  1. I've read about the whole transformer problem, don't know if it is fixed, just don't buy the logitech to play them loud, even though that is where they sound the best. The transformer is not good enough to support the amp at high volumes, so anything more than short term use you risk screwing up the system. Then again, if you aren't buying them for the volume, get the monsoon 500s. Or better yet, these new diva swans I've heard about, that is if you don't care if you get a sub.
  2. I don't know how much I can emphasize this. You get the 5.1's for the sub, and the sats that are a little better. Not the center. The center in a pc enviroment is not important enough to get 5.1 over 4.1. It's just not worth the money. You should buy a system with better quality that is 2.1 or 4.1 instead of a 5.1 system just for the center. I wouldn't get the pro 4.1's. The logitech will match them for a whole lot cheaper. If you're going to go with Klipsch, get the 5.1. Get it for the quality sub, and the even though I said this doesn't really matter, the center. If a better sub more neutral sound, and a center is not enough to throw an extra $200-250 into a system, then get the logitech z-560. And for the sound cards, get the audigy for games, the sc for music, and the ae as a cross between the 2.
  3. Well, it costs money to add, it's really new, and gamecube is one of the few things that supports it right now. But, yes, I'm a little disappointed. Look at it logically, most people don't need it, and it would make the price of the decoder higher. If most people wouldn't benefit, then it's not exactly a good thing to add.
  4. Good to see someone on this forum that posts because they like their speakers, there are too many on here that don't.
  5. Sounds like a bad replacement amp. connact promediatech@klipsch.com for a replacement. I'm not sure if u need to worry about a fire hazard unless the amp gets really hot, or you start to smell something from it.
  6. Talon, if you've read, the biggest thing people hate about the pros is that the bass is way to boomy and too loud. You can at least turn down the sub to minimize the problem with the pros. The logitech is even worse, having the boomiest sub over $150, and you can't turn it down. This is what everyone hates about the logitech, the sats are great, but were ruined by the sub. Sure it can play loud, but it is obviously cheaply made, for I think most speaker companies going for all out volume could beat it for thte price. The thing with the pro 5.1s is that the sub is just as loud, but is one of the best sounding pc subs to date, you get volume and quality, of course as most people have stated, the sats are the weak point now. I seriously doubt logitech can match the 5.1 sub quality, and still sell it for cheap. Actually I know this won't happen, at least not for 1/2 the price like they are selling now.
  7. Thats a little weird, was your computer on when you unplugged them? Well, you should have unplugged the pros before you unplugged it from the computer. Anyway, send an email to promediatech@klipsch.com, and they will give you a replacement. I dont think this is a problem you can fix at home
  8. Very impressive, not quite as loud as the svs from what I read at audioreview, but it was between 660 and 2500 dollars. I'll have to wait for theear's opinion, at $660, this is in my price range. Edit, went to the main website, not as good as svs in 20 hz volume, but at 25 its 115, it really drops off past 25 hz. But it is $2000, so you can throw an extra $300 for more placement flexibility, and louder subsonic frequencies. I have no idea how tight this thing is. 9. 5.1 systems, you cant beat the pros right now, for under $600, which is the videologic dts. I've heard good things about them, and I'm assuming Justin hasnt heard them, so he can't say that they are overpriced. The Megaworks will be an alternative product, same price, but I read that the 2.1 had trouble at high volumes from gamespot, but 3dss said they were fine. It is clear that they sound amazing though, the midrange is better than the xfire, which is indeed a hard thing to acomplish. Have to wait for them to be released.
  10. Correction, that is bass the pros and z560 are playing, just not what a good sub should play. Ears, bass 40 hz has to be considered bass. I guess it could be really low midbass. The thing that doesn't make sense is that I think the sub in subwoofer stands for subsonic, and that would mean being able to play with power under 20 hz, 90% of "subwoofers" can't do that. They should be called just woofers.
