  1. I have a couple of Vintage H.H. Scott tube amps (222, 99A & 99C) and was wondering if they need to be connected to ground. The original AC cord is a two prong type, so back in the 50's and 60's they must not of grounded them, unless it was to the radiator. Would it be a good thing to ground these?, would it cause any harm to the amplifiers? Thanks
  2. MSRP for new Khorns is $7500.00. I think 5K is a little high for the demos.

  5. Guys, I know I've read about it a dozen times but now that I need to know I don't remember. I have a Scott 99C mono tube amp where the 6L6 tubes have a faint blue glow or halo around the top and bottom of the tube. The amp sounds good but I was wondering if this is a bad thing? BTW they are new tubes and I have new 12AX7s in the amp too. Any ideas???

  9. I know! Its a good thing I was wearing dark pants!
  10. I bought one from Home Depor thinking that it would be a great tool to have around and a safe way to teach my son how to solder. It looked great on TV so what the heck. I got it home put in new batteries and was off...to dissapointment. It was a very poor performer in my book, yes it would melt solder but it wouldn't heat the joint up where it would flow into it. Tried a new set of batteries still worked the same. I then waas able to view the commercial on it again. I paid particular attention to what they were soldering. Everything I saw them work on was of very small gague wire or tiny connection points on a circuit board. Now I wasn't attempting to join 3 strands of 12 awg solid core or anything of the sort, just a strand of 20 awg onto a pot or terminal strip. Anyway, I took the thing back, I'll rely on my plug in Weller or Portasol butane model, both work well. That's my two cents.

  17. Erik, When you post pictures of the minibox could you also post any construction tips? I've got the PWK three channel setup with a pair of KBWOs snd a Belle WO for the center but don't have a mono Scott for it. I'm using a Scott 222 for the Khorns for the time being will the minibox work with the Scott 222? Thanks!
  18. If the Scott hasn't been used in a while (a year or more) do not plug it in and turn it on!!!!! Seriously, something that old needs to be brought up slowly on a VARIAC. The caps in the unit may be leaky or otherwise defective and bringing it up under full AC power could cause it to die. I gave my Scott 222 to Craig and he did a great job. Price was around $200 for a test and repair job but not a full restoration. That included a new set of tubes too!!!
  19. Silversport, Where did you pick up the Panamax 5100? I have a 1000 that I have had since 97. I'd like to get something a bit better and for a new system. Thanks.

  23. Well, sort of... http://www.partsexpress.com/projectshowcase/jubilee/ I thought it's get a few folks riled up, it did me!!!
  24. The 1000 had a lifetime warranty. Mine worked for about 5 years then had a loud clicking sound, I sent the unit to Panamax and they sent me a new one, at no cost! You might want to check on it...
