  1. Well Since I have decided to go a full heritage ht one of my pairs of rf7's has to go. This pair is in mint 10/10 condition. Not a scratch anywhere on the speakers.Consecutive serial numbers. I purchased this set 2 months ago from an authorized klipsch dealer. I have all the paperwork, and boxes. Local pickup only unless you are willing to risk ups handling these speakers. My price is $800. You are more than welcome to come and audition/ pick them up in Fort Wayne, IN. I would consider trading them for a pair of lascalas in good shape.
  2. Thanks for all the offers. I was a little hesitant about letting it go, but it is overkill for my currently in progress heritage ht!
  3. I have tried it with the xlr inputs and everything works fine. As far as impendance matching I did not run into a problem connecting it to my onkyo, just dialed in the gains on the qsc to match it with the rest of my system. As far as noise a cannot hear it from my listening position at 12 feet away my ps3 is louder. I'm sure your rf7's would appreciate it. Included is a picture showing that right at the front of the unit I cannot measure spl from the fan on the lowest setting of my spl meter which is 60. The second picture shows the scuffs at the top.
  4. I bought this plx 2402 amp a couple of months ago from a friend who used it in his recording studio. The amp has never been driven hard. There are a few light scuffs on the top from being rack mounted. I no longer need it as I have switched main speakers and do not need the power. It is the best amp I have heard with rf7's. Will come with manual, box, power cord, and 1/4 to rca adapters. My asking price is $425 firm plus shipping and add 3% if using paypal. Visit this link for full specifications:http://www.qscaudio.com/products/amps/plx/plx.htm
  5. Glad to see you like the rf7's. It was nice meeting you and your son and just wait until the wife leaves the house! Also thanks for the compliment.
  6. yes I have decided to let a pair of rf7's go as I have the wifes aproval for a nice heritage line purchase. She said I had to let one pair of rf7's go before I bring in anything else.
  7. Sent you an email the other day will send again
  8. Buyer backed out so the rc7 is still for sale.
  9. Klipsch rc7 in black ash. I'm the second owner I purchased it from another klipsch forum member. It is in excellent shape with only a couple little scratches on the back. I have the original box, owners manual, jumpers and everything else that came with it. I'm asking $425 plus shipping or you can pick it up. I will accept paypal ,add 3% to cover the fees. Located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
  10. No need to drop 5500. Go over to onecall and right now you can get a pair for 4250 shipped in either cherry or walnut.
  11. Head over to avsforum.com and go into the rear projection sub forum. Since you did not list the specific model number I will assume it is either an a2000 or a2020 there is an owners topic on each model read through the topic and it will give you alot of helpful setting with picture adjustments for regular tv. I have two sony sxrds the xbr2 and a2000 and almost never watch sd channels anymore. Also to sharpen the image look into the detail enhancement function and mess around with the drc. Just as as starting point my settings are. iris: Auto 1 Warm2 Contrast:85 Brightness: 52 Color:50 Sharpness:50 Detail Enhancement: Medium
  12. Of the Klipsch speakers I have owned the rf7 has been the most finicky when it comes to the choice of gear used to drive it. The first two recommendations I can give you to improve the sound is first get the deang crossover modification and second add a power amp. I'm not sure how much deang currently charges for the mod maybe others can chime in on that. If your receiver has preamp outputs then you can use it with an external power amp. My advice is to get either a qsc plx or crown xti professional power amplifier. Both can be had on ebay for around 500 and really make the rf7's come alive. The total cost for both will come in under a grand. Don't give up so easy on the rf7's, they are a great speaker ,but require good amplification to really take full advantage of their sound.
  13. Another alternative is blue jean cable they carry belden and canary cable. Great cable and there customer service is excellent. You can either order the cable raw and terminate it yourself or have them do it for a little more. Prices range from 38 cents to 1.05 a foot for raw cable and they have a calculator do determine the cost of terminated cables.
  14. My third pair of klipsch speakers was a pair of 1988 oak khorns. I bought them used off of audiogon when I was 19 from a gentleman in North Carolina and was lucky enough for family that lived there to bring them up to Indiana to me. This was while I was in college and still lived at home. When I turned 21 I moved out and my parents didn't want the speakers setting around so I sold them to a gentleman on this forum. That was 5 years ago and there sound is what I judge all other speakers by. I drove them with a cary spl98 preamp and a bat vk60se tube amp. I tried talking the wife into letting me buy another pair but she said I already had to many speakers and I do not want to part with my full rf7 setup so soon. So it is not a matter of if I will have another pair just when.[]

    RS-7's

Dkp, No problem I figured you where joking , I shouldn't have went into the long explanation I just had some free time on my hands.[] Phil, As far as the rs7's don't get me wrong they are a great speaker. If space and cosmetics are an issue I would not hesitate to use the rs7's for sides. It took me alot of talking and bribing to get the wife to let me go with an all rf7 setup, but she likes the looks of the floor standing speakers better than having speakers hanging on the wall. When I bought my svs pb12+2 and she saw it that was a different story. All in all I think you will be happy with the rs7's. They will do what you want them to especially since you don't listen to multi channel music and they do make a good match with the 7's with movies

    RS-7's

dkp, Thanks for pointing that out. The sounds perceived frequency does change as objects moved towards and away from the listener no matter what speakers are used for front or rears. The transiton itself sounds different with speakers that are matched than ones that are not, more of a seamless transition of frequency than an abrupt one. Basically the sound itself is eminating from a matched source. An example would be a police siren. Say the car is equipped with two sirens that have different sound characteristics. The police car passes you the first time with one siren turned on the whole time. The perceived frequency changes, but the change itself is seamless the source of the sound is constant. On the second pass the police car uses the same siren until he reaches you and then turns the second siren on and then shuts of the other one the source changes. Not only are you going to perceive the frequency change itself as normal, but also a change in the characteristic of the sound since the sources of the original sound where different from in front of you to behind you.

