  1. Didn't say anything about the rolloff. If I have to change it, no big deal..
  2. Michael, I just got an email back from PE about the amp. They said the HPF is centered at about 19hz on the BASH amp. I don't know what the tuning is on the sub design from Tymphany since they don't really say it, but my guess would be that 19hz might be a little low. But, I'm really liking this design anyways. And now that I've looked around so much, I'm pretty much stuck on Peerless...
  3. I would like to stick with 12s, maybe even downsize to 10s. I guess I didn't outright state this, but this sub would either be a) movies and music, with about one movie every couple of months or b)100% music. It would depend on if my dad ends up with it or if I end up with it. I personally only ever listen to music since I watch movies on my PC and have good enough headphones for that, so I am not worried about having enormous drivers and boxes as seems to be the trend these days for DIY subs. It'd be nice to have something that can go decently low should the mood take me and I decide to listen to a little rap, but that too doesn't happen very often, so displacement is not too much of an issue...
  4. Yeah. "No shirt, no shoes, no service" is the general rule of thumb around here, except at the pool. And yes, gravel is not fun, but it can be bearable for a little bit. The worst though are pine cones. Especially a freshly dropped, open one that hasn't been flattened yet. You step on that and OUCH, it doesn't feel good. Of course, if you've built up calluses on your feet like I have, you, at the least, won't bleed... And we get crazy weather too. Just had a warm front come through. Before it was in the 40s (cold for us), rained like mad, and was in the mid 70s for a day or two. Now it's back into the mid 40s low 50s and WINDY
  5. Yeah 1500 is pretty good I guess. And it can get kind of cold here in the winter, cold enough to turn your feet to ice, but during the summer I go barefoot everywhere when I'm at home.
  6. They actually made a 15" Resolution woofer, but it's impossible to find and not that cheap. I have a 15" Dayton DVC in an enormous box that was one of the earlier boxes I built, so it's not made that well and frankly doesn't sound good. I could build the DVC a new box, but I'd rather sell it and get something smaller since it is blocking access to a bookcase, which was the only place I could put it and have it be somewhat inconspicuous. Besides, I'm a big fan of passive radiator subs. My Earthquake Supernova is really really good. I like it a lot, but cannot find a 2nd one, so yeah...and I'll ask PE about the filter.
  7. Hi all, I'm looking at building a new sub. As of right now, I'm looking at using a Peerless XXLS 12 and the matching XLS Passive Radiator in a 33 liter box going with Tymphany's recommendation. I already have a 300w BASH amp from Parts Express from another project, so I think I'd be ok with powering the sub. Does anyone have any experience with the Peerless subs? I've seen where some other people got good results with this design on some other forums, but I want to know what you guys think. I'm not much of an HT guy, but I do enjoy the occasional movie. The stated F3 of 25 hz should be ok for low bass since it would be in a corner. And I've heard many good things about Peerless' speakers, so I would assume that the SQ of a sub of their's would be pretty good, but I don't know for sure. The other thing is that I'm not at all looking for a monster sub. That's the last thing I want since this needs to fit under an end table too. All thoughts are welcome!
  8. Haha! I love it, except being from the south (the deep south), there has to be a few changes.... 5. So you have a $100,000 car (that's the case where I live; rich yanks moving in all the time). We're not impressed. We have $1500 rust buckets that only work 3 weeks a year. The cool dirt of a dirt road feels good on your bare feet anyways. 4. They are cattle. They're live steaks. That's why they smell funny to you. But they're gonna smell delicious to us pretty soon. If you're a vegetarian. Get outta here. I-20 goes east and west, I-75 goes north and south (I-65 if you're over in Alabama). Pick one. 6. So every person in central Georgia/Alabama waves. It's called being friendly. Try to understand the concept. 15. College, and High School FOOTBALL is as important here as the Falcons and the, well that's it. Florida teams don't count. 20. A couple of puddles ain't a flood and an afternoon thuderstorm is always welcome. If you're afraid of lightning, you're outta luck. If a tree falls and you loose power, don't come cryin to us because we know how to survive a few hours without air conditioning. This is the south, it's supposed to be humid. No offense to the Florida people, or the northerners, just good fun. And I say Alabama and Georgia because that's where my family is from and I spend a lot of time in both states. Thanks blsamuel!
  9. I've had the chance to discuss various topics about anything with OB from time to time. We didn't always agree with each other, but I must say, what an asset he has been, at the very least to me. I'm very saddened to hear the news. In fact, I don't really know what to think or say. I guess all I can do is wish for the best for you Oldbuckster. You will certainly be in my thoughts.
  10. Lol. Even though the brown note doesn't exist? The Mythbusters proved it so it MUST be true!!! Even though they used Meyer subs...BLECH!
  11. Here's a good video on it. That thing is awesome. WANT Something else, if you look at the drivers themselves at 6:10, they look to be very similar in design to MTX's 9500 series woofers. Just a thought.
  12. I'm actually doing the same thing with the sub amp in my car. So far it has survived (knock on wood), but a converter is probably a good idea just to be safe. But at the same time, it is entirely possible that the input impedance on the sub amp is somewhere near 20,000 ohms and the amp cannot put out enough power into that impedance to damage anything, which is probably how the amp in my car has survived (again knock on wood)
  13. It certainly doesn't take long before upgradeitus hits you again. But no matter what you have, make sure you enjoy it and congrats on the system!
  14. Yeah. Actually they reak now of the carpet cleaner I used on them. But that's definitely preferable to the rat stench of before...
  15. Hmm, not sure how I would seal the outside of the speakers. They're carpeted and all, but the inside, yeah. That might be a good idea anyways.
  16. On the other hand, I bought these from a guy like this. He said he had no idea about it, which was why he had his grandson with him when he dropped them off by my house....
  17. They may come back? Really? I hope not. I cleaned everything as well as I could, but would it be wise to cover the port anyways? You've got me worried now since I keep them in the weight room in our basement....
  18. And just to clarify, that was on the inside end of the port, which is how the buggers (not from my house) got in!
  19. You're lucky Marvel, I had to fill up my car at 3.49 (mid grade since it's supposed to run on 91+) here closer to Atlanta last Sunday. Even still, regular was at 3.29 at the station I was at. That was the cheapest we could find...
  20. Yes it was. I've cleaned it all up already, but there was no doubt about it. There was poop everywhere and it smelled really bad. Thankfully, Pine Sol did a good job cleaning that stuff up!
  21. Ok, this might be in the wrong section of the wrong forum, but I couldn't keep this to myself. I just bought some Cerwin Vega PA speakers as a project and when I got them they smelled terrible. I asked how about to clean them and went at it. Colter calls carpeted speakers like them "rat fur" speakers. I would have never thought how literal that would be! Check this out...
  22. Ear you are a lunatic, not that that's a bad thing. I am so jealous of you, whether it be your audio equipment or your seemingly endless reserves of dinero [] Again, nice stuff by the way.
