  1. Voom has more than just the 40 HD channels, they have TLC, comedy central, CNN, HBO, etc... just like DirecTV. Voom won't get you NFL Sunday ticket or special packages like that. It's a company only less than 1 year old so I want to make sure it will stick around after I invest a lot of dough. Dish Network just dropped Comedy Central and MTV and some other channels from their service so I definitely wouldn't go with them in the future.
  2. We all hear so much about Dish vs. DirecTV but who's got Voom TV? I hate my cable and want to switch to a satellite provider and I have an HD set so HD programming would be cool. Voom TV has close to 40 HD channels so I'm looking for people who subscribe to voom and their corresponding opinions. It's like $750 for the whole kit & kaboodle which they claim is less than DirecTV because Voom provides an off air antenna free installed so you can get your locals in HDTV. Send me a line so I know who to choose. You always hear 3 rooms of DirecTV for free but I'm looking for one of those sets to be HD but when you always ask how much extra for the one HD box, they never give me a straight answer. Guess they are too wrapped up in their promotion deals giving away 25 dollar DVD players with a 1 year subscription. Thanks.
  3. I prefer not to open the backs of the speaker. It's pretty solid and I'd hate to ruin them. Here's an idea, Does klipsch make longer feet? I suppose I could hit a hardware store and manufacture some feet out of a long screw but I'm not sure I could match the threading or the color (black). Does anyone know if they sell replacement spikes? maybe some 6 or 8 inchers will do.
  4. Turning off the amp has nothing to with my problem. The amp doesn't even have to be on. The speaker isn't even on. Just the unpowered unused speaker's magnet alone distorts the screen. It's weird. I have feet on the speaker protruding roughly 3 inches but obviously that's still not tall enough to retard the shielding.
  5. When I take the speaker away and fix the convergence on the TV, it goes away so I know it's not the screen.
  6. I have a KLFC7 center channel sitting on top of my big screen. The other day I noticed a rainbow prism in the center of the screen shining up toward the KLFC7. It's only noticable when you stand up directly in front of the screen looking over down the front of it. At normal viewing level and angle it's totally unoticeable. I imagine this is not good for the TV and was wondering what my methods should be to rectify it? Should I place a piece of plywood under the speaker? The magnet is obviously strong enough to get through the speaker box. Do you think it'll go through another 3/4" piece of plywood? It would look cheesy/tacky on top of the TV but maybe if I painted it black or something it'd be better. Have any of you run across this before and what did you do? Thank you.
  7. I was told by the dealer that by adding a Denon POA 5200 to my Denon AVR5700, that I could achieve 7.1 sound in my home theater. However, I have no idea how to set it up and test the tones on all 7 channels. As far as I can tell the POA 5200 will just amplify my output but don't I still need another input source to get the 2 extra channels? Is that like a decoder or another AV receiver or something? Can someone please help and if so it's the speaker wires I'm most concerned about. The POA5200 has 2 sets of leads and my AVR5700 has 5.1 but 2 sets of leads for surrounds (same channel A&. So which pieces of the 7.1 do I connect to the AVR5700 and which to the POA5200? Thanks.
  8. I recently installed my speakers in a new room and forgot how high I had my surrounds mounted in my other house. If I remember correctly it was recommended to use 5'7". The manual recommends 6-8 feet. My question is which dimension is accurate? Top of the speaker? Bottom of the speaker? Middle of the speaker? These are 15 inches tall so what does everybody recommend? I know you'll all say "whatever sounds best" but I don't feel like making swiss cheese in my drywall. I had the perfect height in my old setup. I just wish I would have written that dimension down. Please advise. Thanks.
  9. I'm sorry that's what I meant to say. DC. Like a regular fan you plug in the wall. The smallest ones at wal-Mart or K-mart are like 8 inches. I need something like half that. Preferably a clip on so I can clip it to the leg on my entertainment rack.
  10. Have you ever seen those people that walk around on hot days outside (usually at carnivals or something) with little tiny personal 3 inch fans powered by a D-cell battery? Where can I find a similar AC powered fan to run across the top of my amp to keep it cooler? I didn't see any at Radio Shack or any on ebay. Anyone have links or stores if you know what I'm talking about? Cheers.
  11. I can't figure this out but hopefully one of you can help me. Every once in a while maybe once or twice a month I come home from work and my Denon 5700 is powered up for no particular reason. I have it plugged into a surge protector power strip and nobody else has a key to my house so I know there is nobody else using my stereo. Does anybody have any clue why my receiver mysteriously turns itself on? I can't link it to a particular time either (i.e. storms or lightening). It seems totally random. Once I find out why, how do I fix it? In other words if it turns on itself how can I get it to turn off itself? Some kind of timer perhaps? Thanks.
  12. If you don't have an HDTV it's not going to matter anyway.
  13. hit Ctrl+A to select all and then ctrl+C to copy it. Then submit it. If it times out you have a copy to paste for another try. I thought everybody did that. It's not brain surgery.
  14. Conduit is the biggest waste of your time for speaker wire and totally useless. Just run your wires through the walls by themselves. Conduit is conpletely unecessary for speakers. You can't even tell the difference. Conduit is only in existance to give electrical unions work. Workers bending pipe take 3 times as long to wire a house therefore making more money and wasting yours. Typical lazy union member. Most codes use Romex to wire homes because that's all that's necessary. The pipe will not reduce any speaker wire noise for you. It's a myth.
