I went to the Imax in Greenwood on opening weekend (Karasote Theaters). I noticed what seemed to be the exact config that Colter stated. The movie was amazing, but I felt that the sound did not blend as well as I would have expected...I could close my eyes and could point at the mouth of each horn during an explosion. The bullets/breaking glass/etc were very loud in comparrison to the dialoge...I doubt that the dynamic range will be so wide on the home release. All in all a worth experience, if not for the sound but for the sight and envelopement into the plot by the HUGE screen. I either pay $4/ticket at my local 1950's theater to see a movie brand spanking new or $15/ticket for IMAX.

Wow...from listening to my grandpa's 78's out of the victrola to this is amazing! First the music is very lively, and the trumpet/trombone/clairnet sound phenominal together. I am very impressed by the playback system as like I mentioned before the wood horn in the victrola doesn't produce much bass...who knows how much I was missing from the Wabash Cannonball...Finally the recording, as always very well done and I am impressed that an ipod sized device can do such a fine job. My brother is always looking for a new way to record himself at venues...deffinatly a recommendation. Thanks to Dave and Shawn.

So...what kinda person are you? I know that is an abstract question...but do you like to get GREAT DEALS and have the time to wait or do you like to walk into a store and say you want great sound and have someone deliver the speakers, set them up, and hand you the remote? Somewhere between? If so where? Both are equal but it determines what I at least would recommend.

Of course I will let my ears do the deciding but would like to see what input/experience anybody had. He wants about twice as much for the pioneer as the dual, both are in apparently good condition. Hello all, At the pilgrimage I handed out four cd's to as many folks as I could. About 30 in all. I asked every single person to please reply to Dave and let him know your thoughts. I thought this would be a great oppertunity to express your comments, if you haven't already. So let's hear 'em.

Thanks for all the info. I have a niles speaker switcher that I think might be a good solution...turn the switch on after I have the amp turned on. When the thump was the worst, I probably let the amp warm up (first switch on) for 3 min. After HarryO suggested I waited 5+ minutes, I tried that and the "thump" was significantly less and really not even a concern for my speakers. It is now similar to the sounds I get out of my fender amp when I first turn it on. So long as I am not doing anything to hurt the amp now, I feel ok. Now I need to find some time to sit down and get intimate with my amp...lol.

No worries on the transformer. The thud only occours when I turn on the second switch to finally produce sound. When I turn on the first switch, the tubes begin to glow, but the second is where the magic happens.

Left switch is standby, right switch is full power. Previous owner gave instructions, and it works just like my Fender tube amp.

This is the bottom look of the Dynaco. The "pop" i refer to is a low thud, two actually. One immediatly when I turn on the second swtich, and one immediatly after that. It pushs the woofers to a medium excursion for their use. I let them warm up first for longer and turn all the other items on first, the thud whas significantly less noticiable (less scarry for my corns) and (thanks HarryO) What types of sounds should I listen for to determine if/when the power transformer? What would be a good option for replacement? I figure if I can keep an eye out for one now, it may save money in the future. Overall, I am happy with the sound, and the more I listen the more unique it sounds in reference to solid state. Now I just need to get my turntable working again...

Thanks Dean, you are always free to drop by...maybe a comparison between this and the D45 sometime on Jubs...anybody know anything about this configuration? The previous owner says it gets not just 35 w/channel but 40!!! The one thing that suprises me is that these are dead SILENT, not even a little hiss or hum. Does anybody know how to stop the gate current "pop" when I first turn it on?

So I just got my first tube amp...modified Dynaco ST-70. It rocks and the price couldn't be beat. I don't hear the muddy bass out of my Cornwalls that some speak of, and it takes just a touch off of the high end. I wouldn't say it was an amazing difference from the Mac 2125...not an improvement per se. It seems to have a more "spacious" sound and for some reasons it feels more lively. In any case, I know there are lots of mod-s and things you can do to these...I think I will wait a while. Apparently the caps and power supplies have been upgraded which may account for the more authoritative bass. If anybody is looking for a nice intro into tubes I would highly recommend. Also, I feel like a very confuzed 20-something...I have vintage tube and solid state, vinyl, PA amps, a PS3, an XTI 1000, Cornwalls, RF-7's and a cinema sub...here is a view from my perspective

I don't think anybody here is an "expert" in recording technique...but from what I understand Dave would like to get the "average audiophile's perspective" if there is such a thing.

Due to the popular demand of the Mallette Recordings. Dave has made 30 copies of four recordings to be passed out at the pilgrimage. The four recordings are "Stewart Wayne Foster: In Recital", "Dallas Camerata in Concert", "A Peasant Celebration by The Hubbard Chamber Music Ensemble" and "Asylum Street Spankers." One issue I have is determining how to distribute because I am sure more than 30 people will want copies. Dave has specifically asked that a few people get copies and that they get as much playing time in the "listening rooms" as possible. So if anybody has any legitimate ideas please let me know. The main goal of this venture is for Dave to get some constructive criticism on his methods of recording...so if you are interested just to listen and not comment please pass on this opportunity.

I don't know if/what you were refering to...however at the Jazz Kitchen on Friday night there looks to be a pretty good performer by the name of Steve Allee. The PS3 is a nice optinon, plus you get hard drive, blue ray and gaming options along with it.

The meeting is June 20-21. I can hand them out and make sure some klipsch people get them, and I am SURE they will get put in some of the players at klipsch with all of the interest that is had on this forum. If you your email or klipsch allias on the dvd I would imagine it would remind people to respond with comments. I have listened to the first several and am very impressed as are many others. My band recorded an album and although a different genre the sounds on these are much more lively. The single most frustrating thing for me when listening to music is having good/great equipment and not being able to listen to a interesting, well preformed, well recorded piece of material. Often you can find some part of the first two...but when listening to anything out of popular music (and have heard good music live) you can feel a big hole in the music that is realism. I will pm you my info.

You could do it the old fassion way. Send me a DVD of the files burned on it in a data format, I will make as many copies as I can before the Klipsch gathering and pass out to those who want them, from then on it will be a pyramid scheme. I will buy the first bundle of DVD's myself, if more than 50 are wanted then someone else can chip in.
