I can honestly say, that if I was presented with this dilemma, I would buy them both. But, I have an addiction to Klipsch. In fact, I'm probably the only one on this forum with this particular affliction. Tom

Will you do it again?
tom b. 57 replied to dtel's wife's topic in Forum Meetup Planning + Past Klipsch Pilgrimages
dtel's wife, this is the best recount of the pilgrimage I have read yet. It sounds like you had a wonderful time, in fact a time to be remembered forever, what with the making of new friends and seeing old friends. This makes me feel like I missed out on a great time. I hope that sometime within the next few years I too will be able to partake in this event. I am very happy for you guys, in fact, for everyone who was able to attend. Tom -
I hope they limit it to how many they sell. I really want one but damn! $150.00, that reminds me of text books prices. I'm sure it is a fantastic book that would be very comfortable on the coffee table along with "Quad".
-
I bought the Quad book from the same author, Ken Kessler. I want to pick up the McIntosh book also, but, at the moment, I believe it can only be purchased from a McIntosh dealer and the price is a little too high for my taste. I think that in time it may be available through other sources. I will just wait a while and see. From what I have heard, the photos are fantastic and the research that Ken has done for this book is pretty great. Tom

Garage sale booty, or How to score Cornwalls by Jeremy
tom b. 57 replied to capo72's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
That is too cool! I think I need to work on my patience and start hitting garage, yard, and estate sales. Congratulations on a fantastic score. Tom -

I guess I'm not smart enough to do the alert thing. I live in the Seattle-Tacoma area so I just do a physical search on that craigslist. Once in a blue moon I get bold and adventure to the Portland Oregon site. I kind of get a kick out of doing the manual search. In doing that, I get to see all the stuff. Although, I really don't need more stuff. Got too much stuff.
-
Those have been on the Seattle craigslist a few times now. They look good. I thought about them and then realized that if I did grab them, it would be only a matter of time before I would want the real deal, Klipschorns. Then I would be saddled with the task of getting rid of them. I tend to buy things and even if I decide they are not what I am relly looking for still keep them instead of selling them like I should. I suppose when necessity hits I will have to offload some electronics and maybe, just maybe a pair of speakers or two. Tom

I'm an early riser, so, in the hours before leaving for work and after I get home from work, I check craigslist everyday. Just like you said, whether I need them or not. Just looking for a good deal on something Klipsch. I think it is a disease. Tom

Well, I made arrangements to meet with the seller after work. I talked with him last night and agreed to meet with him at 5:30 this evening. I stopped by the bank after work and was going to head towards the Luxman, but I thought I should stop home and check phone messages. Good thing I did. There was a message from the seller saying he had sold it this morning. Oh well, another one slips through my fingers. It must not have been meant to be. I will find something else just as good if I am patient and keep looking. Tom

Anyone have knowledge they would like to share about this beast? I can pick one up that is supposed to be in perfect working order for $100.00. I know it sold in 76' for $995.00 and was considered top of the line for Luxman back then. I just don't have any experience with any Luxman products. What do you think? Worth the money? Tom
-
Hey, what about a time share deal. If 12 of us split the cost, we could each have them in our home one month out of the year. Shipping them 12 times a year would be a b**** though. We would all be taking road trips at least once a year. Could be my yearly vacation. Las Vegas would take a back seat. I put my dibs on December. Tom

I kind of ride the fence on this issue. I understand the desire to want to make a good profit, but at the same time, in the short time I have been a forum member, I also understand the comradery(probably spelled this word wrong) that this forum seems to have between it's members. We are all audio enthusiasts that love our hobby. So, I don't take offense at someone trying to turn a profit, but, I think this would have been received better if it wasn't such a large profit. Nearly 50%, thats a hell of a markup between friends, or should I say, perceived friends? That sort of a deal probably should have gone to ebay, audiogon, or craigslist.

and a Happy Father's Day to you. Tom

To all you fathers out there, Happy Father's Day. I am a father of two beautiful young ladies in which one has blessed me with a beautiful granddaughter and the other is making her way through college quite successfully. Makes me proud to be a dad Tom

Will you accept nickels?

I forgot, a pair of Heresy's. Tom

I too like the sound of the KG4's. I don't listen to mine much anymore, now I listen to my Cornwalls and my ESS Heil AMT1B's. I don't foresee getting rid of the 4's though. They will fit in somewhere. They were my first vintage Klipsch purchase just a short year ago, now look at me, 2 pairs of Cornwalls, the KG4's, pair of KG4.2's, pair of KG5.5's, a pair of Forte's, and a pair of SF-1's( retired to a carton). Oh yes and the ESS Heil AMT1B's and ESS Heil PS1220's. I think I need help. Tom

How important is a variac in regards to the life of a tube or a tube audio component? Are they worth owning? I can pick one up for $25.00. I've heard of people using them but not sure if it is essential or just something else electrical to play with. Is this a fair price? The thing looks quite old. It is an Ohmite brand. Tom

I recently purchased a 2910 brand new for $279.00 and it is fantastic for audio. At the price you can pick one up nowadays, you should jump on one. I a-b'd it against a $1300.00 cd only player and this thing sounded better. This has been one of my best purchases yet. With more to come, hopefully. . Tom

I'm kinda lookin' to get the wind knocked out of me from time to time. My concerns with them being pro amps is, 1) do I need special cables or cords to hook them up to a preamp? 2) Will my McIntosh C-26 or my Phase Linear 3000 II work well as preamps? 3) I have 12 and 14 gauge speaker wire with no connectors on the ends, will this be fine? 4) What is a good price for a 200wpc unit 5) what model should I be keeping my eye out for? Thanks, Tom
-
Duke, tell me more about these QSC amps. Are they pro amps? Any info. would be appreciated. Tom
-
Your assumption is correct. I played two lps and that was enough to tell me something aint right here. Thanks for the word of warning though. I actually knew after the first but thought I would try a second just in case. They weren't two of my favorites though. Tom

Is an Adcom amp GFA-545 II, worth $195.00. How well does it match up with Conwalls or any other Klipsch for that matter. There is one that has been offered on Craigslist now a few different times. Is the seller asking too much? I am curious about the quality of sound and the reliability of this amp. Anyone have any experience with this amp? Tom
-
Yes, I have been cleaning the vinyl. It just sounds like crap. Strange, because it didn't sound quite as bad at the sellers home. One of those things I guess! Tom