  15. This is precisely why I asked. If I have my front mains on the separate amp, can't I put these quintets on the AVR 5700 as the main speakers. Won't they just be like extra sound up front? They don't necessarily need their own 2 channels? I'm not sure how I'm going to setup this 7.1 with my new amp. I bought it and moved at the same time so my theater isn't setup yet. Does anyone else out there have the same scenario where they need to use a separate amp to drive an extra set of speakers as well as hooking up the HT receiver that's 5.1 itself? I just thought of another Idea too. The AVR 5700 has A/B surround. So I could have my KLF 30's up front, KSP S6's on the sides, KLF 10's in the back (A) and Quintets in the back (. Maybe that's a better setup. What do you think?
  16. So my Denon with output of 120W per channel is not compatible with these quintets?
  17. I have a Denon 5700 home theater receiver and a separate Denon 2 channel Amp so I can run 7.1. I also have a chnace to pick up a pair of quintets for $70 and I want to use them as front effect speakers between my center and mains. 1) Can this be done and if so, how? The 7.1 setup is already accomplished but these extra effect speakers won't be part of 7.1, just for extra effect I guess. I'm not sure what you call that? 9.1? I'm mostly looking for what to hook to my speaker terminals on the receiver(s) I would think the separat 2 channel amp would drive the fronts, but what do I put on my front speaker terminals on the 5700? 2) Is that a good price for a pair of quintets? AND 3) Are quintets good for this reason? Normally they are used for fronts in a smaller setting anyway right? They're for people that don't have room for KLF 30's like I have. I think the quintets are rated at 200W. Thanks, Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
  18. What really matters is what looks good to you. If you can get them side by side in the showroom that's a good comparison. A lot of these plasma's aren't even made by the name on the set. Panasonic has been making them the longest and they have one of the best screens out there, but where the name changes are the electronics in the set (audio, video jacks, speakers, etc...) Many (not all) plasma displays themselves will be Panasonic. I recently looked at the Panasonic 50" and toshiba 50". Same tv screen, different name on the set. Sony is a rip off and their plasma's are far inferior to Panasonic, Toshiba, B&O, Elite, Fujitsu. They are all better than the Sony. I saw a sony and it was like looking through clouds compared to the brands listed above I demoed. the new 60" fujitsu is amazing if you have the $25,000 to blow on it.
  19. A lot of us have THX certified equipment and talk about demo DVD's but the movie makers just aren't producing THX stuff on DVD. I haven't seen one new release recently that is THX. The last one I saw was Star Wars. Why have 6.7, 7.1 and beyond of the movie makers aren't making DVD's past 5.1? It's a cost issue I imagine.
  20. AV man what do you mean by pre amp outs? Is that a non speaker wire connection?
  21. Can somebody explain the difference between the three above? I have a Denon AVR5700 that can run 8.1 with external sources but I don't know how or what that means. The manual mentions a decoder but that's it. Do I need more receivers, amps or what? Furthermore what is the definition on anything above 5.1? I thought 6.1 was a center channel in the back. Some say it's front effect speakers between the center and mains. Any other opinions out there? Once that's decided can someone tell me what 7.1 or even 8.1 is? I think Onkyo even has a 9.1 right now if I'm not mistaken. Anyhow, what stemmed this whole debacle was my purchase of a second KLF C7 center to use in my center rear. Question is....HOW? I am currently running 5.1 with two sets of surrounds. 2 in back and 2 on the side. I have no more speaker terminals on my Denon to run effects or another rear center. What do I do next? Any help out there? Thanks.
  22. You also have to watch for shielding. If I put my KLF 30's too close to the set the magnets distort my color TV. I also have them set about 10 to 12 feet apart and i'm pleased with the sounds.
  23. I have a two part question. I noticed that all these home theater systems have no graphic equalizers. Are they outdated? Do they serve a purpose in today's home theater world? If so what are some good brands and models? My dad has an old Teac sitting in his basement collecting dust. Is Teac any good? Part 2: Does anyone in the world know how to hook up Picture in Picture using the stereo receiver and the cable box or DSS? I have the internal PIP tuner on my flat screen so I don't think I need the VCR as the external source tuner, but I cannot figure out how to use PIP with all this other equipment. All the major big screens and new tv's offer this PIP feature but if you are buying such expensive home theater equipment anyway, you figure subscribing to DSS or cable is going to be obvious. But then the PIP feature isn't so attractive because it's not easily used anymore. I'd like to hear your thoughts and possible solutions. I've even seen big screens that offer like a 9 way PIP with half the TV full screen and then the other half with 8 mini screens so to speak.
  24. before I bought my KLF 30's, I went to United Audio which is now called Tweeter. I notice you live in MN and I'm in IL, so I'm not sure if you have Tweeter up there for an audio store. Anyhow, I listened to them there but did not buy them. I could have only bought like 1/2 a speaker at Tweeter for what I got my whole set for over the WWW. Search and you will find some great deals out there. Most with warranties still from the factory too. -User Name Happy Hunting
  25. I recently read the pawn shop finds in another thread on a great deal for Cornwalls. I was wondering why someone chooses Cornwalls over Legends? The Cornwall only has 1 sub, 1 mid, & 1 tweeter, while the Legends have 2 subs built in. I know you are all going to tell me it's personal preference and sound is different to everybody, but can anyone give me another reason why they'd choose Cornwalls over Legends (say KLF 30's)? I'm strictly talking sound wise and nothing about size and room for speakers in the house. Just curious. I love my Legends, and I wonder what all your Cornwalls, and La Scalas, and Heritages sound like. I guess there really is no best right? Different lines of Klipsch's just keep coming out over the years. Great sound is in the ear of the beholder I guess you could say. Let me know your thoughts. user name
