The salesmen were like vultures, and all competed with one another. ---------------- With this information in mind, use it to your advantage! Call and talk to a salesperson today. Get their name and ask them point blank "Am I going to be able to buy 2 pairs of RF-7's from you during the sale for $1300 (or whatever you feel comfortable with)a pair? Nothing else. You don't want him to SELL you something and give advice, you want to BUY 4 RF-7's and he (or she) should be lucky you asked for them! If they can't at that price, maybe they can give you some insight on what they can sell them for. If there are more than one American TV stores in your area, call the one that you are NOT going to first and try to get the sales person to commit (if they do, get in the car and drive). If they don't you haven't lost anything before you go into your local store to wheel and deal.

Thanx for your time, Jeremy ---------------- You appear to be a person who goes into purchases with the same mindset as myself. The main thing I was trying to convey is that I hope you can get them for "$550 to $600 a piece," but I find it highly unlikely. If you REALLY want 4 RF-7's be prepared to pay at least (IMO) $1400 to $1600 a pair and even at that price you will probably have to already have a good (if not great) relationship with your salesperson. You will also have a speaker system that will NEVER have to be upgraded. The other point I was making was, make sure they have them in stock (He11, call them today and see if they are there!)--If not, I don't think they are going to give you the "Sale" price you are expecting. I hope you get the deal you are comfortable with. Please keep us informed on how it goes. The upper end Reference are truly works of Art!

Based on the number of movies I have heard on the system, I would have to disagree with TDKAmerica in that the two mains do not carry nearly the load that the center channel does - dialogue or not. So, would you be better with RB35 or RB75s for mains? Yes. But, RB25s are not that large of an investment. I would try it out for awhile, and then if you think the RB25s cannot cut it - upgrade down the road. ---------------- Well Zam, There is a consensus on the RC-7. However, I didn't say that the 2 front channels carried the same load as the center channel. What I said was "your front mains are just as important as your center channel when it comes to movies, unless all you are concerned with is dialog." What I meant by that was if you were ONLY concerned with dialog, your front speakers wouldn't matter. As everyone has stated, an upgrade from the RB-25's will make a difference, it's just what you are expecting and are willing to accept and pay for. I have 3 home theater systems. I have had my RF-7 for over 2 years and don't feel the need to upgrade. If I would have started with the RF-7's I could have saved money in the long run. When I mentioned "peripheries" in my above post I sure wasn't talking about speakers! In my mind if you are going to the trouble to dedicate a whole room to "Home Theater," your speakers are one of, if not most important investment for this endeavor. All that being said, I agree to stay on budget. If you purchase the RB-25's and are pleased, that is all that counts.

And yes louder for most people sounds better. In the afternoon, about 1/2 way through, they were very very close to me. And no confusion from Steve Phillips too. A vs B. I think the TRUTH is..... your looking for a way to justify your choices. Just leave it, that on that day, you liked A or B. For whatever reason, that was your choice. ---------------- That sure sounds presumptuous given the fact that: A) Trey admitted the situation earlier in the thread (A was louder when my group auditioned the speakers) and For what it's worth, in my group on the last switching (not every switching) of the speakers there was a mistake (or a misunderstanding by several people in my group) between which was A and B, but then confirmed by Steve, which one we were listening to. I may have preferred "A" if given the situation everything was equal, but I am not convinced it was and loudness was an issue for me.
  7. Ummm..."50% off mark up at employee discount" and dealers cost (Wholesale) are not necessarily the same (cost of doing business is a factor). I wouldn't get my hopes up of scoring a pair of new RF-7's for $1000-$1200. I hope you can and if you do please let us know. Two things to consider are: 1) I bet the sale has to do with "in stock" items--Make sure they have the RF-7's in stock and 2) If you can get them between $1400 and $1600 you will be getting a steal!!!!!! Good luck
  8. My final thoughts after reading other posts and seeing your potential HT is that RB-25's will sound fine. Will they work as well as the other speakers I have mentioned? IMHO, not for your left and right mains, especially if you are going to the trouble of building a dedicated HT room. It is true that most dialog in movies comes out of your center channel, but it is only one of three speakers for your front sound stage. Can you adjust the gain with an SPL meter so all front speakers have the same level? Yes. Will the quality of sound coming from 2 speakers with 5 inch horns (1" driver) and single 6.5" woofer compare with speakers using an 8" horn (1.75" driver} and either 1 or 2, 8" to 10" woofers? Maybe to some peoples ears, but demo it yourself. The RC-7 has 2, 8" woofers with an 8" Horn (1.75" driver). Matching them with comparable front mains will give you more of the WOW factor in movies and will be tremendously more beneficial for music, effects, & soundtrack. I own 7 different models of Klipsch reference speakers and I can attest that they all timber match well--But your front mains are just as important as your center channel when it comes to movies, unless all you are concerned with is dialog. My 2 cents...
  9. I procrastinated and missed out on a good deal on a Sunfire 400/7 from a fellow forum member. Live and learn.

