  1. Or.... You can buy my 8001[] http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?miscrcvr&1276652684&/Marantz-SR-8001-125-x-7-powerh I'll shoot you a PM...
  2. Welcome to the forums! Do you mean RS-25's and not RC-25's, correct? The RC-25 is a center channel and the RS-25 is a surround speaker. It's not that uncommon for people to use center channels as surrounds, but it will help us help you out further. I guess either way, since you think one has a blown horn, you'll probably be looking to either replace or just purchase new surrounds all the way around? How big is your room? Typically, in a 5.1 setup, you want your surrounds to be on the side walls, slightly behind your listening position. Rear surrounds (6th and 7th channels) will go directly behind your listening position. Your room configuration, how far you sit from your back wall, will help determine what speaker will work best. I have apporoximately 7 feet from where we sit, to our back wall, so bookshelf speakers ( direct radiating) work best. The argument for using direct-radiating surround speakers for your rears, "is that discrete digital surround formats such as Dolby Digital and DTS allow for stereo surround effects, and the precise imaging characteristics of these speakers are required to accurately position these effects in the rear of the room". If you only have a couple feet and you think you really need rear surrounds, I'd probably go with RS-42's ( wide dispersion). Of course, it all boils down to your budget. If funds allow, I'd go RS-62's for your side's and either RB-61's or RS-42 for your rears. But like I said, if you don't have much room from your listening position to your back wall, you really don't need rear surrounds. Use the money you save not getting rear surrounds and put it towards a new sub[Y]
  3. Sweet setup JB! Where's your center? Love to see a few more pic's of the room..
  4. The Pac-10 is making some noise. I know it's only the first round, but Cal looked great last night. I think UW will handle New Mexico. Can't wait.. GO DAWGS!!
  5. Here's one of the many links to this topic. You will notice a big difference... http://club.myce.com/f147/does-5-1-analog-better-than-optical-239616/
  6. Just watched Hurt Locker last night and thought it was amazing. Just goes to show what the men and women who serve our country go through. From what I've heard from my friends who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, that's really how it is, then some! Those IED's are definately one of the biggest threats over there and are very hard to detect. IED's( improvised explosive devices ) and suicide bombings have killed more soldiers than any other weapon in Iraq. Great acting.. Seemed like James wasn't really happy unless he was risking his life disarming bombs. Very intense movie and well worth buying IMO.. Waiting to watch Avatar when it comes out on blu-ray. Can't wait...
  7. I think you'll be very happy with this amp.. http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstran&1272513058&/Acurus-A250-Power-Amplifier If you want an amp that will make your KLF's really sing, this would definately do it. Acurus make excellent amps.. "Company Profile Acurus was founded in 1992 as the value brand of Mondial Designs. Mondial was started with the Aragon brand, well know for its high end electronics in audiophile circles. Mondial was founded in 1986 by Paul Rosenberg and Anthony Federici, the latter of whom has since left the business. In December of 2000 Mondial was bought out by Klipsch. Paul Rosenberg is still with Mondial as the Director of Marketing and New Product Development." http://www.audioreview.com/cat/amplification/amplifiers/acurus/a250/PRD_116262_1583crx.aspx Let us know what you end up with and how it compares to your Denon.
  8. No amp... yet:) I was so close to buying the XPA-5, but the timing was bad ( wife suburban needed new tires etc...) so we just decided to wait. I had an Acurus 200X3 a while back and it made my front soundstage come alive, big time. I was powering my RF-7's, RC-7 and RS-52's with a Denon 3805 (120 wpc) and it sounded good, at least until I hooked up the amp. I didn't know what I was missing until I re-watched some of my movies. It was like I had a thick blanket over my speakers with just the denon. They were removed when I hooked up the amp.. I'll be buying the XPA-5 in a couple weeks, hopefully.
