  1. no way on the amps and cd player, as they need dc power, and a true sine wave converter to handle the wattage is hundreds. Matters on the subs, but they are surely "useable", probably won't sound good though. Most car audio subs are designed to make use of cabin gain, and are spl oriented.
  2. 2-3 months ago, the going rate on ebay was 1400 for cherries new, and 1000 for maple. I don't remember if shipping was included or not. They go for 1000-1300 on audiogon, ish
  3. My basement has a pole in the center, so my ht will either have the screen against the pole, and half the basement behind it, or the seating up against the pole, with half my basement behind the seating. Which would sound better?
  4. I thought it did, but sitting in front of it with the manual, II don't really understand it. Talking about eq in or out, and no talk about boosting frequencies etc. What model? crown xti 2000, 8 0hm mj-18
  5. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=51 (parameters on the left side are the 8ohm) 2 enclosures, each with 2 18's. 15ish cubic feet sealed with 10lbs polyfill each. running off a crown xti2000 another note- I'm starting to design a ht for my basement, and was wondering if it is better to have open space infront of the ht (behind the screen), or behind the seating. My basement has a pole dead center, so I'll have the screen up against it, and half my basement behind the screen, or the screen on a wall and my seating up against the pole
  6. Try to fix the pretty severe rolloff. I knew it would be an issue with the higher fs and sealed design.
  7. Denon blew up, so I'm getting a new one tomorrow. New apartment has severe volume problems until I move everything downstairs. Once I'm set up and can finally do some measurements and tweaking, I'll have a big write up.
  8. nevermind, it only kinda works. Digital in's don't work. Sub out doesn't work. Even with an analog signal, if i switch from stereo to dolby pl IIx, no sound. Won't run the speakers on small.........
  9. I'm looking at buying an inexpensive 31 band for my sub channel and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I'm looking at the behringer dsp1124p and the fbq3102. Might have the budget for the deq2496, but what am I getting for the extra $200? http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHDSP1124P http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHFBQ3102 http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHDEQ2496 or the mono bassis unit for $400.......
  10. thanks for the info. If I got it, itd be to play commerical free music all day in my apartment (student, at home 21 hours a day). I can't stand hearing the same commercials 15 minutes of every hour, this summer I've listened to the same radio station about 10 hours a day, and the music's great, but I just can't stand the home equity loan bullshit. Only digital cable has music channels..... I might investigate some of the internet radio websites, one of my friends said its the same and free, I'll have to see. I expect the quality is quite low so people with slow connections can stream
  11. probably fine, might do a full range frequency sweep with this for peace of mind http://www.nch.com.au/tonegen/index.html
  12. Is anyone using xm or sirius? How does it sound? Which is better? What components did you buy? etc etc These are all I could really find: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-QqbCzFpZyxm/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=212550&I=107XRT12 xm tuner by polk audio $230 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-QqbCzFpZyxm/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=212550&I=607SRH550 sirius tuner $270
  13. Only way you could even start to achieve car audio volumes without going into price ranges of a new car is diy. Lots of people like the synergy sub-12. Other big brands are velodyne, svs, and hsu. The size of your room is EVERYTHING. In a gigantic room, you'll need to spend thousands to keep up with rf-35's, in a small room, $500 would be plenty. I moved my system from my dorm room to a 6000 cubic foot basement, and my single 12" sub went from very powerful to absolutely left in the dust by my mains.
  14. WHOOOOOOOOOO! (at least 8 words not in the childrens dictionary) suck on that- 1.21 gigawatts
  15. if its only during certain parts of certain recordings, can't we rule the speakers out? do a sine wave sweep with nch tone generator or equivalent, if theres a problem frequency that'll find it
  16. shopping for receivers.... Sometime, maybe 3 years from now, I'm going to buy a big amp like the mps-1 or equivalent. I plan to still have the receiver I'm about to buy, and obviously the amplifier section won't be doing anything. Are the processing sections in $300 receivers any different than in $500 receivers? The denon I just got done with, the avr-1906, did everything I wanted it to. I guess I'm asking what I should buy found a pioneer elite vsx-52tx for $400 ish, denon avr-1906 refurb for $300, denon avr-2106 refurb for $360
  17. I just read the entire manual and didn't see a reset thing. I'll email denon. Insurance is $500 deductible per claim. Receiver cost me $270 refurb on ebay I lied about the static getting louder with volume I'll update my avatar when I get into my new apartment, and the subs are up front
  18. no yes, and the extremely faint static gets louder with the volume just a 1 into 6 splitter job
  19. A few hours after a lightning storm my newish denon will power on and everything acts perfect, except no sound regardless of input or speaker output channel. Everything else on the circuit is fine. Any ideas?
  20. a perfect circle- the package (definetely a reference demonstration track) kenny wayne sheppard band- blue on black metallica- anesthesia, orion, the god that failed, my friend of misery black sabbath- war pigs boston- peace of mind, rock and roll band lynyrd skynyrd- gimme three steps RUSH. THE WHO. IRON MAIDEN.
  21. I think that in a small room with a small budget, devoting the $400 from an entry level commercial sub into better mains is worth it. Even rf-3's or rf-35's with a receiver would kill any computer system and your only looking at $650. If you end up starving for bass, go diy
  22. are we talking about levels during "background" music, or level when you just sit in your chair to listen to music. If I'm on the computer, I have music at around 80. If I'm doing a routine "listening session" I have levels in the 100-115 range for about 30 minutes, maybe an hour on a concert dvd. In my car, it hurts my ears to have 100db for 20 seconds, just so much distortion. The rf-7's are so effortless and clear. 0 cringe factor during the 20th anniversary of the construction of my dorm last semester, they had a big party/carnival thing out front, but had no tunes! I went to my room on the 7th floor, opened the window and put on guns 'n roses. Put the rf-7's on small at 80hz to be safe, and had sustained 120+ db in my room for an hour. Out front I converted 500 people to klipsch............ if you're only after sq and not the physical sensation of 110db+, why not spend $100, put loudspeakers to shame, and buy some headphones Might have a bridge collapse under me tommorow - carpe diem