  11. You need a y adapter that allows you to put to 1/8 inch plugs into one output. You need a 1/8th to larger plug, like the one that would go into a reciever (sorry dont remember the name). Then you need a big headphone plug converter to rca (which is the red and white plugs on the back of your tv, vcr and possibly dvd player. Sorry I dont have names, but in general you get a converter that puts 2 plugs into 1, then you need to enlarge that plug with a bigger one to put over it, and then a converter that takes that one large plug, and turns it into 2 rca connections. This can all be found at radio shack, in the same section, so look around for stuff to convert a 1/8" plug to rca plugs.
  12. Of course the sub is louder, but it doesn't play louder at the same volume,(in other words it doesn't stick out like the 4.1 sub). You only get that at full volume, and at normal volumes, the sub is tighter, and more neutral. The quality alone is a big enough reason to upgrade, the volume is also a plus.
  13. It reflects the v.2-400s, peoples praise of them, mainly because they were able to make gaming audio about as good as it gets. Although they have been out done, at one time there was a large community of people here that thought there pros were the best thing on God's green earth.
  14. Klipsch, this is too much. I've read this way too many times after you guys supposedly "fixed" the problem. I'm sorry but you probably have a bad amp and need another replacement. I just want to ask where you bought them? The hot amp is usually the sign of a bad one, and I'd not recommend blasting them, they are known to start fires when pushed with a bad amp.
  15. From a technical standpoint, yes size does matter. The larger the enclosure/driver, the easier it is for a sub to play loud at the lower frequency. But unless you are going for the ultimate subs (like revel, highend velodyne, and svs, and the insane krell), I think the sunfire signature is more than enough, it has power all the way down to the limits of your hearing, and has more than enough volume. But looking at numbers, the hgs-18 plays down to about 12.5 hz and says relatively flat while doing so. This is unneeded IMO, but it does shake the room, more than the smaller subs. I guess a logical reason to by a hugh sub is if you had to fill a huge room with bass.
  16. Bigbusa you dont seem to know what you are talking about. The 4.1s do have amp probs, mainly from Best buy for some reason. The pro 4.1s had amp probs in about 10% up until early May if I remember. The 5.1s had problems in the 1st and 2nd shipments, and supposedly have been fixed (dont know for sure until I get a flawless set). I'm not sure what you are talking about. I think the number of all the pros is not what you are looking for, because if you have been here long, you know that the 2.1 and v.2-400 have had virtually no probs, and the number of v.2-400 sold and their failure rate makes up for the 5.1s. So in other words, the failure rate of the entire promedia line is low, and I know you're looking for a high number. You have made your point even though it seems you aren't sure what it is.
  17. I want to know what percentage of the defective 4.1s where from Best Buy, I swear I've read most of them coming from there, I guess around 3/4 or more are from that chain of stores. Buy it from the net. The problems of each system are separate from the others, the 5.1s have different problems from the 4.1s.
  18. It is unless you have no need, meaning you live by yourself, and have about an acre of land so no one can hear them at full volume.
  19. Yes, it's a common problem. The knob becomes staticy where you use it most, the other knobs would be like your main volume one is if you used them more. I'm also assuming the static only happens at the low volume part of the knob. The 2 ways to get this resolved, you can buy the cp-1 for $50 from Klipsch, which gives you a new control pod, with headphone and mp3 jack. Or you can try fixing it yourself. I remember that twisting it back and forth helps it. I also read that you can open it up and clean it out, because the reason for static is dust as far as I know. If your warrenty isn't up contact Klipsch for a new one, if it is, you can try those 2 suggestions or buy the cp-1.
  20. Try hooking just the fronts and then just the rears to a portable cd player that u know works. It could be a combination between noise inside your computer, and the audigy. Make sure you mute all sources your not using, line in, microphone, aux, etc. If they work fine with the cd player, it is probably a sound card problem, I think you should make sure your mixer is optimised.
  21. Any Sound blaster made since the original live supports 4 speakers, the 5.1 and audigy support 5, so your question should be does the audigy support 5, and yes it does. Dont worry about not having 4.1 sound, the audigy is fine.
  22. I have a better one, as a general rule, don't put a subwoofer on a desk, always on the floor if possible.
