  1. It'll shine when it shines. Amen to that.
  2. Three weeks ago I was looking for some KG's to complement my system and there was nothing on E-Bay or anywhere else so I made other arrangements. Tonight I look and there are no less than 9 KG speakers on E-Bay alone!!! What am I doing wrong? There are a lot in Florida. Hurricane damage? I need some advice from long time forum members here. Is patience really a virtue or what?
  3. Man, what lousy timing. I could sure use the 5.5's but I just bought an ss-3 surround and am working on a sub-12. I have been trying to mate my 5.2's with a similar line and these would sure do the trick. If the 5.5's sound anywhere near as good as the 5.2's, and I'm betting they do, that would make a good system. But don't give them away. I wouldn't take anything less than $400 for my .2's and they are older. I would pay $400 today if I had it. Put em in the closet. How old is your son? He might just really appreciate them one day.
  4. Johnson County is the same way fella's. I believe the place in the Holiday Inn at Russellville was the Millgrinder Lounge. Don't remember what the sound system was at the time. Great steaks though.
  5. Thank you sir. That helps a bunch. Now I know where to look.
  6. I purchased my KG 5.2's in 1994. Looking back at the lines it looks as if the 5.5 replaced them in 94 and were built until 1997. What was the next similar line after 97 and what would be the comparable line today? If that makes sense. From 94 to now I was crankin' those puppies and not paying attention to the Klipsch line! Thanks.
  7. My mains are KG 5.2. Thought I could pick up some used KG's but so far I haven't found any. Maybe I can find some for L/R Rear work at a later time. It's strange that my surrounds are rated at 110 w and the 5.2 is 100w. But that's fine I figure. I had read somewhere if your wire runs were over 50 feet or so you should compensate in some way but for the life of me I can't find that now. Thanks for the reply.
  8. I just purchased a set of SS-3 surrounds on the e-bay. Had to take a chance. They are still sealed from the factory. The specs were just what I thought I needed. Has anyone listened to these? Also, the wire run for these will be about 50 feet. I was thinking 12 or 14 G wire. Any thoughts on this?
  9. Colter, Might know the first time I do something like that. Oh well, maybe I will get outbid. Thanks for the info.
  10. I wish I had read this yesterday. I put in a bid for a pair of SS-3's. Now I'm worried. They are still new in the box. Has anyone seen the items. There are several out there. I figured these were close-outs from Klipsch.
  11. Thanks guys. That's what I thought. I was born at night but not last night. Panasonic STR-DE998. Just had it a month and I'm just now figuring it out. My audio/music/video experiences come from the sixties and seventies when two channels was all to reckon with. Now I am reawakening in this seven channel world kicking and screaming all the way. But I'm learning. This board helps a bunch. Thanks.
  12. I have a Panasonic amp which is rated 7.1 @ 120 watts per channel. I want to purchase two RS-25 surround speakers which are rated at 75 watts (300 peak) for my L/R backs. Will this be okay as long as I don't crank the volume up close to max? Or should I go for a higher rated wattage? Money is limited for now at $300 for a surround back pair. I'm no electrical engineer so excuse my ignorance. But I know I can get a straight answer here. Thanks.
  13. Thank you for posting that. That kept me from going into the attic and finding the RS issue packed away in boxes. How refreshing. I knew I wanted Klipsch speakers for some reason and now I know it goes back to 1975 in a subconscious article tucked into those brain cells. The ones that are left of course. Again thanks. Oh the memories. To be a rock and not to roll.
  14. Thank you for the advice. Looking back at the KG line the KG sub is rated about 34 HZ. On the surface, today's mid-price subs can get down to about 24 HZ. I noticed a lot of guys use many different brands in the subs so maybe the sub-12 would do alright. If I could find some KG 2.2's that might be a good surround back. I have an Advent center channel that is adequate now. I'll look around for some of the 2.2's unless someone has a better suggestion. Thanks again.
  15. Would a sub-12 be compatible with KG 5.2's as L/R fronts in a HT setup. Planning on adding surround backs at a later time. Looking at the Reference line for the SBacks. Any opinions or should I start over?
  16. I will look around for some used items. Thanks. Also, I have the capability to use my KG 5.2's as a separate front speaker system for audio and could still hook up a complete surround system to use for movies and music dvd's. That would take care of the compatability issue. I have been looking at the Quintet II and III system's. Again, thanks for the time and suggestions.
  17. Thank you for the reply and suggestion. Since the KG line is no longer in production I guess I am out of luck. Maybe some of the new surrounds would work as well.
  18. I want to upgrade my home theater which also serves as my music source. I have a Sony STR-DE998 receiver 120 watt/ch 7.1. My main speakers are Klipsch KG 5.2. I have a pretty good center channel speaker (not Klipsch). I need a sub, 2 side surround and 2 rear surrounds. Any suggestions as to what would be compatible with the KG 5.2's. And all for under $750 or so.
  19. My wife was playing some cd's and it just quit. The power light comes on but nothing else. No display, no nothing. I was going to take the cover off and see if there were any fuses inside that might be apparent. It had some overheating issues several years ago that I had repaired. It is a JVC RX-707VTN which, I recall as prety top of the line at the time. Of course that was 1993 or so. Might just be time for an update.
  20. Thank you for your quick replies. The pre-amp looks like a good choice as it got me to thinking that the quality of the input, if it is there on a high end receiver, might not be as good as some of the older "pure" receivers. At least now I know what to look for. Thanks again.
  21. My old receiver just died on me and I am going to replace it but all the new receivers I have looked at don't seem to have a place to hook a turntable. I can't exist without my vinyl. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.
  22. Hopefully you have purchased them by now. I got mine in 1994 for $1100/pr and they have served me very well. The only problem I have is when I really crank them up it makes my CD player skip as well as my turntable. Have not figured out that problem yet. I take the "made loud to be played loud" aspect to heart at times. Anyway that is a deal for $200.