    RS-7's

Phil, I had the rs7's before my full rf7 setup and do not regret getting rid of them. They are alright for movies in a 5.1 setup, but I prefer a direct radiating speaker. As far as multi channel music there is no substitute for a full range speaker. If you have the funds pick up a pair of the maple rf7's to match your fronts and never look back. Another problem with the rs7's is that they are not a direct match with the rf7's. Different tweeter, woofers and crossover points. The bad thing about this at least for me was that the transition of sounds from front to sides never was seamless. Say for instance a plane going from the front of the screen to the side sounded different as it transitioned from the rf7's to the rs7's. When using another pair of rf7's the transition is seamless.
  18. It is just not about making the rf7's scream. The horn of course takes very little power to reach hi decibels. The woofers in the rf7's are another story. As has been shown the rf7's have a dip down to around 2.8 ohms in the bass region. The nice thing about the qsc is that it handles this dip with ease unlike many home audio amps. I to was sceptical about pro audio amps until I actually used one to power my rf7's. It was not that the other amps sounded bad, they would make the rf7's sing, just not with the authority and control the qsc has over the woofers. Like I said it is my opinion and it looks like others on here have came to the same conclusion that have also tried plx amps. As far as trying a crown xti I cannot comment as I haven't heard the crown. Keep in mind the crown xti and qsc use different topologies AB verus 2 teir class H.
  19. As far as the fan sound from 12 feet back at my listening position I can't hear it. The fan in the plx series amp is variable controlled based on the amps operating temperature. Qsc also offers a fan upgrade for 15 bucks that supposedly makes the fan almost completely inaudible at less than a foot away. Glad to see you also like the plx series amps stormin. I will never go back to home audio amps again unless they are tube based. The plx series with the rf7's is a match made in heaven. My next upgrade is to purchase three more for the rest of my rf7's in my home theater.
  20. I would skip the rotel as far as amps are concerned with the rf7's. Not that rotel is bad just there is better for less money amps that mate well with the rf7's. My advice as far as an amp would be go on ebay and pick up a used qsc plx2402. I picked one up last week and hooked it up over the weekend and have never heard my rf7's sound as good as they do know. I have tried various amps with them including rotel, aragon, and bryston. My second favorite is the emotiva audio mps1. It has the same high end sound as the qsc, but lacks the force of the qsc in the low end. I picked mine up of ebay for $410 shipped in mint condition. As far as a preamp I would wait and go with the new onkyo 805, for 1000 it is looking like a good bargain. You can read its specs over on avsforum in the amp section first page of the thread of the new onkyo receiver threads. The only straight preamps with hdmi capable audio decoding are going to set you back more than your total budget. That still leaves you with five hundred left over and you could always pick up an emotiva audio lpa-1 5channel amp for your center and surrounds if you don't want to use the amps built into the onkyo. Others opionons will vary, but this is what I would do. I'm not the first to praise the qsc plx series pro amps with rf7's
  21. Thanks for the compliment. I buffed the lacquer out this weekend and all in all I'm happy with the outcome. It is definetly a step up from the rc7. I'm still waiting on the grill cloth to totally finish off the center channel. I also have to pull the left woofer back out because I forget to clean the polish out of the crack. I also finished building a stand for it to sit on that I have to paint this weekend.
  22. The rc7 is the match for the rf7,it uses the same horn as the rf 7's. It is no longer in production, but try here, audiogon, and ebay and you should be able to find one for around 450 or so.
  23. Thanks for the compliments. I can't complain about the deal all in all I have around $230 in it with the new veneer, paint, miscellaneous, and around 20 hours or more of time. I also gained some knowledge on veneering and finishing with lacquer in the process and have to give thanks to my dad as he is an excellent woodworker and guided me along in the fabricating of the motherboard and put up with me using his shop. As far as the tv it is the sony kdsr 60xbr2. I also have a sony 60a2000 in the bedroom and neither of the two have any sort of green blob or haze at startup or otherwise.
  24. Thanks for the advice on the how to finish up the lacquer. As far as the sound I watched the nin nails concert hd dvd last night and the sound is definetly an improvement over the rc7. A seamless match to the rf7s, imagine using an rf7 as a center and that is exactly what it sounds like as was my beginning goal. The off axis response is just as good or better than the rc7 and the sound is match fuller. As far as the cabinet it is the same one in the first picture at the beginning of the post. Except with a new motorboard and new veneer. The rest of the cabinet as in port location and internal bracing and dampening are exactly the same as it was in the orginal rf7 form. The horns in the two center are the same it is just the picture and the horn in my rf7 center is recessed a little more than the rc7's.