I heard the THX set up at the Klipsch pilgrimage. I wouldn't trade my Reference HT for what I heard at the same price point. Considering I paid at least half as much for my system (and I have 2 more speakers;-), I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase. That being said, the upstairs demo (at the Pilgrimage}using the 3 LaScallas up front with the 2 THX subs----WOW! I am considering building a larger Theater Room and using upper end Heritage, because it DID sound slightly better than what I have. From my understanding the RF-7 was designed mainly for Home Theater use with 3 other speakers and a sub. I am glad to hear a 2 channel aficionado {edit: Oops I thought this was a 2 channel post} feel they stack up to the Klipschorn for stereo.
  11. ---------------- On 7/8/2005 11:49:43 AM damonrpayne wrote: I thought about this some more. Was anyone else relieved with what they heard during the listening test? I've not done blind A/B tests before, so this was my first chance to confirm to myself that I can indeed hear the differences in different systems. I've read things that state humans do not have very good sonic memory, so going from one person's house to another will befuddle what you hear. ---------------- That was my first "official" A/B test. I chose "A" and after finding out the results, wondered why I didn't think "B" sounded anywhere near as good (considering what I own). Because of my naivete in this situation I chose the louder of the two speakers. I am glad that Trey cleared that up earlier in this thread. I think if they had been "level matched," I would still be a newbie, but would be forced to try and describe what I was hearing differently. Live and learn.
  12. Zam, I just saw your in progress set up in the "Show me" thread. It's going to be VERY nice. If you are going to spend that kind of money on peripheries, I definitely would consider better mains to go with the RC-7!
  13. I have an RC-7 that I run with some RB-75's that works great with my Denon AVR. You will have to adjust the gain down on the RC-7 (or up on the RB 25's). IMO it will work and sound good--But I would be on the lookout for RF-7's, RF-5's or RB-75's (in that order) either used or on sale evidutally to use as your mains. Evidently you are on a budget and I would stick to it. A couple of other options to consider, if you are open to buying used, would be: 1) If space is an issue, finding a pair of RB-5's (Bookshelf) would be a good match to use with the RC-7 (or RC-3 if you can find one) 2) If space isn't an issue finding a pair of KLF 20's or 30 towers to use with a KLF C-7 center(legend series) would be a sweet set up for about the cost you would be paying for the RC-7/RB-25 combo, new. Good Luck

First confirm the return policy at Bestbuy. Then when you purchase it and open the box, be very careful, making sure you keep everything as pristine as you can. Demo it for several sessions and then decide. I feel you will be impressed. If not take it back! Good luck

Those against the Iraq war constantly try to play down Al Qaeda involvement in it. ---------------- The Afghanistan war understood by most of the WORLD and not just Americans. Insofar as the Iraq War is concerned... Let me respond this way. When you say: "I know how the English responded to the IRA and Sinn Fein. Rather than being wiped out, they now have great political power throughout Ireland." I agree. The Iraq War has strengthened Muslim extremists resolve and enrollment in Al Qaeda and other Muslim extremist groups. I will disagree with what could have happened if Bin Laden and Mullah Omar would have been killed and we didn't go into Iraq. I realize that this is just my opinion and there are others that totally disagree. I respectfully will leave this discussion. This truly saddens me. I have stayed at hotels at both Russell Square and Edgware Road in London. As an American I can't help but think this event ironically is going to raise anti-American sentiment in Europe in general, and especially in England.
  17. Hey Steve--Great synopsis of the experience! I appreciate the kind words and it was nice finally meeting you. I look forward to seeing you next year if Klipsch will have us again.

  21. Wow!!!! It says there are 720 members and 2630 Anonymous users on line now and not very much activity. I can't remember seeing that many folks on line before. Is it a server glitch?
  22. I have both the 3910 and the 2910. They both are good machines (i.e. I have had no problems with mine). The 2910 is a better deal for the $$$$ IMHO. Check out the AVS Forum for the owner's thread for the 2910. It's also a good resource to find out about firmware updates and settings.
