  1. OB's a stand up guy. He knows that the heart of the Fourm rests on the wiligness of people to follow through on their commitments. Nope. He's not afraid to take one for the Forum. Hey, sometimes these things just happen Dis guy, RePlace, is trying to welch on his word. I'm just doing what's needed to keep the joint on the up and up. It's been 16 hours. Lookin bad. Gonna miss ya Buck! Darn it OB, gonna miss you bad. This forum just won't be the same. Your wit, charm, and personality are a daily highlight for me. Once you're gone I may just hang it up myself. Now that you know how much I personally will miss you, can I have your Cornwalls and Scott? Harry
  2. Sorry, the V.A. hospital changed my meds. I fear I'm teeter-tottering on goin' Postal on some puke! Semper Fi mac!!! Harry
  3. Right nut?.... maybe after someone stops him his new name on eBay will be nonads.... Someone otta break his friggin knee caps, take a hammer to his teeth, and give him a Draino Enima. It makes it much easier to explain to the maggot that he's not being nice and proper social conduct should be observed at all times. But that's just me. I'm a nice guy for the most part. Harry
  4. Guess his lucky # just got pulled from the bucket. bad spot of luck ol' chap. Harry
  5. Congrats on the OO FII's. Killer speakers. You can never have enough speakers. The KG-4 is also a nice speaker and if they're nice you oughta grab 'em too. Harry
  6. Marty, Go on ahead and do 'em. I'd keep the cart if that was the only repercussion. Harry
  7. I try to cut out the Infinity. The crossover mounting is plastic and melts easily. The glue does NOT melt easily. DO NOT PRY ON THESE!!! The glue on some of these is spread everywhere and you can't get to most of it. That's what makes it so tedious to get out. Take your time, don't force anything, and particularly watch removing the attenuators. The solder joints are on the edges of the boards and the boards seperate and break very easily. Harry
  8. Just a little bit of advice on the Infinity crossover repair. The caps and boards are "glued" in to the panel. The boards are extremely fragile and utmost care and patience should be taken in working on these. I do them all the time and on occasion still damage a board. Pic attached of Infinity showing the glue. Harry
  9. Could the reverse now be contributing to the return of vinyl. Many cd's are pretty lousy and I know how frustrating it is to buy a new cd and there's no substance to it. I've got an "A" selection, "B" selection, and "lousy" selection It all comes down to the "bean counters" making the decisions to save a penny. Vinyl went down hill due to the cost cutting measures and making the vinyl so thin it didn't last any time at all. Recordings were accepted and quality mattered not. Just quantity. We're seeing the same things with CDs. Many of my favorite companies have gone "down the drain" due to the cheap pricks destroying a great/good product just to make their own corporate existence seem important. They care not about the product at all. Just the bottom line. The bottom line will be "red" and the company will be selling Hong Kong rubber dog poop before it finally closes the doors. Sooner or later the bean counters will destroy the companies that hire them to "turn a profit". We're seeing it everywhere. Some of our favorite products have been outsourced at the expense of labor force, quality, and customer loyalty. They'd better wake up and take a good look in the mirror before it's too late. I'm glad vinyl is making a strong comeback. Quality does matter. I'm tired of wasting my hard earned money on crapola. Harry
  10. Very cool Bill. I Lost my dad in february. About a month ago I restored his favorite old tube radio we listened to hundreds of ball games on. I couldn't count how many trips we made to the drug store "Tube tester" because of that old radio. Nice to see some things won't change. Well done. Harry
  11. I love the sound of good vinyl. I have a nice private collection that's all pristine. I keep them stored in a closet under lock and key. I also don't have the time to mess with vinyl. I'm lucky to get time late at night to listen to one album once a week or so. The tube HDCD player is a good compromise for just normal "background" listening. Grab the remote and have decent music playing. Glad to see vinyl is experiencing a resurection. I just started collecting nice turntables again. Can't beat the sound with a good set up. Harry BTW, Dave you made some very nice recordings. Thank you
  12. Steve, I broke a clutch cable on my '90th Anniversary Edition last wednesday afternoon and while at the HD shop I saw the blue on a loaded out "dresser". It looks very classic and the depth of the Pearl is so nice especially when the light lays on it. Do the blue. The black and grey finish on my '93 had to go after a while. I ended up buying all new painted parts from an '86 CR with the red candy and black sided inlay tanks. The black and red paint scheme broke up the overall black look. Harry Harry
  13. Age has nothing to do with price. You'll likely find out you'll have the same money vs audio issues no matter your age. You'll always be looking for better sound and find out you can always do better for just a few bucks more than you have to spend. Harry
  14. A little help needed here. I picked up 3 pairs of Large AR speakers at a local auction wednesday morning. These include the AR9, AR9LSI, and AR90. (I also bought about 150 pieces of new, used, and NOS ES Sony Hi-Fi gear. Amps, pre, tuners, TTs, etc.) These came out of an estate of the owner of a Sony Retail Store and the deceased had purchased all new drivers for all these speakers. I noticed when replacing drivers and doing a couple of refoams that the capacitors on the AR90's are 350 uF, 80uF, and a couple of "normal" sizes. Does anyone know of a quality capacitor that won't break my wallet in restoring these old beauties? My normal contacts are very expensive and I'm not sure about computer grade caps for these. Harry
  15. Kudos Max! Music is an art. Reproduction of music is an art. Thank you for sharing. Harry
  16. I did the same thing about 6 months ago. It got me playing all the old 45's and 33's from the British Invasion times. Killer trip down memory lane for this old fart. I remember my first and only pair of Beatles boots. It was back in the day of flat top haircuts and high top tennis shoes. I was looked at pretty differently because I had hair over my ears and weird glasses. Times are much different. Harry
  17. Bringing up any old gear on a Variac isn't a bad idea. A Variac will isolate many dangerous voltage issues in case of shorts. Back in '86 I was working for an authorized consumer electronics repair center working on home appliances. There was a VCR model (Zenith if I remember) that would actually send the 110V through the modulator where the cable screws on the "IN" plug. The Variac would keep you from getting lit up like Chevy Chase. I like to bring up all electronics I'm not familiar with on a Variac when I first fire them up. Just a safety precaution as much as anything. Nice to bring up the old caps up slow on a Variac but not necessary. I believe I read a post by NOS here stating the caps would probably go bad in a short time anyway so why variac them to start with. Bad or weak should be replaced anyway. I may be wrong but I think that was the general jist of the statement. Made sense to me. A variac is probably the best surge protector too. The strips are mostly useless except as an "on/off" switch and extra receptacles. Congrats on the "Tube" experience. The old Heritage ain't bad on the tubes eh? Harry
  18. Pas 2 with a nice quad of Tele's I pulled out until I get the bugs ironed out. I've got it sounding pretty good but I can tell it needs a freshen up. Harry
  19. I picked up this morning for $5.99 at the local Goodwill. Harry
  20. Mike, All testing was done on the EDS 88A Cap analyzer, B&K 881 and an analog multimeter to make sure of drainage. Some of the tolerances ran up to 15% and high ESR was indicated by the meters. Just simple basic tests that only take seconds. I've found the same thing with Dayton and Solens also. Harry
  21. There's probably some good old stock left laying around but the newer ones I've ordered tested out all over the place and many were noisy. It's like they quit caring about quality control. Maybe it's just me but I think it's the manufacturer producing below standard parts. Harry
  22. The Heresy will be your best match for sound and will fit your size requirements. Harry
