. MMMMMmmmm.... 4. Don't worry about the ear tip. It is quite durable. If you do tear one you can buy replacement parts at Klipsch or a local dealer that stocks them. They are not available yet but will be soon. Tom you are late... It sounds like you are thumpin to the beat. I hope you enjoy your earphones! Stick It In Your EAR! Again
  3. Come on Matt, You can tell the truth. We were working on round house kicks and Matt went all Kung Fu on me. Should have given him the decaf.
  4. Check out the great review on Gadgetnutz... http://www.gadgetnutz.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=411 "Truth be told, I have never used a more comfortable in-ear style earphone. These were so light that I really didn't know they were there. The seal was tight which blocked out most all the outside noise around me. The added advantage to such a good seal is that I didn't have to turn up the volume of my iPod to dangerous levels. Usually, even in the noisiest environments, I only had to go to about half volume to produce loud and beautiful sound. So Stick it in your EAR!
  5. Kain, This system is extremely robust! You could use it for a PA for a rock band if needed. Trust me, at 90 dB you are seeing 0.1 Watt rms so you either have a problem with a tweeter rubbing or you are hearing a harshness. Are you less than 10 feet away from the speaker when listening? Are you sitting level ear position to the horn? These could be part of your problem. You can't open them up because your room is so small. On the other hand... the RF7 IMHO is slightly bright in the upper vocals for me. Just ask Kaufman, I like a speaker that is very warm, so the presence in the mid to upper range should be flat, not elevated. If you treat your room with dampening materials on the walls or ceiling this will help a lot.
  6. Someone just posted an IMAGE review on Amazon. I am glad to say that they thought the product was very comfortable. "...without question, the MOST comfortable in-ear headphones I have ever worn. The difference between the fit of these compared to other high-end earbuds is amazing! I have a pair of SE530s and have tried others such as the ER4-P, Triple.fi, and many others. I use to love switching back and forth between models and having them for different uses, but now after wearing the IMAGEs, I find myself disappointed when I am without them." http://www.amazon.com/review/product/B000WAHFBK/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_summary?%5Fencoding=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending [imageAttachment] Stick it in your Ear!
  7. I find that playing the guitar is very therapeutic. Music is food for the soul, and creating music is good for anyone. I think that if you buy a Fender P or J bass you can’t go wrong. Especially if you buy it right. Your best bet is to spend the money on a 15 year or older bass that is a classic and then you won’t lose any money. After that time period the value levels off and classics from the 70-80’s are starting to go up in value. Make sure all the parts are original, and if the finish is scratched DO NOT refinish it or you will take a 50-80% loss. Now with that said you will pay $500-1K for said classics but it is a good investment. If you are looking to spend less then you have to be a crafty bargain hunter. Timing and location are everything. Sometimes you will see lots of deals and other times not so. Collectable guitars have gone up about 15% a year for that past several years, but with the economy tightening the price is leveling off and it is a better time to buy. Go to the used guitar shops and pawn shops if you are lucky enough to find some that have good deal. Again timing and luck are everything. I know guys that have doubled their money in three days, and I mean big money. But this is rare find, they just bought at the right price. The most important thing is just to have a good time and unwind. It will make the busy life more worthwhile.
  8. No... I have that system custom built into the walls. It will stay with the house if I ever move...Unless the buyers aren't interested HT rooms and willing to pay for the upgrades, then I would take them out.
  9. It sounds reasonable but is not finished yet. The imaging is better because the speakers are farther apart then I could put the RF 63. Doing IW woofers will be the biggest issue.
  10. Sounds like you have a similar problem to what I am facing. Have you thought of IW solutions? see... http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/97750.aspx The problem with RF-83's and RC 63's are that you would like to have 12 feet or more of distance for the speakers to sum. Short of this dimension the array is too tall in ratio to your distance and the EQ isn't aligned due to proximity effect. It will still sound good, just not optimized.
  11. I did all the drywall in the basement so I know if I have enough mud I can fill any hole. I think I used 6 pales down there but an drywall expert said I should have done the whole house with a pale. I guess my walls weren't as straight. Now I know why it took me six weeks to do the drywall. I moved the 63's next to the 83's in the basement theater. I still have to update the 83 crossovers to the lastest revision. I wonder how the will work inplace of the THX Ultra II's? TOO MANY TOYS! Not enough floor!!!
