  1. I have tried positioning the speakers in multiple positions and have heard some change in bass output but it is not enough of a change to end my quest. At higher volume levels the bass does come alive and is quite satisfying. I do listen at the lower volume level for 80-90% of the time.
  2. I was viewing another thread here on the forum that concerned a hum coming from 1 channel of an Emotiva XPA-5 and Emotivas suggestion to use attenuators to solve the issue. That was followed by several members who had used attenuators with positive results. While I do have the XPA-5 I do not have any noise issues. Two of the channel run my Chorus IIs which have freshened crossovers. My issue has been more bass at lower volume levels and not wanting to add a sub as I live in a townhouse and would like to maintain a good relationship with my neighbors. In a previous thread on concerning more bass at a lower volume level, I have experimented with advice from Jackson Bart by not boosting the bass but cutting the highs. This has made a favorable impact. My thought process is that because this is centered at the freq of the treble control, it is certainly not a linear responce. My new thought is to make the Chorus IIs bi-wireable and push the mid/highs and the lows off of differnet channels in the XPA-5. For the mid/high channel I could add an in line attenuator to the input, decreasing the level from 3-6 db. I believe this would achieve a similar effect to the cut I have put on the highs with the change of it covering the entire range covered by the mid/high drivers. It would appear to be a cheap and easy experiment. Has anyone out there tried anything similar to this and if so how were the results? As usual, thanks for the feedback!
  3. I have a Marantz AVR that offers the same ability to bi-wire. I look at it this way. If you do not bi-wire, then you would have 100 watts to the lows and mid/highs. If you do bi-wire, then you still have no more than 100 watts to the lows and mid/highs. The lows take up the juice so isolating them you may actually lower the power available to them based on a typical AVR lower wattage delivered with the more channels used. I did try to bi-wire with my Marantz and I could hear no gain. I lived in an apartment and could not really crank to hear at much higher levels. If more power is desired, I would say go with an external amp.
  4. I removed the bases from my Chorus IIs. I did not care for the look of them. I installed rubber feet and they are doing just fine. If you still have interest in for a base let me know. Mine are in the garage.
  5. DrWho, If there were a multitap autoformer in the network, or if maybe the Bob Crites version included a multitap, do you feel that it could achieve the cooling off of the mids or is it just grasping at straws?
  6. I have been a Klipsch fan for about 10 years now and have owned quite a few of their products. I do enjoy the forums and wish Klipsch and their employees much future sucsess. That being said...... Having lost my Father and Sister to cancer and now my Mother is clinging to life thank to the same disease, I fail to make that comparison. It is not that I am offended or thin skinned, but cancer? Really?
  7. With regaurds to the Chorus II being a little hot in the mid and hi section in regaurd to the base, could you pick a tap of of the autoformer that has less output? If it was that simple I guess several out there would have experimented with it. I recall a visit to GLA51 and he said that could be done with the Heresy. Opinions?
  8. I am considering upgrading to a HDMI capable receiver and am looking at the Onkyo 806. It states that it has Burr-Brown DACs but does not go into much more detail than that. Has anybody purchased an Onkyo with the BB DACs and if so could any audible difference be heard? Thanks
  9. As a Chorus II owner I am interested in this mod also. I took a look at the specs listed and saw that the Chorus II mids turn on at a lower freq than either the HIII or CWIII(600 vs 850/800). Does the K-53-Ti reach that deep? Also I would condsider just the diaphram but I have concerns about that since Klipsch states that the K-53 is 1.75" and the K-61 that is listed for the Chorus is listed as a 1.5". Any feedback?
  10. I currently am running a 3.0 system with Chorus IIs for the mains and an Academy for the center. I have not installed surrounds at this point due to room configuration. For music I go 2 channel. I have very few music DVDs that may be enhanced with the use of surrounds and I enjoy those in 2 channel. That being said, I am a firm believer in the use of a center channel for movies. Where 2 channel is much better that TV audio, it does not allow for any adjustments for dialog enhancements. Some movies sound tracks are mixed with the effects so loud that the dialog gets drowned out or sometimes the dialog is very clear but at the proper volume level for dialog, the effects are minimal. The use of the center channel allows you to dial in your desired affect from movie to movie. I would say that I am 70% music, 30% movies and with that ratio I can certainly justify the use of a center channel. I think even at a 90/10 ratio I would pick up a center. I would shop for a used one and when the right deal came along, pull the trigger!
  11. Very nice look to the Chorus I's. Can you give a detailed description of the start to finish project? Any step by step pics of the project?
