The main choice for us in LCD or Plasma was for one the price.. Plasma was way more money and for too. I hear plasma TVS only last like 4-5 years and then there done and you have to throw them out where as the LCD the bulb can go bad and you just replace it for around $75 and your back in biz. ---------------- For the record, a plasma will last way longer tha 4 to 5 years. The half life (brightness) of a screen is like 30,000 hours. If you view tv 5 hours a day, the plasma will give you a minumum of 16 years viewing time. And the image should still be serviceable at half brightness as the contrast and brightness are jacked way too high at 0 anyway.

I know exactly what is in the back, I've been using a 7 speaker setup (and true 7 channel surround processing.. something most have only gotten in the last year or two with DPLIIx) for around 7 years. And have done so with a variety of different surround speakers... including mono-poles, di-poles and bi-poles. Shawn ---------------- Shawn, For 7 channel sound, then, you don't notice any "timbre" differences on movies and music? I wouldn't think so, but just checking. Thanks.

Would that be a problem?
  4. Great responses, guys. Thanks. The thought of a pair of Heresys hanging from the rear wall would be a bit much for even my very accomodating wife to accept!
  5. I have 5 Heresys in a 5.1 arrangement and would like to add two rear speakers for 7.1. I understand that 2 more Heresys would be ideal, but my chairs are about 4 feet out from the back wall in an 18 foot long room, and frankly, 2 more Heresys in the rear would not work (the side Heresys are laying on their side and are on bookcases about 6.5 feet high). My rear wall simply will not accomodate 2 more Heresys. Given that the rear surrounds are mainly going to provide ambience and more of an enveloping sound compared to a 5 channel system, can anyone recommend any non-Heritage speakers that will work with the 5 Heresys and be more easily accomodated on the rear wall? I understand that a perfect timbre match is impossible, but feel that the benefits of 7.1 (even without matching rears) are superior to a 5 channel system. Any thoughts?
  6. They will sing as one if placed that way, tweeter to tweeter. There are many designs that use a similar layout.

Maybe you were only 98% sure? ---------------- Tony, i just tried to tell you what UPS did to me when i had some damage to my shippment. glad you got to keep them. Russ ---------------- Yeah, I know. You guys got me so spooked out, when the results were a bit different, I wanted to share. I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I've ordered some oak veneer for the box that's salvageable, and will keep the other box for parts, unless I get adventurous over the spring and build a new box for that one. I ordered 5 new grills from Klipsch (only $35 a piece) so I'll have 5 matching oak heresy IIs when all is said and done! I've begun refinishing them (they're oiled oak) and the first one came out great! This has turned into more fun than I imagined.

They came crushed and dented. UPS picked them up about two weeks later. About six months after that - after who knows how many phone calls to various stations around the country - one finally returned. The other one had disappeared. This began another round of battles while I tried to prove that one speaker is not much fun when you were looking for stereo. UPS contended that since they only lost one, they only owed me for half the insurance. Same thing happened with a 35 mm motion picture print. UPS lost reels 1,2 and 3, but delivered reels 4,5 and 6. So they felt they only needed to reimburse us for half the insured value. Naturally enough the distributor, Disney, felt half a movie was not better than none and made us cover the other $300. I could go on, but it's time to go home. Rumor has there is a vast warehouse in Colorado somewhere that all UPS damaged material goes to and employees of the company are allowed to go in and help themselves. This is probably an "urban legend," but I thought I'd repeat it anyway. ---------------- Hey Captain, Just got off the phone with the UPS store in San Rafael and UPS is paying the claim. He's already got one check (for one speaker) and is expecting the other this week. He said he'd be mailing me the check by the end of the week. So far, so good.

  10. Ah, I thought 750 was the model # since there was no dollar sign.
  11. We got the same value. In running pink noise through the left and they rights after repair, they both sound the same. I guess I'm good to go.

Only your ears listening to your music can tell which is best.

A friend of mine brought an old EV PA speaker that had been crackling at the same time. It was diagnosed as needing a new input. Good as new for a total of $36. We're referring this place to all our friends. They're in Braintree, MA if you ever need his type of repair. The place is called Pro Sound Service.
  15. Update: Found a local pro shop that replaced the capacitor and the dustcap from one of the woofers that had been pushed in and the speaker is as good as new. Total cost for the repairs: $22. I'm a happy camper. Thanks for everyone's help on this.
  16. Try the Panasonic SA-XR50. Great sound, powers the Heresys to perfection and costs around $250 new.
  17. I've got 3 of them. One is about 15 years old and the others two 2 years old. The 15 year old one has held up very well and is just as comfortable as the 2 year old pair.
  18. This question comes up about twice a week. It's easy enough to unload a single Heresy (since this question comes up about twice a week). Why not spring for the pair and sell the extra? I've got six Heresy IIs in a 5.1 setup. I'm keeping the sixth for parts. I'm into it for about $200 which is well worth it to me for piece of mind. If I blow a driver, I'm ready to go.

  21. Actually, I think that neither of these series uses real wood veneer, but vinyl wrap, so I think "timber" matched would be a misnomer in any case.
  22. Customer feedback is key. Asking questions is also important. I have sold and bought many items on ebay and have never been burned. I was unable to sell a Lexicon MC12 (did sell it via Audiogon) as the scammers were out in force. I had one guy do a $7000 buy it now. He had signed up that morning with a fake name, address and phone number in Minnesota. Wanted me to ship to some very weird sounding name in Brooklyn. Hmmm... When I asked him to Paypal me the dough, he disappeared. I was out almost $150 in reserve fees, etc. Fortunately, Ebay credited me those and I relisted. Same type of stuff. Weird emails from Singapore, offers to buy it via fake escrow services, etc. I gave up and listed it on Audiogon.