  12. Utttt Oh...Now you are making me nervous Arky. This is an LCD so it is 90 lbs which should be lighter than a plazma. I almost hung it over the fireplace but I was worried about heat aging the electronics prematurely. I will say that I did verify studs for all (4) 2 " bolts and Matt MacBeth helped me hang it, and he "said" he had professionally done this before. Matt is our new program manager at Klipsch. I better check his resume to see if he really did hang TV's before, or see if he got fired for not hanging them properly. I haven't had that problem with stud finders going off everytime I walk past them though...
  13. [imageAttachment] Whoops! Nothin a little mudd won't fix...
  14. I am such a good husband! We recently got a flat panel LCD TV for our family room. I have RF-63 and RC-64 for my front channels in this room and I am really proud of these babies because I designed the product, finished the cabinets and assembled the speakers just the way I wanted them. When I hung the TV on the wall the speakers looked out of place. I could have lived with it because it really sounds good, but I have a THX Ultra II system in the basement theater, and I knew my wife would be please if I installed In Wall Klipsch speakers in this room to make it more streamlined. Let's face it you can be small and elegant or big and sound awesome. It is hard to have both. Being a speaker designer all my life my wife has had to put up with lots of speakers. You guys know the drill...too many speakers but need some more. Well I thought I would be a good husband and play into the WAF rules for this room, so here is the installation in process. [imageAttachment] I installed (2) R-5800W for L/R and (2) RW-5802 for LFE in the walls. I still need to decide on the sub amp and install a center channel. For now I will use the RC-64 for center, even though it is mounted low. The sub amp needs to be special since the sub box is so small and requires a lot of EQ to sound flat. I have a large volume of air behind the wall for ventilation pipes but the subs are sealed boxes as is. I am tempted to vent them but am concerned with excursion issues since that driver was designed for a small box. I guess I should do the box calculations in LEAP to see how well the drivers do in a larger box. This project is a spur of the moment, since I wasn’t planning on buying a flat panel TV soon and the speakers I bid on at an employee sale last week. I warned my wife that it wouldn’t sound as good as the RF-63/4 and I place the IW’s against the wall when I unboxed them and fired them up without the subs. They sounded terrible but of course they would. They were designed to be placed in the wall so there was no back box thus no bass. There was also a hot honk in the lower midrange. So now I started getting a little nervous, at the thought of cutting holes in the drywall and having it sound like donkey doodoo. Well I thought it would be cool to mount them sideways and rotate the horn, so they were lower profile. That way pictures would get in the way when hung. Well as you will see in the pictures attached that the studs were tighter than 18” on center and the mounting brackets got in the way of the studs. Close but now cigar. Now I have to fill a hole in the wall. The subs are mounted low on center out of view and a center channel hole still needs to be cut. More to follow…
  15. I thought that the T version was with a 70 V distribution transformer. I will see if I have the data sheet at work. According to this link the driver is a 500 Hz cutoff design with a filter cap. http://www.altecpro.com/pdfs/vintage/SpeakerAndMics/drivers/902-8A%20902-16A%20902-8T%20HF%20Drivers.pdf
  16. And who was it that posted a picture of ear cheese? http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/94657.aspx?PageIndex=2 Really BIG ear cheese. Texas Headphone ear cheese. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/94657/967543.aspx#967543 I believe this is the big Cheese evidence. Hey wait, if you put Colter next to this picture then which is the bigger cheese. [*-)] Just kidding Mikey... You know I love you, eventhough I wouldn't give you free earphones. Hey when do we get to hear the wall of Voodoo. Did I miss the invite or was I just not invited? Maybe you just invited Roy instead of me. You said you guys were tight...
  17. Anyone know how to contact the Head-Fi webmaster? I am trying to register as a member but the Image Verification is not up. If someone is a member could you let them know that I would like to register? You can contact me at Professor_Woofer@yahoo.com Thanks
  18. Hi Kain, Can you be more specific about your application? How big is your room? How many dB is the amp at? What are you hearing that is straining? What type of audio are you playing? That system can take A LOT of power for a home speaker and your amp is reasonable. I would expect it to get quite loud. IMHO RF-7's can sound a little harsh, but I won't go into the details. If you are playing in a room less than 30k ft3 you should be OK.
  19. Head-Fi is still not up... Too bad. It sounds like they are getting close. Here is their latest statement: "2007-11-24 1113 EST: We are finally close to the re-opening of Head-Fi.org. We apologize for the extended down-time, but expect to have the site back up in the next 24 hours! "