  9. Definately get an amp.. If your reciever is struggling with 7.1, it really makes no sense to do the 7.1 thing. You'd probably end up shortening the life of your reciever. When you ran the 7.1, did you have it cranked pretty loud? Or just your normal listening level? After you get the Emotiva amp hooked up and you watch your first blu-ray, you'll want to re-watch all your movies again.. At least that's what I did:)
  10. No apologies needed my friend[Y]
  11. You can buy a brand new Marantz SR-8002 from an authorized dealer for around $1300. Just because the MSRP is $2000 doesn't mean that's what you have to pay.
  12. Welcome to the forums! If money is not an issue, then why not go with the best? The RF-83 system will definately make you happy. Great choice on reciever brand! You'll find that marantz and klipsch sound excellent together. Which model are you thinking about? Also, did you have a sub in mind? You don't have to stick with Klipsch. But the RT-12 is more than capable of handling the LFE. Are you going to go 5.1 or 7.1?
  13. Oops.. Just read this.. Not your display then..
  14. The respect is mutual Falcon[Y] I guess what I was saying was, when I sold the RS-35's, and went to RS-52's, in the same exact location, I just felt I didn't really lose anything. If I did, I didn't notice it. But, you are correct.. I didn't do an A/B comparison like you did, so your opinion may be a little more concrete. Just answer me this.. In your honest opinion, do the RS-52's sound $225 better than the RS-35's?
  15. Youth, Having owned both, the difference will be minimal. For the price you paid on the RS-35's vs a new pair of RS-52's, I don't think you will hear that much of a difference. I would have to say however, that the design of the RS-52's are a little more forgiving with placement. But to compare them in the same exact location by doing an A/B, I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Sure, you can get the best and match your system accrodingly, but ultimately, it comes down to what you can afford and what sounds good to you. Just my .02
  16. Looks like you have plenty of room to put your RC-52 on a stand. I'd measure the from the floor to the bottom of the display and try and find a stand that sit's as high as you can go to put the tweeters as close to the same height as possible. Looks like a stand would be perfect. They're pretty inexpensive too. Check out this stand... They have different heights... http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_3260000000089658P?vName=For+the+Home&psid=FROOGLE&sName=Media+Furniture&cName=MediaRoom&sid=KDx20070926x00003a
  17. Did you ever end up selling your RS-52's? Did a forum member get em?
  18. 24, The First 48, Axe men, 2 and a Half men and Pawn Stars..
  19. That's it! I'm jumpin on the heritage bus! Your above post was the final straw. I've been really wanting to hear them, but couldn't force myself to like the looks. Now I don't care.. All I keep reading about is how good they sound. I'm going to take a break from the reference for a while and give the heritage a shot.. Let's see... where to start...
  20. Sweet! Your gonna love those RF-63! However, your RC-52 is not going to keep up with those 63's. You can try it out and listen for yourself, but I can assure you your going to be missing ALOT of what the RC-62 or better yet, the RC-64 has to offer. If money isn't tight and you can afford to upgrade your center, DO IT. I'd rather have no surrounds and the best center channel anyday. If you end up getting the RC-64, I'd find a stand to put it on. Do a search here in the forums for "RC-64 stands" and you'll get some ideas. If it were me, and money was tight, I'd seriously consider selling the RS-52's and RC-52 to get the RC-64. Then, you will have an awesome front stage and you can always get surrounds later down the road. If money isn't that tight, sell your RC-52 and upgrade to either the RC-62, or if you can, the RC-64. But that's just me.. Hopefully, other's will chime in and give their opinions. I'm sure Wuzzer is just turning his computer as we speak. He's a crafty vertran who give's great advice.
  21. First off, welcome to the forums. Please, DO NOT DRILL HOLES INTO YOUR SPEAKERS! I'm not sure why you think you need mounts for your RS-52's or even your RC-52? The RS-52's have keyhole brackets on the back of each speaker for mounting on the wall. I recommend flush mounting them instead of "aiming" them with speaker mounts. They are built to flushmount directly to the wall or even use on stands if need be. Just make sure you find a stud when drilling and mounting. If you can, place them about 2 feet above seated head height. Place them left and right of your seating area, a tad behind is fine, but NOT in front. I'm not quite sure why you want to mount your RC-52 either. A picture of what you are working with will help out alot. Do you have an entertainment center, a shelf under your display?
