  1. Here is a pic from the side with a flash. With the flash, you can tell the mis-match. The RSW-12's do ok with the LSII, when listening to music through my Scott they are not turned up very loud, just enough to fill in, sounds great.
  2. Same thing happened to me last November, Vanns had a pair of walnut mis-matched but I keep waiting when I was ready they only had one left [:^)] they had 3 black ones so I just ordered black (matched my center and subs anyway) I didn't want to wait any longer in case they never had them at that $ again. I do wonder why or how Vanns continues to have that mis-matched deal.
  3. For what it's worth, I bought a pair of LS II's from Vanns last November. They are Black "mis-matched" wood grain. They are labeled "B" stock because of the wood grain mis-match. Can't beat the $, and because of the black ash, I really can not see any problems with the wood grain. I replaced a set of Forte II's with the LS II's and never looked back. (Moved my Forte's as back surrounds) As far as the bass, I am running a pair of RSW-12's next to each LS.
  4. Have you listen to some Nora Jones yet with your LSII's. She sounds fantastic on my LSII"S running through my Scott. Very pure voice!
  5. The match is not to bad on the Academy but it can't keep up volume wise. For movies the gain on the amp for the center channel is at max.
  6. So how do you like those LS II's? [] I have been enjoying mine since November. I was getting ready to post the same question. Of course everyone is going to tell you that another LS II's would be the perfect center, but I simply have no space for it! Right now I am using an Academy with the Popbumper upgrade. The network upgrade made a big difference in the Academy, but it's not quite enough to match the LS II's, so I have been thinking about an HIII also, I guess my question would be can I lay it on it's side? Using Forte II's for back surrounds, which is really kind of a waste, but I refuse to give up my Forte's []
  7. They come in two pieces. the base bin has four indents on the top and the horn section has four large soft rubber feet that fit into the indents attached by wire from the bass bin. Really easy to set up I did mine by myself, but they are very heavy. I got mine in November and finally got them connected to a Scott 299a for 2 channel listening also running a pair of rsw-12's with them, sounds fantastic!!! Here is a pic of mine, and congrats on the new La Scala's you are going to love em!!
  8. It's the Niles DPS-1, several places sell them, I think I googled it and bought it on-line, a bit pricey about 80.00 but well built and works great, easy hook-up one thing to note will not work with anything larger that 14ga wire.
  9. Exactly what I do, Scott 299a and Denon 3802 running to a Niles amp switch box, Niles going to my La Scalla II's. Works great.
  10. I'm using the NILES to switch between my Scott 299a and Denon 3802 with my La Scala II's very easy, works great.
  11. I was going to ask the same type of question! After I purchased my La Scala II's and reading all the information on Tubes in this forum, I have been looking for something instead of my Denon PMA700 for 2 channel listening. I have been looking for a Scott 299, there was one on E-bay last week, rebuilt but the reserve was 500+ I thought that was kinda high, are is it. I know nothing about tubes and I don't know anyone that can work on them. A friend just gave me a Sansui 500a he found at an estate sale, he didn't want it. There is not much info in this forum about them, or on the web. Does anyone know anything about Sansui's? is it safe to connect it to my La Scala's without having someone check it out first? Is it worth even messing with it? From what I have read on this form I think I would rather have a Scott 299. I'm so confused[*-)]
  12. I remember walking into that store in 1985, after leaving another store looking for a new system. I told the lady at Flips I was going to purchase a new set of Bose 601's and was looking for amps. She smiled, set me up with a pair of KG'4 and a Denon PMA700V with a stack of CD's, and told me to have fun. Needless to say after a short time I purchased the KG4's and the Denon, still have them today, Later I purchased a set of Forte II's from them, and still have them. Great Store!
  13. All my other Klipsch Gear was purchased from Flips in St. Louis. I don't think they would have sold a new set of La Scala II for 3400.00 with free shipping. This is one of the few things I ever bought on-line. Did a lot of research on-line and Vanns is a good company to work with. Thanks.
  14. The back label states LSII B stock. Like I said, they look great, I can't tell what would be wrong with them. As soon as I figure out how to post some pics I will [*-)]
  15. Sorry for such a late reply, but I bought a pair of the black non "grain matched" from Vanns in November and I Can Not tell what is "Not Matched" they look great to me, However, they are labled "B Stock" but they look great and sound fantastic.
  16. Thanks, I have a newer Sony upconverting DVD player that I have not tried with the 700v, I'll give that a try tonight. I don't think its a problem with the speakers, I have listen (watched) a few concert DVD's through the 3802 and everthing seems fine. Thanks Again.
  17. I recently purchased a new pair of La Scala II's to replace my Forte II's as front mains. For movies I am using a Denon 3802 which, for now, is fine. My problem is two channel listening. I am using a Denon PMA 700v that I purchased new in 1985 that went along with my first Klipsch purchase, a set of KG4's. The KG's and Forte's sounded great with the old Denon, but my new La Scala's just don't sound that great......hard to explain....they just don't sound very clean, if that makes sense. I have been reading a lot on the forum about different kinds of amps to the point where I am totaly confused. The Denon is 100wpc solid state, and I reailze I don't need that much power with the La Scala's. So my questions are 1) is anyone on the forum using La Scala II's and if so what are they driving them with? 2) what would be a good replacement for the Denon in the $500.00 range. 3) My old CD player (cheap phillips) can't be helping the matter either, what would be a good single disc (are those even made anymore?) CD player. Thanks for any advise.
  18. My new La Scala II's showed up Monday. I bought them from Vanns at the miss-matched wood grain discount in black. (I don't know what is miss-matched, I can't find anything wrong with them) I also received my network upgrade for my Academy from Chris on Monday. I installed the network upgrade on Tuesday and then unpacked the La Scala's. I moved my Forte II's to the back where I had a set of KG4's (I wish I had the room, I would replace my RS3-II sides with the KG4's) I got the La Scala's connected to my Niles switchbox, but really did not have time to mess with them until Wednesday night, I started out with my Denon 3802, that was not good, that amp sucks for 2 channel listening. I then swithed over to my Denon PMA700, MUCH better. After listening to several different CD tracks and messing with placement (damn things are heavy!) I have to say that the La Scala II is fantastic! I was a little worried about the reported lack of bass, but that is not a problem, very clean, tight and fast. The highs and mids are incredible. I have enjoyed my Forte's for years, but the La Scala's are making me break out some old CD's and enjoying them all over again. Went back to the 3802 for movies, wanted to see how they sounded with the Academy and the upgraded network. After some fine tuning I think I can live with it. I don't have room or money for another La Scala and I don't know what else would work better that is similar in size to the Academy. I will say the network upgrade from Chris is a HUGE improvement for the Academy. Pics later.
  19. Well I did it, I pulled the trigger yesterday on a new set of La Scala II's. They should be here by 11-17... Merry Christmas to me!!![]