  12. Looks like Oppo has all the bases covered with this model. No posting of the MSRP. Hmmmm.
  13. I have received notification that the Oppo 93 is now ready for purchase and am interested. It also appears not to have the same audio output options that the 83 had. Although the 83 could be upgraded or purchased in the 83SE version, the 83 had a dedicated 2 channel out. I do not have an HDMI avr so I would have to used the digital out or the anolog outputs. Do you feel that the digital out would not be audiably different from a could 2 ch dac for the average ear?
  14. Owning the Chorus IIs I can tell you that they do need a good amp to deliver the bass that they are capable of. I push mine with a 200w per channel. At background volume levels it is thin but turn it up some and the bass comes alive. You certainly do not need to go to head banging levels to enjoy the bass although the Chorus II is also comfortable there. I have heard(but no personal experience) that the Chorus II has better mids than the Cornwall. My 2 cents!
  15. I am wondering who out there uses a dedicated cd player for 2 channel vs. a Blu ray/DVD/combo player. I have heard that certain cd players have superior dacs and utilizing the anolog outs provides a noticible audio improvment. I am currently looking for a Blu-ray player and am looking at anything from the PS3 to Oppo for blu-ray and the Emo cd player for audio. I am currently using an older Marantz DVD for everything. Any feedback is appreaciated.
  16. I hope you get to feeling good soon Marshal. Prayer for blessings for you and your family. (Mike from WPB)
  17. Frank, Totally agreed on your educated responce. I just recently came across what you have stated. My church is actually giving out invitation cards for Chistmas services stating "Xmas". Even knowing what you have stated I have a undecided feel about it. For those that it would be new news to and knowing our current alphabet and language, I wonder why the use of Christmas is less and less. I certainly did not try to offend anybody with the question, just provoke a little thought. Thank you for sharing with the forum![]
  18. I like many here can speak of being blessed and would like to say Merry Christmas to all. I would hope we all would have a attitude of gratitude if we were less fortunate. When I think of the people in Hatti or other similar countries, I often think of how I ended up here. I have no answers but I am truely blessed! Ironsave, is Xmas anything like Christmas? [*-)]
  19. I belive that the mids are identical with the exception of the freq the woofer crosses over to the mid. You can check the specs on the discontinued products list. I would believe the different crossover point would not make a hugh impact on the sound of the mid but was probably crossed over due to the woofers specifications. Although I was not crazy about the 20s mid, this forum is filled with many who love them!
  20. I had sampled the 10, 20, and the 30's at a local dealer before the series was put to rest. The 10 has deeper and a punchier qualtiy to its base than the other two. The sonic signiture of the 20 & 30 with the mid is quite different and I would expect most people to prefer it. I owned both the 10s(still due) and the 20s. I preferred the mids of the 20's at low to medium levels but at higher levels the mids were harsh. Although the mids were not as forward on the 10s they are easy to listen to at any voume level. I currently am running Chorus IIs and the mids are not harsh at any level so I get to enjoy the mids. The bass takes some volume before it gets going. Based on history here and if you are happy with the 30s mids, add the sub cut the low end on the 30's.
  21. Last year I attended the Axponia show in Jacksonville where Emotiva was a vendor showing off their gear.(and selling at a discount) I went specifically to see their set up and talk with them about their amps. I was interested in the XPA-2,3 and 5. The gentlemen that I spoke with was Lonnie. I believe he is one of the engineers at Emotiva. I expressed the desire for better power than my avr could put out to bring out the bottom end in my Chorus IIs. I really wanted to pull the trigger on the XPA-2 as I was considering going 2 channel and for the same price as the 5 I could have more power and reserve. Lonnie actually recomended either the 3 or five due to the higher "rail voltage" inside of the 2. He explained that on extremly sensitive speakers such as Klipsch, the 2 had a high chance of hearing a "hiss" at a zero volume level. It would be inaudible at low volumes and up, but the hiss is not because of a defect in their product. Based on that, if a hiss is present at a zero volume level, you might be chasing your tail trying to fix it. Also was explained to me was when the 3 or 5 was used in a 2 channel mode, the amp would produce power numbers well above the "all channels active" rating. I believe the 3 was actually rated at 250w at 8 ohms and 400w at 4 ohms. They do not advertise those specs as those amps are not designed for exclusive 2 channel. I ended up purchasing the XPA-5. I had gone to the show with the cash for the 5 and with the show pricing it was only $150 more than the 3. $150 for 400 more watts in the same chasis size seemed like a no brainer. It did bring out a lot more bottom end on the CIIs and I use a third channel for my academy center.
